BMX Radical is inspired by the titles of the cult 1980s BMX movie "Rad". The characters R, A and D were designed after this, with the rest of the character set being completely made up. The font is uppercase only, but with two different alphabets. In OpenType-capable applications, engaging contextual alternates will make the alphabets automatically switch between each other, meaning double letter combinations always contain two different glyphs to give the text a much more handmade feel. It is a very versatile brush font. It can look cheesy and retro in bright colors with outlines or gritty and modern in more muted palettes.

We have been in lockdown for a long time now. The schools were also closed, meaning my kids had to stay at home. This week the schools reopened (not a day too soon!), which means my kids can play with their friends again and learn something too! My wife and I pack their lunchboxes every day and always add some fruit for snack time. That fruity snack inspired me to create this rather messy font! Fruity Snack is a handmade display font. It looks wobbly, comes with awkward angles and rough bits. It also comes with extensive language support (including Vietnamese) and 2 sets of alternates for the lower case letters.

Günther Zainer, (or Zeyner or Zeiner), was the first printer to operate in the city of Augsburg. He was active from 1468 to his death in 1478. In that single decade he was responsible for printing 80 works. Most of these editions were for the clergy but he also printed the first Calendar and large-scale illustrated book intended for the wider public. This font is based on one of his more interesting and peculiar fonts. And it has been enlarged to include over a 1,000 defined glyphs for modern use and also for historical purposes many glyphs recommended by the Medieval Unicode Font Initiative organization have also been included.

Banco was the first typeface work of French designer Roger Excoffon and was released in 1952. The strong forms look as though they were rolled out of sheet metal and feature upright, tapering strokes. The slight slant, the varying heights of stroke ends, and the relationships between line and curve give Banco font its sense of liveliness and dynamism. Excoffon did not design a matching lower case alphabet for his capitals, but this was accomplished later by Phill Grimshaw, who also designed the light weight. He deliberately 'underdesigned' the lower case forms, producing a more reserved alphabet based on the design ideas of the original.

Hanseat is a profonts typeface family by Ralph M. Unger, heavily inspired by Germany’s official DIN 1451 Engschrift. Originally, the German DIN (Deutsches Institut für Normung / German Committee for Industrial Standardization) typefaces were taken as the standard traffic fonts for street signs and house numbers. During the 1980s, the DIN fonts became digitally available for sign making systems, initially again primarily for traffic sign purposes. However, later on, the DIN fonts became also popular in the world of designers and art directors. Hanseat is a modern, contemporary interpretation of the DIN fonts, responding to the ever growing demand for such typeface designs reflecting the spirit of the industrial area.

RyuGothic Family is a humanistic interpretation of the Hangul Gothic style. It delivers messages in a soft, calm tone that does not overpower. The narrow counter design of consonants in Hangul and the narrow counter of the Latin lowercase letters are connected to create a sense of structural unity between the two sets of characters. This enables you to read long lines and works well in a variety of media and situations. The place for a family to be entertained by comedians, dancers, acrobats, animal acts, singers and just about any other acts that fit the bill at the time was the vaudeville theater. Prior to radio becoming the major source of entertainment for the American public, popular songs were introduced on the stages of these entertainment venues. One such song from 1916 with a World War I patriotic sentiment was "A Yankee Doodle Boy Is Good Enough for Me". The sheet music featured the title hand lettered in Art Nouveau style. This became the design source for Vaudevillian JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions.

Old Labels JNL was inspired by the red and white gummed labels that were used for shipping parcels long before self-adhesive materials and desktop publishing rendered the older labels obsolete. The fifty-two glyphs include a generous supply of phrases such as ‘Air Mail’, ‘Do Not Bend’, ‘Rush’, etc. along with a number of blank label backgrounds and decorative frames. “Greuceanu” is the the name of a brave romanian fairy tale character and his mission was to eliberate de Sun and the Moon that were stolen by some Dragon like creatures that in romanian folklore they are called “ Zmei”. It inspired me to create this decorative uppercase display typeface with strong influences from old cyrillic writing and also a touch of fun and geometrical construction explorations. Besides Extended Latin Support it includes also Cyrillic and Greek alphabets as you already can expect from most of DePlictis Types releases. Bickley Script was designed by Alan Meeks in 1986 and is based on the handwriting forms popular at the end of the 19th century. The flowery capitals contrast beautifully with the delicate and reserved lower case letters, fit perfectly together and enhance the handwritten character of the font. Bickley Script looks as though it were written with a fine tipped pen and has an elegant, nostalgic charm. The font is best for headlines as well as short to middle length texts and should be set in point sizes of 14 or larger, and Bickley Script's capitals can also be used as initials with other alphabets.

