Macha shares the same DNA as its sibling Anago, but is a completely different species than the former or any of my other sans serifs (Aaux Next, Air, Akagi Pro or Wasabi). It's no-nonsense construction bears many influences from Gill Sans and Frutiger while stubbornly blending my own humanist touch. The focus on developing Macha was just to get to the point with each letterform and discard the rest. Macha takes a little but gives a lot. Let me tell you a secret: This font has got absolutely nothing to do with nougat or France. I just love nougat, and I actually ate some while finishing this font! My wife is a good at making cakes, and lucky for me is that she too adores nougat - that way I often get delicious cakes with nougat :) Well, back to the font - a handmade rounded sans-serif, comic, organic, all-purpose with a playful attitude. Hodgepodge is a confused mixture of letters that somehow work together. While I know this has been done before I create fonts that I need. And I occasionally have found a need for this. And it was not there, so now it is. There is a mixture of light and dark, bold and regular, caps and lower case but not where you would expect them to be. Since this is a headline font you can set the headline and then easily go back and change a letter here or there to get the best-looking combination. Hodgepodge was in the 2011 Typodarium Page-A-Day Calendar on 7-17-2011.

I used to live in the English Lake District, where I worked in an outdoor gear store. I bought a bright red mountain bike and each day, after work, I cycled up the mountain and hurtled down - heavy metal blasting from my MP3 player. Of course, the bike was a regular MTB, so it got some serious damage after a while, but the adrenaline rush was great! Downhill Dive is a great brush font (made with actual brushes and ink on paper - no tablets involved here!). It is an ode to that wonderful time spent in England. M Marker is a humanistic script design characterised by its italic, modern, box marker pen-like style. M Marker incorporates features of carton box marker pen, its strokes beginning and ending are rough, parallel without flare. Contrast of strokes is high. Its extra bold stems (豎) make it suitable for large display text to catch attention. Crossbars (橫) and stems (豎) are straight but slanted while angles (折) are smooth and well rounded. Dots (點), ticks (剔), hooks (勾) and downstrokes (撇、捺) are irregular, smooth and long to create softness, liveliness. The Daytona™ typeface family grew out of a desire to provide improved fonts for use in televised sporting events. Jim Wasco drew the design as sturdy squared letters based on humanist shapes and proportions. Letters were kept narrow for economy of space, and inter-character spacing was established for easy reading. While televised sporting events may have initially been his target, the design considerations he incorporated into the Daytona family also enabled it to perform well in a variety of other video and on screen environments. Daytona Variables are font files which are featuring two width axes and have a preset instance from Thin to Fat.

Dequindre is a monolinear blackletter typeface, and was drawn as if grade school handwriting practice sheets came in a blackletter variety. Dropping the thin/thick calligraphic contrast of traditional blackletter glyph construction and instead sticking to the bare skeleton of the typeface, Dequindre manages to bring forth a delicate, contemporary aesthetic that plays off of a core blackletter form. Overall portrayed with a softer, more friendly take on the angular, severe forms of 16th century blackletter style, and through pulling some of the curvier, smoother stroke qualities of Antiqua while still maintaining the overall construction and flourish of Fraktur, Dequindre sits in a unique space in the pantheon of blackletter typefaces.

Someone recently pointed out that May and June are the wedding season months, and that while we have some excellent fonts for non-traditional weddings (celtic and renaissance styles work well), we don't have a straightforward, elegant engraver style font. That's the kind of shortcoming we can remedy, hence our Belphebe font, which is in the tradition of popular wedding invitation fonts like Rook, but has some antique characteristics which are in the Scriptorium tradition. The kerning on this font was a real challenge, because we wanted all the characters to fit together for a flowing, hand-lettered look, but the results are worth it.

Arthur Baker's display script Sassafras, designed in 1995, is based on the natural inline effect created when writing with a split-metal nibbed pen. Black and white are nicely balanced, giving this calligraphic face a remarkably smooth appearance. The regular and italic versions of Sassafras include two alternate faces: one with long, tall ascenders and regular-length descenders, and one with shortened ascenders and descenders that allow it to fit where its companion might not. In both, the ascenders increase in width as they move upward, while the descenders taper to a fine point. This variety of form makes Sassafras a very flexible choice for display work.
