Agatized Formal is a chunky stencil typeface with slightly condensed letterforms and tight spacing. Designed primarily for display use, it’s ideal for posters, logos, advertising, book cover designs or small chunks of text such as pull-out quotes. It exudes authority without taking itself seriously, like a plump jolly uncle in charge of a brass band. Agatized Formal is a big, bold typeface with a charismatic presence that commands attention – in a friendly way, of course. Since 2010 I started my research and experimentation in layered fonts, and I immediately understood that the future of creative graphic fonts is precisely the exploration of it. Over the years I have tried different expressions on the use of the layered system ... but I realized that my propensity to use colors in the font led me to the creation of BILYA. The real creative cue of BILYA is the wonderful childhood memories where nostalgia for them generated the creation of it, which I dedicate to all lovers of glass marbles classic game and beyond. Varese Outlined is the perfect font for giving content a retro, dimensional, and playful feel. Use it for headlines or short body text for an optimistic or nostalgic tone. It comes in two variations, outlined and shadow. It has standard uncolored and colored options. Please see the slides to know what each color font is named. This geometric and modular typeface was inspired by Italian posters of the 1920s and 1930s. Its design playfully explores the boundaries between unity and variety. The blocky characteristics lend it well to tightly composed text either horizontally or vertically. The lowercase is similar in form to the uppercase, yet many of the lowercase letters have interior spaces (counterforms). It comes with standard ligatures; ff, fi, fl, ffl and three alternate glyphs for number 1. The color fonts in Varese Outlined are vector-based and in the fully scalable SVG OpenType format. The problem with scripts in general, and brush scripts in particular, is that the majority of them cannot be set in all-caps words or sentences. Broken letters[1] (German: gebrochene Schrift literally "broken writing"; English: blackletter) or Gothic letters, also known as German letters, are the typeface used in Europe West from the 12th century to the 17th century. Meanwhile, Danish spoke it until 1875 and German, Estonian and Latvian spoke it well into the 20th century. Fracture is one of the broken typefaces that is often considered to represent the entire broken typeface. Broken letters are sometimes also called Old English, but not in the Old English or Anglo-Saxon sense that was born centuries earlier. This group of letters is so named because it contains Latin letters that have breaks in the curvature of the letters, either in part or in whole designs. The fracture arises from a sudden dip when writing certain parts of the letter. In contrast, letters with perfect, unbroken curves, such as Antikua, are created from smooth, flowing writing movements. Grogoth is a font inspired by the Blackletter typeface, made with a modern impression but still looks strong and unique. In addition, Young Best font is also supported with multilingual characters that can be used in several international languages. Then I looked it up on Wikipedia and what do you know, it is of latin descent. »Ars Gratia Artis« which means »art for arts sake« or in French »l’art pour l’art«, a perfect font name. If I would cut off the »s« as well it would mean disambiguation and that in turn is, what I just did here. It can be used both on Windows and MacOS based computers. The history of "Tichy" typeface began many years ago with a project for logotype design for a small company. It was a kind of designer's game to try making some letters just using one single module. Development of the other glyphs of the latin alphabet was for many years a mandatory exercise for the young colleagues in our studio. Suddenly we realized that this project matured and creation of a new typeface started.

The earliest known inscriptions in the Phoenician alphabet come from Byblos and date back to 1000 BC. The Phoenician alphabet was perhaps the first alphabetic script to be widely-used - the Phoenicians traded around the Mediterraean and beyond, and set up cities and colonies in parts of southern Europe and North Africa - and the origins of most alphabetic writing systems can be traced back to the Phoenician alphabet, including Greek, Etruscan, Latin, Arabic and Hebrew, as well as the scripts of India and East Asia. Notable features Type of writing system: abjad / consonant alphabet with no vowel indication Writing direction: right to left in hortizontal lines. Sometimes boustrophedon. Script family: Proto-Sinaitic, Phoenician Number of letters: 22 - there was considerable variation in their forms in different regions and at different times. The names of the letters are acrophonic, and their names and shapes can be ultimately traced back to Egyptian Hieroglyphs. For example, the name of the first letter, 'aleph, means ox and developed from a picture of an ox's head. Some of the letter names were changed by the Phoenicians, including gimel, which meant camel in Phoenician, but was originally a picture of a throwing stick (giml).

Remastered in 2019. Wasabi is the re-imagining of my very first release, Iru. Like Iru, Wasabi was heavily influenced by the monument lettering style, Vermarco. The simple, geometric forms allowed for small lettering sizes to be sandblasted cleanly and has been a monument lettering workhorse for decades… the only issue centered around the lack of a lowercase or any other letters beyond the 26 uppercase glyphs and the numerals. Wasabi solves this with the same simple, efficient line reminiscent of the old Vermarco while bringing it into the 21st century. Visual and optical incongruities of the original uppercase were replaced with new interpretations for the capital letters, a new lowercase and small caps were​ produced and the original single weight alphabet was replaced with six new weights. Wasabi has several ‘lighter’ weights primarily because the thin lines and simple transitions produce very elegant relationships… and I wanted to make sure those relationships could be explored regardless of the scale of letter. Stylistic Alternates show up through the upper, lowercase and small cap glyphs that attempt to simplify these shapes even more when the opportunity arises. Wasabi is as much a utilitarian typeface as it is a headline face. This realization led to the decision to produce a companion Condensed version shortly after the initial regular weights were developed and tested; so, try them all!

