This funny font was created inspired from a contract of sale for a field prepared by a French notary in the end of the year 1682 (December seventh). We have worked to transform the almost illegible original form into a contemporary usable typeface, but keeping the special "writhed" appearance. Bannock Brae Gothic is a sans serif typeface. It is an original creation of Steve Jackaman (ITF) and was created for the Red Rooster Collection in 1999. The typeface was loosely inspired by a typeface from an old obscure wood type specimen book from the turn of the 20th century. Due to its turn-of-the-century roots, Bannock Brae Gothic has an informal 1920’s art deco look. Phosphate Pro is an all-caps sans serif font family with an inline weight, and was created by Steve Jackaman (ITF) and Ashley Muir in 2010. The original Phosphate was published by International TypeFounders, and the family was based on the ‘Phosphor’ typeface created by Jakob Erbar for Ludwig and Mayer, circa 1922-30. Multicolored Fonts Many years ago, when Xerox Corporation still had its own font department, I came to Los Angeles in 1985 to train the IKARUS program. One day Bill Kienzel, head of the Xerox font department at the time, said we should go to the Hollywood Hills together; he knew people there who were experimenting with multicolored fonts. After a little wandering through the winding streets of the many hills, we reached a somewhat overgrown, simple family house standing under trees. A group of very inspired designers were waiting for us there. They immediately showed us the works they created using photomechanical tricks. They were fascinating. The American colors and the whole look seemed noble and enchanting. The problem was that this process was very difficult to implement and required a lot of effort on individual letters. They dreamed of a colored font that could be used for normal typesetting. We thought back and forth about how to save the individually colored letters in a common font, but soon gave up because we didn't see a technical option. So this idea and the memory of the time in Hollywood lay dormant in the back of my mind for many years, until at the beginning of this year 2023 I received an order to produce an outline typeface and the story came back to me. Suddenly I knew how to solve the problem from back then: if only the areas that should have the same color in all letters were saved in their own separate fonts, they could be colored independently of each other and later placed on top of each other. I implemented this in the 5 fonts that are now available with the 3 variants “Outside”, “Middle” and “Inside”. Together with the background, 4 colors can be combined with each other. This method works in text programs such as Word or InDesign. In Photoshop or Illustrator, the individual surfaces can also be colored by converting them into paths if the additional “Complete” variants (which contain all 3 contours) are used. There is also a “Basic” variant that can be used to achieve special effects such as overlay, bleed, etc. The first 5 fonts in this series are all based on the principle of contouring. Anyone who claims that you don't need any special fonts because they can be created automatically from any font using common programs is wrong or is only telling only half the truth. Anyone who has ever dealt with this knows that many individual adjustments to the design are necessary after contouring. This has happened in the 5 fonts that are now available and have very different styles. The dream from back then has come true. This old classic font has an interesting history, it was originally cut with lowercase by the Bruce Type Foundry in 1865 and listed as Ornamented No. 1514. Around 1903 the Bruce foundry was bought by ATF, in 1933 this font was revived by ATF as Caps only and was given the Gold Rush name but was sometimes called Klondike. A similar version of this font with lowercase and radiused serifs was produced by the James Conner's Sons Type Foundry around 1888. In the past other foundries such as the Carroll foundry, Type Founders of Phoenix and the Los Angeles Type Foundry have produced an all caps version of this font. After examining several printed sources of this font from more recent books I found that the original from Bruce's 1882 book was by far the best in design quality, it was also the only printed source that included the lowercase. New open faced, ornamented and distressed versions have been added to this old classic font, there are also many extended characters for Western, Central and Eastern European countries. The Gold Rush Trail OpenType version has alternate double letter pairs included in the font and will automatically be substituted when used in Adobe CS products or other software that takes advantage of OpenType features. Also available is a spurred version of this font listed under the name Gold Spur.

The idea for this completely new font design with overlapping characters came when Axel Stoltenberg, longtime IKARUS program developer at URW + +, visited a restaurant. As it can be seen quite often , the daily specials were offered handwritten with chalk on a blackboard applying a writing technique never been available before for digital fonts: each character is partly covered by its predecessor creating a three-dimensional effect. The implementation of this unusual notation for digital setting required a lot of programming and testing until all necessary character variants were produced and set properly always using the correct form. In order to achieve this, the OpenType Pro font ThreeDee contains about 12,400 characters and all the necessary OpenType features (GSUB ) for the automatic setting in OTF savvy application programs. The slightly playful basic design for ThreeDee was created by Anna Stoltenberg , the daughter of Axel, specially devised for the innovative representation and support of its special nature. The shadow generated with IKARUS even intensifies the 3D effect. As is well-known, making use of the embedded OTF features, i.e. the automatic access to all the 12,400 character variants , a corresponding text / layout program ( InDesign, Quark Xpress, current Open / LibreOffice or MS Word etc. ) is required. ThreeDee is a headline font that will unveil all its charisma and exceptional quality at appropriate, larger sizes.

Black Drum is a rare revival typewriter face, made digital from analog samples gathered with great care by Coniglio Type. A time and place; type and life. Black Drum is contemporary designer type, made from the struck steel hammers of an Art Deco Period san serif face transferred from a mechanical 1926 custom editor Royal Portable typewriter. Anna Conroy of Type Heritage, LLC, Philadelphia comments on Black Drum and its new place in time today: “Wow! nice lookin’ face Joseph! —Perfect, somewhere between Cable; [Rudolph Koch, 1927] (which was about the first transatlantic telegraph cable) with its raised x-height; and Futura [Paul Renner, 1928]. Yup, it has that great “Monopoly Game” question mark -- and all on a period-piece typewriter! You should have no trouble grafting that sorely needed Euro symbol.” –And he very well did! Zoelander is an experimental geometric font. The distinctive feature of this font is having an irregular x-height. This will look unusual, but if you are looking for something unique and looks different, Zoelander can be an alternative to making an attractive typography. Zoelander comes in two versions, Zoelander Regular and Zoelander TF. Each has a bold and rounded style. Zoelander Regular is a sans serif font with irregular x-height but if you want the same x-height size, the stylistic alternates feature allows you to do it. While Zoelander TF is the development of a regular version where each letter is connected in a line at the baseline. M Young is a humanistic script design characterised by its modern, lively and youngster-like style. M Young incorporates features of the writings of felt-tip writing pen, its entry and finial points of strokes are rounded, parallel without flare. Contrast is low and the text is visible and eye-catching. It is best suited for casual and lively text, illustrations, set upright (non-slanted), non-condensed.

HOKKIEN is an all caps sister to my other font Penang. It was inspired by some old pieces of Art Deco signage I had discovered in Penang Malaysia, The font is available in one weight for now.
