Mexican printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada (1851-1913) created a massive variety of material—broadsheets, cards, advertisements, posters, etc.—which largely represented a defense of the common man and a manifestation of the horrible and gruesome events of the day. Posada often cut his own lettering that looked like more decorative versions of Gothic wood types. His most notable imagery comes from his Calaveras celebrating the Day of the Dead. Calaveras often represent effigies of living people depicted as skeletons going about their daily activities. These are often humorous and playful in a way that helps bridge this world with the beyond. This font family contains two small caps style fonts and one Extras font containing 60 images.

The roots of this font go back to 1967. A book title in trendy letters was created in a completely ingenuous way as a film prop for a Super 8 fun film. I drew the letters with felt-tip pen and poster paint without thinking too much about it. It wasn't until a good 50 years later that I realized, this was a first awkward typeface draft. The flower power vibe was captured here subconsciously. In 2019 I completed the few glyphs and created variants that I would not have thought of at the time.

Four fonts — found on a map of America, created by the spanish cartographer Diego Gutiérrez and the dutch engraver Hieronymus Cock anno 1562. From the start of the digitization by Sebastian Nagel in 2005, Tierra Nueva has gone a long way. On its journey of exploration it has grown to four members of a family (regular, bold, italic and script) with an overall count of almost 3.700 characters for different languages and purposes, extensively featured with useful typographic options. It has this futuristic and intergalactic look, but at the same time the handmade details are pointing in a more grafitti and comic way. I will let you decide where to go with Autoray! Swedish Runes Swedish Runes is a way to write Swedish with medieval runes devised by Sven Salvenson. Proto-Norse was written with Elder Futhark runes, and viking age runes were in Younger Futhark (an adaptation of Elder Futhark). Then early Old Norse was written in medieval runes (an adaption of Younger Futhark). Sven decided to carry on that tradition and adapt the medieval runic alphabet for modern Swedish. This family is inspired by the small hands used in the 1700’s 1800’s to write messages carried by carrier pigeons, also named “homers”, before the use of photography and microfilms in the same way. So, it is a “small eye” or "small x-height" font. It is enriched with numerous alternates and ligatures, as to look like a various real and written manual. The standard characters set is completed with accented or specific characters for Western (Including Celtic) and Central Europe, Baltic, Eastern Europe and Turkish.

Syrup is a friendly, subtly rounded type family combining sans and script styles. It’s aesthetic roots are in the sign painting of the 1950’s but the execution is distinctly modern. The different styles are designed to work well together so you can have multiple levels of typography all with the same feeling and aesthetic. Try combining the styles in different ways for maximum impact. All styles are packed with Opentype features to enable flexible customisation of your design and the font is especially well suited for branding and packaging typography.

One of the most successful new ornament fonts is CalligraphiaLatina. It is part of a trend that's been quite popular lately: messed-up calligraphy. You can dirty up (or "deconstruct") gracious classic-looking curves in many ways: using a variety of software filters; by superimposition; or even by hand. Brazilian designer Paulo W has his own method, possibly involving a scanner and some auto-tracing. This is our first font, based on Peter's own personal way of writing uncials, The rounded letters of the fourth to eighth centuries. The characters in the caps position are more closely related to the classical Roman forms, and the lowercase position has letters that are the more rounded, medieval forms, at the same size, so they can be freely mixed, for a hand lettered appearance. This typeface is currently used for the titles in the TNT Television show "the Librarians". It was originally designed in 1998, and is now available in Open Type Format.

Innocent until proven otherwise, Olivita is a heavyweight interpretation of the Typewriter genre. Typewriter fonts have captivated generations of designers and found its way into infinite applications, including Milton Glaser’s classic I heart NY logo. Olivita is a fat-face take on the same idea. There’s a lot to negotiate in making type as bold as possible, with shapes having to contort and distort in order to make a cohesive whole. The x-height is tall yet ascenders and descenders are long. Super size it and see the rich, creamy texture come forward.

Corso is a clean condensed sans serif font family. It comes in upright, slanted and italic, in six weights each. It includes useful typographic features such as fractions, ligatures and case sensitive forms. Also included are double- or single-storey versions of a and g, you can switch via stylistic OpenType sets. Other letters with alternative forms accessible the same way are ß and ampersand. Corso works especially great for larger size uses such as signage, headlines or posters. But that doesn’t mean that it isn’t also useable for short texts.

Vow is an incredibly stylised font, strutting its stuff on the typography catwalk. Vow does everything to excess, even when cutting down: where it’s curvy, it’s very curvy, but where it’s thin, it’s thin. Vow’s regular weight has a certain boldness at text size, but its ultra-thin alternative is much better used at larger sizes, managing to take up very little space even when scaled up. Using a mix of the two creates a subtle emphasis, especially when coloured, which helps to create stunning messages in elegant ways.

Donna Lena is a chancery cursive, feminine in character. Elegant and timeless, this font marks the return of the classical canons of the Renaissance thanks to its open forms and the clear-cut ends, while recalls the graceful ways and the intense gaze of the ladies that populate the Florentine paintings in the sixteenth century. Donna Lena is soft and slightly inclined, with a fast ductus and marked contrasts in thickness to highlight the gesture. Different stylistic variations and ligatures are considered to make the most of the many OpenType features.

Büro Destruct’s «BDR mono» typeface has a long tradition in the font library of typedifferent. Initially designed by Lopetz as a single weight, monospaced Mac PostScript Type 1 font way back in 1999, it got a first update as a little family with light, regular and bold weights, plus an extended glyphs set in Opentype format during 2006. With this 2021 update the typeface received a second rounded family and a complete glyphs set with all needed characters used in the north, east, south and west of Europe. The «BDR mono 2021» serves great in signage, routing people, architecture, technical plans, manuals, or even science and fiction related communications.