Project D is the fourth typeface released by DM Founts. It was inspired by the infamous graffiti atop the former Heygate Estate in South London, which I had passed by numerous times on the overground train years ago. Heygate Estate has since been replaced by soulless luxury flats, as per the gentrification agenda. The letters don't entirely match the graffiti as they were created from memory, but I thought such a profound statement should be honoured. Project D is best used for impact at large sizes, although it should scale well. Use it for computer interfaces, retro headings and anything involving defiance, espionage, infiltration and spy games.

Havel is an updated interpretation of a Czech type design from the 1930s. It is powerful and very condensed. At a quick glance you might find kinship with other condensed typefaces of the same period, like Spire (Sol Hess, 1937), Onyx (Gerry Powell for ATF, 1937) or Quirinus Bold (Alessandro Butti, 1939). But Havel has its very own look, rooted in the rapidly disappearing "Eastern European Type", a typographical tradition where poster and packaging design were the highlights. Torbjörn Olsson has revived this classical Czech beauty, and the Open Type version, Havel Pro, can also be used for Czech, Hungarian, Polish, Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian.

This font takes its name and the overall shape from modern bentwood furniture, namely Scandinavian designs since the 1940s. The curved corners of the letterforms are practically hyperbolic, to convey the tension and strength of the bent plywood. These curves are meant to appear more dynamic than circular or elliptical segments of traditional sans serif fonts. The letterforms are simplified, without extra corners, stems, connections or hooks, yet remain legible at any size. Now at version 2, Bentwood contains Central/Eastern European, Baltic and Turkish character sets and more ligatures with Open Type functionality. Some minor corrections were made to letter shapes and positions, as well as to kerning and spacing.

In the early years of the 20th Century, singer-dancer-actor-composer-playwright George M. Cohan was known as "The Man Who Owned Broadway". In 1904, Cohan was enjoying success with his latest creation, "Little Johnny Jones". Cohan gave America what would become a number of iconic songs, and both he and his compositions were immortalized in the 1942 biographical film "Yankee Doodle Dandy" starring James Cagney. The Art Nouveau-influenced hand lettering of the title on the cover of the sheet music for "The Yankee Doodle Boy" was the model for its namesake digital typeface design and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

For many decades, the fashion magazine “Vogue” featured superbly illustrated covers before photography became more commonplace. During the 1930s and 1940s those illustrations were accompanied by many creative styles of hand lettering for its monthly issues. The January, 1930 cover had the magazine’s name lettered in an Art Deco geometric monoline, which became the inspiration for Vagary JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. A vagary [in a simple sense] is when something or someone changes in an erratic or unexpected way (as the wind’s direction or in a person’s mood or whim)… and thus seemed the fitting name for this type style.

Kashigata Stencils JNL is a collection of 52 beautiful Japanese stencil images used for decorating sugar cakes to honor deceased family members with the crest of that family. Re-drawn from images of some vintage stencils spotted at an online craft and collector's site, these wonderful designs were created during the Showa Period of Japan's history and bring the charm of the Far East to your creative projects. According to Wikipedia, The Showa period (literally "period of enlightened peace/harmony"), or Showa era, is the period of Japanese history corresponding to the reign of the Showa Emperor, Hirohito, from December 25, 1926, through January 7, 1989.

Winter Garden JNL was modeled from the eccentric sans serif hand lettering with varying line widths found on the sheet music of 1917's "When the Girl You'd Give the World to Win Gives Her Heart to You". (It seems that sheet music from the early 1900s often had song titles that were more than just a few choice words. This particular ditty's title took up fourteen words to make its point.) The font is available in regular and oblique versions and gets its name from both the famed theater in New York and the city located 14 miles West of downtown Orlando, Florida.

On first impression, Venis is a traditional text typeface: clean, simple and elegant with nice contrast. On closer inspection, you'll notice nuances that add charm and wonder, much like its name (rhymes with "tennis"). Is this font a serif or sans serif? Hmmmm, it never really commits. Further design liberties were taken to create unique qualities in its characters, which are best exemplified by the signature lowercase y. This font family is optimized for print, and has worked beautifully for letterpress projects including wedding invitations and birth announcements. Venis will also work well in newsletters, brochures, proposals, magazines, books, and other text-heavy paper products, bringing creative elegance to your designs.

