  6. Vagebond by Characters Font Foundry, $17.50
Vagebond is a monoline family in three widths, Condensed (C), Normal (N), and Extended (XT). With Vagebond I was inspired by a very old television I once saw on a junkyard. I wanted to create a typeface with round edges that would fit within the 4 x 3 proportion of the screen. It had to be monoline, because that gives it a very simplistic and minimalistic look. Having created the XT width I felt it needed the both complementing widths to make it complete. The Condensed version, for me, is the funky rounded version of the DIN. I love DIN, but it sometimes feels just a bit to ‘normed’ for me. Vagebond C brings in a bit more personality. Although Vagebond looks kinda ‘oldstyle’, it works very well in futuristic designs. It feels best in combination with a super futuristic 3d object.

  10. Northstream Wind by Monotype, $-
Northstream is a Neo-Grotesque in motion. The typeface was inspired by an attempted photograph of an interesting shop sign that was interrupted by a passing truck. The resulting effect was a blur of movement and designer, Hendrik Weber, wanted to capture that feeling within the typeface. The result is a whirlwind of a design and the shadow behind the letterforms creates a very interesting effect. This typeface is meant for graphic designers to enjoy and play around with, and it is best suited for display text and large sizes such in posters and billboards. Northstream was designed as part of the Font Marathon that was run at the Monotype London office in November 2016. This version is available for free and because of the short time frame is supporting a Basic Latin character set and a few alternates.
  11. “So-called Baskerville Old Face of the type foundry Stephenson Blake & Co. of Sheffield. The Script is probably not immediately linked to Baskerville, but it is very much influenced by it. It is one of the most beautiful types of which the mats still exist; it has an incomparably different spirit than the ‘streamlined’ re-cuts of today’s Baskerville. Even keeping the general restraint extremely expressive. According to Berthold Wolpe (‘Signatures’ No. 18), the punches were cut and shown in samples in 1776 by Isaac Moore, who came from Birmingham to Bristol.” – Jan Tschichold, “Meisterbuch der Schrift”, Notes On The Plates, Page 231 Publisher note: I wanted to improve the contrast between thick and thin, reduce some ink-traps and give stems, serifs and links a smoother overall feel. I have also added some alternative letters and old style numerals.

  13. Scissor Madness by Hanoded, $15.00
Back in 2017, I was working on a cutout font that I originally wanted to call Scissor Madness. In the end, I named it Cut Along and it was quite a popular font for a while. This week I decided to clean up my fonts folder a bit (as I usually have tons of unfinished fonts lurking in there) and I found a file named Scissor Madness. It was the original try-out for Cut Along. It contained a couple of nice glyphs that I never used, so I started playing around with them and after a day, I had a whole new font! So, in short, Scissor Madness was partly cut out by hand, partly computer made, but it is 100% fun to use! Scissor Madness comes with a bunch of very cute discretionary ligatures.
  14. Somatype by ArtyType, $29.00
As with any attempt at a new typeface, you want to create something different. A difficult task as most legible fonts are based on something previous. Somatype isn't actually based on any particular font but it has unavoidable similarities to others. The important difference here being the distinctive quirk of the connection points going opposite to the norm; exemplified best by the lower case d & e. Once devised, the unique characteristic was applied wherever possible, keeping the rest of the characters in a sympathetic, rounded style. I first designed this in the light weight version, seeing it working best as a large open display font for magazines etc. but realized it would be too light for body copy at small scale, so, medium and bold weights were created to resolve that issue. Incidentally, the word ‘somatype’ literally means body-type.
  15. Zulu-Ndebele Pattern by Scholtz Fonts, $19.00
Zulu-Ndebele Pattern is the first ever font to be based solely on the traditional decorative patterns of the Zulu and Ndebele tribes of Southern Africa. The designer has lived in KwaZulu (Place of the Zulu), for over 50 years and has made a life-long study of traditional Zulu beadwork and carving, and of Ndebele wall decoration. There are 52 pattern units that may be combined in many ways to create borders, backgrounds and an unlimited number of designs. The pattern units correspond to the upper and lower case letters. The reason that the Zulu and Ndebele patterns have been grouped together is that the true tribal areas are contiguous and the there has been much artistic cross-fertilization between the two cultures. Many of the patterns that are used by the two tribes are identical.
  16. Le Rock by URW Type Foundry, $39.99
Le rock is the newborn sister of my first typeface Jazmo and a relative of my music-inspired font family. Le Rock seems to wiggle and jiggle a little as if it invites you to dance. This is caused by the gaps in the individual characters. The typeface can also be seen as eroded, carved and sculpted by mother nature. But besides, the design of Le Rock can also be associated with the characteristics of stones: Solid and since ever, here, there and everywhere. To walk on, lean against, to be surrounded by, to build with and to shelter in. It cannot be denied, that there are also some comic art influences. The font is outspoken enough to be used in any form of graphic design, like poster and flyers, but at the same time it remains readable enough for longer texts.
  17. CA Kometo by Cape Arcona Type Foundry, $19.00
CA Kometo is an oblique headline typeface that consists of two styles, “Regular” (the Shadow) and “Fill”. Kometo has come to save the world. A superhero typeface featuring the super powers “shadow” and “imperfection”. It comes to save you from a world of boredom. Join Kometo and experience the fun of stacking fonts! Write something with “Fill”, copy paste it to another layer and switch to “Regular“. Maybe you will want to give it a little offset? Or you can also try to use the “Fill” style for body text, but do so at your own risk, spacing and kerning is optimized for the use with the “Regular“ style, so don't be too harsh if the results looks more vivid than text normally does. The character set is well built, supporting Western and Central European languages.