While I was in Boston in 2014, I visited the Museum of Fine Arts and to my good fortune there was an exhibit of etchings by Rembrandt, one of my favorite artists. As to be expected, many were simply gorgeous, but one especially caught my eye. It was an etching of a priest (Jan Cornelis Sylvius, Preacher) with an extensive amount of writing in Latin. While I'm not certain that it was Rembrandt's own hand, the script was beautiful and I was fascinated by it because it had to be written on the etching plate in reverse. I snapped a few photos using my phone and later found other editions on line. I was so taken by the script that it begged me to create a modern typeface from it. The result is Saskya, named after Rembrandt's wife Saskia. There were many ligatures and glyph variants in the print, of which I captured many of them and made them accessible via OpenType features. The complete alphabet was not present in the sample, however, I discovered some other source material to sensitively fill in those gaps, with a remaining last few that I created myself. A truly romantic hand, Saskya will work well for invitations of many sorts, and when you're looking for that 'old thyme' scripty feeling in your graphics.

In 1968, Adrian Frutiger was commissioned to develop a sign and directional system for the new Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris. Though everyone thought he would want to use his successful Univers font family, Frutiger decided instead to make a new sans serif typeface that would be suitable for the specific legibility requirements of airport signage: easy recognition from the distances and angles of driving and walking. The resulting font was in accord with the modern architecture of the airport. In 1976, he expanded and completed the family for D. Stempel AG in conjunction with Linotype, and it was named Frutiger. The Frutiger™ family is neither strictly geometric nor humanistic in construction; its forms are designed so that each individual character is quickly and easily recognized. Such distinctness makes it good for signage and display work. Although it was originally intended for the large scale of an airport, the full family has a warmth and subtlety that have, in recent years, made it popular for the smaller scale of body text in magazines and booklets. Lumina combines a fluid, informal look with an upright, fairly formal character structure. The font is reminiscent of leaded or stained glass, suggesting a trying to-be-solid outline with flowing inner spaces. Characters are softened by the use of staggered heights and slightly irregular widths, creating the impression of hand-crafted, ink-drawn shapes. Lumina is unusual in that it gives a medieval treatment to a modern character outline. The outline has been given an irregular, slightly hand-crafted look that is at variance with its modern character and hints at both the informality of a grunge font and the carefully hand-drawn quality of medieval illuminated scripts (hence its name). It is one of the few informal, compressed fonts that retains a high degree of legibility. Use it when you want your text to be both relaxed and readable, and yet take up very little space on the page. Lumina Regular is not an outline font in the usual sense, since it contains one or more rounded hollows or lacunae within its outline. Pauline Script is a Vintage inspired Monoline script. It's a contemporary script inspired by the past, now available to the Instagram era. Pauline Script is a follow up to the popular Pauline typeface. Pauline was one of my first typefaces, all the way back in 2008. Inspired by a variety of influences, from Art Deco signage, to a simple spice label, Pauline Script has very little stroke contrast and was inspired by Retro connected scripts. Over the course of its evolution, it started to take on more influence from geometric sans serif typefaces and lost the connectors. There's a strong geometric streak, derived from 1930s sans serifs like Futura. Tall ascenders and descenders give it a unique look. Now, this script version has now come full circle, utilizing the original sans serif face design and adding connectors back in, with an optically corrected dynamic slant. For invitations, signage, logos or other applications, Pauline Script is there when you need something that stands out with a touch of class and a sense of uniqueness. Turning on Contextual Alternates (non connecting ending forms) and Discretionary Ligatures (better letter connections) is highly recommended. There's a wide range of weights available. It's a playful typeface with options to either have everything connected, or alternate forms which allow for letter connections that still maintain the sense of flow of a script. Includes plenty of ligatures!

Mr Robot is a typeface designed for our next book for children. We wanted to have a colorful, dimensional and edgy looking letters for headlines. There are three ways to use Mr Robot. You can align three text frames with same text but with different colors and font styles (Regular, Shadow 1 or Shadow 3 and Shadow 2) or with ALLinONE font style but select a different OpenType Stylistic Sets (set 1 is like Shadow 1, set 2 like Shadow 2 and set 3 like Shadow 3). This works great but we don’t like to have unnecessary text frames in our layouts so we added a very cool Contextual Alternates OpenType feature. You just need Mr Robot ALLinONE style and only one text frame. First make sure that Contextual Alternates is off. Type every character three times (RRROOOBBBOOOTTT), select colors for each letter (first letter of every three is a side shadow, second is bottom shadow and third is a front of the dimensional letter). When everything is set just turn Contextual Alternates back on. Styles and alignment will be set automatically. Check out the Users Manual for a visual explanation. For web fonts it is better (at least for now) to use the first method (with font styles) as the OpenType features are not supported in older browsers.

Tomi Haaparanta got the idea for the Tyke typeface family after using Cooper Black for a design project. He liked Cooper's chubby design, but longed for a wider range of weights. “I wanted a typeface that was cuddly and friendly,” recalls Haaparanta, “but also one that was readable at text sizes.” He started tinkering with the idea, and Tyke began to emerge. Even though Haaparanta knew his boldest weight would equal the heft of Cooper Black, he began drawing the Tyke family with the medium. His goal was to refine the characteristics of the design at this moderate weight, and then build on it to create the light and bold extremes. Haaparanta got the spark to design type in 1990, when he attended a workshop held by Phil Baines at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. “I've been working and playing with type ever since,” Haaparanta recalls. He released his first commercial font in 1996, while working as an Art Director in Helsinki. After about two dozen more releases, he founded his own type studio, Suomi Type Foundry, early in 2004. At five weights plus corresponding italics, Tyke easily fulfills Haaparanta's goal of creating a wide range of distinctive, completely usable designs. The light through bold weights perform well at both large and small sizes, while the Black is an outstanding alternative to Cooper for display copy.