At times, one source of inspiration can generate more than one idea. This was the case with the 1918 sheet music for the song "You're Still an Old Sweetheart of Mine". The cover displays the title in a hand lettered narrow Art Nouveau Sans serif style. A number of characters were revised and the overall font was compressed by 25% to create a whole new look and feel. The end result became Slim Nouveau JNL. This was the same material used to originally model Easy Money JNL, which is truer to the original lettering design. The font is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Legestue is danish and means playroom. But perhaps that translation is too direct. Legestue is a place where you can come with your kids and play with other kids. Kinda like a kindergarten, but in much smaller scale. I attended a Legestue when my kids were like 2 years old. But that's a looong time ago! I like the idea of just dropping by and see who's playing and who's around. And the same goes for this font - each letter is off and different, and quite playful. Also, the letters has a crunchy outline, which made me think of some of the cookies I ate at the Legestue :)

If one were to be visiting Dania Beach in South Florida, they would find on the West side of US 1 just North of Sheridan Street a Bar-B-Q joint located smack dab between a McDonald’s and an all-you-can-eat buffet that took over a closed down Pizza Hut. Charlie’s BarBQ JNL is Jeff Levine’s homage to some great Texas Bar-B-Q - cooked by a Cuban immigrant - served in South Florida... A true American success story, but with a sad ending. Charlie's closed because the landlord wanted the property. for his own use. Charlie now resides in Leon, Nicaragua and runs some successful business ventures there.

The IronOn fonts are a collection of geometric display faces that were inspired by the iron-on t-shirt lettering of the 70s. The original source came from a submitted sample to the MyFonts "What the Font" forums, and while it had similarities to ITC Machine, it could not be tied to any existing typeface. And so, this new geometric sans family was born, exhibiting a more open letterstyle with several weights and widths, with a complete capital and lowercase set, no allcaps set here. Joseph Kaspar Sattler, one of the great German art nouveau artists created these nice initials in 1897 for the famous royal monumental book project Die Nibelunge for the Reichsdruckerei Berlin. Only 200 exclusive signed masterpieces were printed in four years from 1900 till 1904. Joseph Sattler was the art director, typographer and designer in one person. The Reichsdruckerei showed samples of the unfinished work in 1900 at the world exhibition in Paris to advertise the high craftsmanship of the German presses. What a nice tranquil feeling you get from the wide forms of this font. The air of spontaneity was the most important thing about developing Rifleman. The forms were carefully and slowly constructed and then loosely traced with a paintbrush. Maybe the original drawings will become a font someday but i like to think that they won't for some reason. Surprisingly Rifleman is left to only the bare essential elements, anything that wasn't necessary was left out or removed. The goal was to make it as lightweight as possible to make up for the intricate detail. Rifleman is a surprisingly lightweight font offering lends itself to speedy typesetting!

Designed at Polygraphmash type design bureau in 1951-52 by Vera Chiminova, Isay Slutsker, et al. Based on Candida of Ludwig&Mayer, 1936, by Jakob Erbar. This typeface has the characteristics of slab-serif, but serifs are much thinner. The capitals are of generous width, x-height is large. Good legibility in small sizes makes this typeface useful in newspaper and magazine typography, while strong character shapes provide for pleasant display lines. The digital version in 3 weights was designed at Polygraphmash by Alexander Tarbeev in 1988. Years before the "Jet Age", and way before computers and satellite television turned us into jaded "armchair travelers", the ocean voyage aboard giant steamships to distant ports of call beckoned many to travel the Seven Seas. Far away lands had a magic and mysticism to them, for few Americans knew anything about those places unless they read about them in books or saw travelogs at their local theaters. Many songs were written with themes of romantic South Seas travel, and one vintage piece in particular entitled "Down Where the Trade Winds Blow" offered up the hand lettering which served as a model for Sea Cruise JNL.

Shock and Awe is a family of two display typefaces drawn up from lettering that has been at the centre of major historical events. Enola Gay is based upon nose art from the B-29 Superfortress bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb, on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, in 1945. Tomahawk is based upon the fuselage lettering of the original (then) General Dynamics manufactured Tomahawk cruise missile. Tomahawk missiles were introduced into military service in the 1970s and have been deployed by US and UK 'coalition' forces in a number of conflicts, including both the 1991 Gulf War and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.
