Cal Roman Black is one more font from the PKG “Cal” (Calligraphic) group. This time for calligraphic sketches we used a wide brush instead of the iron pen. Instead of minuscule letters, there are Small Caps (which are almost the same weight as capitals). There was an intention to keep the spacing as small as possible, because of that, there is no obvious difference in the stroke thickness of the capitals and the lowercase capital letters. The difference in height is only one-third of the brush-width. Cal Roman Black font is rhythmic, informal, dark and hefty... romantic and strong at the same time (just like Ferdinand). As such, this font is widely used in the typographic creation of shorter and closely packed text forms such as magazine headlines, brochures and book covers, t-shirt designs, logos, posters, movie spots, banners...

This script font was inspired by the type called “Bastarde Flamande”, a much appreciated one in the Duke of Burgundy’s court at the end of 1400s for handwritten books. A book titled Histoire Romaine (Roman history), from Roman author Tite Live, translated in French by Pierre Bersuire, circa 1475, was our main source for drawing the lower case characters and many of the upper case. Each character was written by hand with a quill pen on rough paper so as to look like the originals as much as possible. This font includes “long s”, naturally, as typically medieval , also a few ligatures, final and initial characters but there aren't any abbreviations because the text was written in French rather than Latin. Instructions for use are enclosed in the file and identify how to keyboard these special characters. This font can be used for web-site titles, posters, fliers, ancient looking texts, greeting cards, indeed for many types of presentations as it is a very decorative, elegant and luxurious font. Large type size shows this font at its best.

Ico Phone is a set of 115 symbols depicting anything that happens on the screen of a regular mobile phone. To name a few, there are Bluetooth and sync icons, signal bars, battery statuses, media playback icons, USB symbol, lock icon as well as a wifi signal strength indicator. The style of Ico is inspired by the look of symbols used on the classic monochrome LCD displays. The symbols are monolinear with rounded corners, composed of a smallest possible number of elements. In addition, the rounded style is accompanied by a second style with sharp corners and more detailed drawing. ITC Werkstatt is a result of the combined talents of Alphabet Soup's Paul Crome and Satwinder Sehmi, along with Ilene Strizver and Colin Brignall. It is inspired by the work of Rudolph Koch, the renowned German calligrapher, punchcutter, and type designer of the first third of this century, without being based directly on any of Koch's typefaces. Werkstatt has obvious affinities with the heavy, woodcut look of Koch's popular Neuland, but also with display faces like Wallau and even the light, delicate Koch Antiqua. Brignall began by drawing formal letters with a 55mm cap height, which Sehmi reinterpreted using a pen with a broad-edge nib. “Not an easy process,” says Brignall, “since one of the features of Koch's style is that while it was calligraphic in spirit, most of the time his counter shapes did not bear any resemblance to the external shapes, as they would in normal calligraphy. This meant that Sehmi could not complete a whole character in one go, but had to create the outside and inside shapes separately and then ink in the center of the letters.” The process was repeated, only without entirely filling in the outlines, for the Engraved version. Crome handled the scanning and digitization, maintaining the hand-made feel while creating usable digital outlines. “The collaboration of artisans with particular skills,” says Brignall, “in a modern-day, computer-aided studio environment, seems very much in step with the 'workshop' ethos that Rudolph Koch encouraged and promoted so much.”

I received an envelope that looked like it had a rough trip; the type that was stamped on it had a tired, ragged appearance. Ironically, the haggard envelope woke me up. I got excited and wanted to replicate the look as a font of type." Thompson designed ITC Don't Panic, then stood back and looked at it and decided it cried out for a more agitated companion. ITC Don't Panic gave birth to the positively psychotic offspring, ITC Panic. Both are all-cap designs with alternate characters in the unshift position.