  19. Monden by Tour De Force, $29.00
If you'd like to scream, but you have no self esteem, or you'd love to start a fight, but you're scared of the night, I made this font for you all, whether you're short or tall. Monden is wide, gentle and fun, but it wasn't born under the Sun, it was my intention to make it unique, I surely hope I didn't make some freak, it looks a bit classical, in moments maybe here and there radical, but it surely is really graphical with a dose of something magical. Want a logo, poster or any other design, but you'd rather cry and then run, even this description sounds lousy, at least it isn't so drowsy, so meet Monden family from our hood and keep your spirit in good mood, and do the things on any way you think they should.

  24. Toronto Subway by Quadrat, $35.00
Toronto Subway is based on the lettering originally used for station identification and signs by the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) in the Toronto, Canada, subway system. The first subway line opened in 1954. However, the original lettering remains unique. The lettering on the original signage consists only of uppercase characters and a few bits of punctuation in two weights: Regular and Bold, introduced in 2004. The Toronto Subway fonts were developed from rubbings of the lettering etched into station walls and photographs of painted signs. The overall style of the lettering is very mechanical, almost naive, yet still having a certain amount of elegance. This style was followed as much as possible in creating the extra lowercase, punctuation and other special characters. Strait passages second part… I tried in this fifth (that's why she took the name "Pentathlon Pro”) consecutive font family to give her a character style with again a strait way of writing. Walking on the same considerations as the previous series (Khamai, Aeolus, Corset & Artios) I tried to give some sense of diversity for the strait passages of character: those fourteen style are the result. And in this family, the “Bold” with "Inlier" and “Bold Italic” with "Inlier Italic” engage in the same way as did the “Layered font families” in the previous series. Also I added a design statement for the twelve zodiac signs, only presented in the Bold, Inlier, Bold Italic and Inlier Italic style. 38. Expedition One by Gustav & Brun, $6.00
To be independent or to be dependent? The formula “one plus one is one” is here essential for this to work. The different cases, upper and lower is dependent on one another. To give us clarity they have to work together, to be like one the upper and lower cases must work together. Expedition One works best in InDesign or equivalent software. How to use it: write your text in lower case, copy the text frame and ”Paste in Place”, change your lower case text to upper case (you do that under top menu->type->change case). Change colour if you want to and maybe change the blending mode in the effects window to “multiply” makes it even more sparkling. On numbers and ampersand for example, you have to use the glyph window in InDesign to find their second half.
