Candida roman was designed by Jakob Erbar and appeared after his death with the typeface foundry Ludwig & Mayer in Frankfurt am Main in 1936. Due to the original designer’s death, the italic was designed by Walter Höhnisch shortly thereafter. In 1945 the roman was reworked, the breadth of the figures was reduced and the strokes made heavier. The bold weight followed in 1951. Later the typeface was expanded with further weights, which have for the most part fallen out of use. Three weights can still be found in catalogues, available as early as 1937 for the Linotype machine. Candida is a modest text font which retains its legibility even in smaller point sizes.

From the pages of the 1939 French lettering book “Modèles de lettres modernes par Georges Léculier” (“Models of Modern Lettering”) comes an attractive and unusual set of initial drop caps made from square letters adorned with multiple vertical lines. Originally designed as white letters on black backgrounds, an additional set with black letters on white backgrounds comprise Deco Drop Caps JNL; available in both regular and oblique versions.

Dinner is a family of novelty fonts in which the characters are formed from spoons, forks, and knives. Dinner-Regular was designed in 1990, one of the earliest fonts in the IngrimayneType collection. It contains a mixture of knives, forks, and spoons and the lower-case letters are smaller versions of the upper-case letters. In 2021 the family was expanded with Dinner-Knives in which all characters are formed by arranging knife shapes, Dinner-Spoons in which the characters are formed from spoon shapes, and Dinner-Forks in which the characters are formed from fork shapes. All three are caps-only but the characters on the lower-case keys are alternate versions of upper-case letters . Dinner is a decorative display family that needs to be used at a large size. The logical place to use it is for food-related items.

Queulat is a hybrid typeface that combines two different styles, reflecting charm, freshness and, especially, a strong personality. The font is inspired by Modern and Grotesk styles. This is a font imitating the stage of outline construction of letters using drawing tools - compass and ruler. It is very geometric (with auxiliary lines, axes, centers of circles, tangents, and conjugation of circles), although the circles are somewhat compressed from four sides. The second style, which plays the role of Bold style, is a hatched version of the Regular style. Sinkwitz Gotisch is a new release of the font of the same name originally designed by Paul Sinkwitz in 1942. The Sinkwitz Gotisch was 1942 by Schriftguss AG Dresden font cast first cast and later supplied by the East German firm VEB Typoart. Paul Sinkwitz (1899-1981) has created them. This font displays not the characteristics of a chunky Gothic, which have influenced the image of national socialism. Paul Sinkwitz was a painter, graphic artist, wood engraver, was interested in religious topics, which he had presented in numerous graphics. But also his interpretation of his Gothic font is modern, without having the font this is ugly. In addition to the GOTISCH he created Roman Uppercase letters, which perfectly harmonize with the lowercase letters. This extra font is called BASTARD. Dwiggins Uncial is based on calligraphy by William Addison Dwiggins that he created for a self-penned short story, which appeared as an insert in the book-arts publication The Dolphin in 1935. This self-described “experimental uncial” lettering features rather unusual treatments of letterforms which combine manuscript calligraphy with modern idiosyncrasies. Dwiggins Extras is a set of decorative extras features 62 stencil and woodblock motifs adapted from abstract and representational Dwiggins designs. Although Dwiggins illustrated a number of books using conventional media, he is best known for his method of illustration that uses a series of hand-cut celluloid stencils or what he called “machine ornaments.” With these stencils Dwiggins (and other designers who use his ornaments) build-up repeated motifs and patterns into abstract designs and/or representational images which have a look that is uniquely Dwiggins’ own. The inspiration source for Pantomime Monogram is an unusual Art Deco design from a vintage embroidery publication which combines both sans-serif and flare serif styles to create a diamond monogram format. This monogram, which evokes visions of it etched into bakelite, was originally intended to adorn handkerchiefs and towels, but it has so many other possibilities. It is one of many monogram designs from the early 1900’s which fall into a two letter format that is either adorned or interwoven with framing styles. Rusticana is a part of the 1990 program Type before Gutenberg, which included the work of twelve contemporary font designers and represented styles from across the ages. Linotype offers a package including all these fonts on its web page, www.fonts.de. Rusticana was designed by Adrian Frutiger and appeared with Linotype in 1993. Its historical roots go back to the Roman Capitalis, the all caps engraved writing of ancient Rome which reached its peak in the first century.
