This variation in the Tangential series (see also the Standard & Rounded families) continues with the angles that give the typeface its name, however a semi-serif is applied wherever appropriate to create a more open, softer variant. The Tangential style I envisaged for the family is complemented by the prominent use of negative space throughout, most apparent on the drop shaped ‘o’ which is a key feature of the typeface and a letterform I'm particularly pleased with. Tiemann Antiqua was designed by Walter Tiemann in 1923 and appeared with the Klingspor font foundry. This is not a stencil font. At least it isn't intended to be. The foundation for the entire font comes from a progression in experimental rules on stroke intersections (pinching, separating) while maintaining proportions and elements from a more conventional typeface. More latitude was given to the unicase "Fat" face but still retains the overall flavor of the original. The end result is a typeface that's hard to categorize as any one personality. Most likely a good candidate for logo, display, or headline work, the applications for Encoder are yet undeciphered.

Elida JNL was modeled from an image of some wood type for sale online. Although the type design most likely has its roots in the classic Bodoni, there were a few characters in the original wood type that had a bit of a square or block shape to them. Those characters were modified in order to keep with the overall roundness of the other characters. The name Elida JNL comes from a small town in New Mexico. The hand-lettered title, cast and crew credits for 1943's "Presenting Lily Mars" (starring Judy Garland and Van Heflin) inspired Pocatello JNL, but the name of this typeface has another Judy Garland connection. And since I completed this easy-recipe-inspired handmade font while suffering from Corona, I thought I'd name it Overly Sweet. And...well. because, the font is somewhat overly sweet (without being over the top sweet!)
