Graphic designers of any nationality and background know very well that the art of composing titles correctly is not easy, Especially when it comes to periodical publications where there is need for both flexibility and graphic coherence. Katlynne is unpredictable. Katlynne is erratic. Katlynne is beautiful. Katlynne is an alternating contrast, sans serif type family. Arbitrarily separating the characters into ‘rounder’ and ‘straighter’ letterforms to determine what contrast each glyph will take. Katlynne is inspired by the observations made while watching the inexperienced use of broad tip pens. I found how and when individuals rotated their pen gave a visually intrusive, if not also pleasantly conspicuous effect. Often, the pen would naturally rotate horizontally (vertical contrast) on the rounder letterforms, and vertically (reverse contrast) on the straighter ones. This is more or less the formula Katlynne adopts as the contrast changes throughout the styles. Katlynne’s severity of contrast varies from ‘Negative Three’ to ‘Positive Three’ in four weights. With a central style ‘Book’ being the sensible, low contrast font in the family. Within the family there are four weights with 7 contrast styles, with complimenting true italics. Giving a total of 56 fonts! Katlynne's array of options works for creating stylistic similitude within layouts, where conspicuous title faces are needed with a cohesive text face to compliment. Alone, the ends of the contrast spectrum (Negative and Positive Three) create striking word forms for advertising, packaging and anywhere else a loud voice is needed.

Buntisland (we wonder where we came up with that name from... another subconscious whim), is Greater Albion Typefounders blackletter release for Christmas 2016. The family consists of four typefaces- regular, weathered, shaded and shadowed, and has it's origin in a design challenge which came up in conversation, as all the best ones do. In this case it was 'design a legible all capitals black letter...' Challenge accepted and completed!

Rounded, two was designed with a simple idea in mind: the basis for the majority of the characters is a perfect circle. That circle is then intersected and cropped to make unique, modern and stylish letterforms. Rounded, two is an improved version of my initial experimentation. The font looks good at all sizes, but particularly for large displays where the elegant simplicity of each character can be appreciated.

Santini began as an experiment in mixing historical art deco, art nouveau, arts and crafts, and to a lesser extent Bauhaus sources. Surprised at the pleasant outcome of the experiment, we expanded it to become three weights, and included some alternates within the fonts themselves. Santini is an excellent choice for art- and architecture-related design, where the message needs to be conveyed in a clear yet sturdy and modern fashion.

Gillies Gothic font was originally designed by William S. Gillies for Bauer'sche Schriftgiesserei. The Extra Bold Weight was designed by Freda Sack at Letraset Design Studio and later the Extra Bold Shaded was designed by Phillip Kelly at Letraset. The extravagant capitals should be used as initials with the more reserved lowercase, and the lowercase should be set closely, overlapping where possible, to reproduce the look of true handwriting.

Originally designed for American Type Founders, Goudy drew inspiration from the classical old style faces for Goudy Old Style. Round characters have a strong diagonal stress, ascenders are fairly long but descenders are very short. Goudy bold was introduced in 1920; this was designed by Morris Fuller Benton. This typeface has been particularly popular in America where it is extensively used in advertising, book jackets, for labels and packaging.

The Submarine family is based on a custom designed typeface for website navigation and headlining purposes, hence its geometric structure. In contrast to most other typefaces, where increase of boldness of the lighter weights expands externally in the width, the Submarine heavier weights expand internally, leaving the length of words and texts pretty much the same. The open structure of the lighter weights make it reasonable text face as well.

A Qilin is a mythical hooved creature, looking a bit like a cow with a lion's head, reptilian scales and deer antlers. The Qilin features in Chinese lore, where it is often associated with good luck and prosperity. Qilin font is a rather messy typeface, created with a steel pen and Chinese ink. It might not be a classy font, but it will bring the buyer good luck! ;-)

This font family is simplified Arabic which was inspired from the modern Naskh style, where the reverse contrast is low and the counter forms are open. The original design is from the Lisboa Sans typeface (Latin), published on 2005 and after some years, this multi-script family is the compromise and balance between these two different scripts. This typeface contains characters for setting Arabic, Persian and Urdu languages.
