Tomi Haaparanta got the idea for the Tyke typeface family after using Cooper Black for a design project. He liked Cooper's chubby design, but longed for a wider range of weights. “I wanted a typeface that was cuddly and friendly,” recalls Haaparanta, “but also one that was readable at text sizes.” He started tinkering with the idea, and Tyke began to emerge. Even though Haaparanta knew his boldest weight would equal the heft of Cooper Black, he began drawing the Tyke family with the medium. His goal was to refine the characteristics of the design at this moderate weight, and then build on it to create the light and bold extremes. Haaparanta got the spark to design type in 1990, when he attended a workshop held by Phil Baines at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin. “I've been working and playing with type ever since,” Haaparanta recalls. He released his first commercial font in 1996, while working as an Art Director in Helsinki. After about two dozen more releases, he founded his own type studio, Suomi Type Foundry, early in 2004. At five weights plus corresponding italics, Tyke easily fulfills Haaparanta's goal of creating a wide range of distinctive, completely usable designs. The light through bold weights perform well at both large and small sizes, while the Black is an outstanding alternative to Cooper for display copy.

Perfectly Nineties is a beautifully nostalgic upper and lowercase typeface that looks incredible in both large and small settings as a display and body text. It's gorgeous used on its own, or paired as you see above with Aguafina Script (free from Google Fonts: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Aguafina+Script ) One thing to note about Perfectly Nineties is the letter spacing. It was intentionally spaced for clean reading if you wanted to use it for body type, so I recommend setting the spacing a little tighter for display use (around -20 should do!).

Cunaeus is intended primarily for use in running text. It brings together the types of two renowned sixteenth-century punchcutters: the roman is an interpretation of a pica font cut by Ameet Tavernier (c.1522–1570), and the italic that of a pica font of Robert Granjon (1513–1589/90). Granjon’s italics have inspired a number of revivals in the past, but usually of his more slanted styles; the present digitization features the lesser slant of his so-called ‘droit’ style typical of the mid 1560s. A Stylish Technology Sans Serif Initiate began as a digitization of a film typeface from LetterGraphics in the early 70's known as "Kent". The original specimen was only in a Black weight with a tall x-height and included standard Capitals, Lowercase, Numerals and minimal Punctuation. Ardone is a well-modulated humanist serif font family with Garalde roots. A distant ancestor is Minister (a German font designed by Fahrenwaldt in 1929) through my first font, Diaconia Old Style. This first style, book, is slightly condensed and very elegant with thin bracketed serifs. There are many OpenType features with over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, discretionary ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accent characters (including CE), ordinal numbers (1st-infinity: lining and oldstyle), and so on. Ardone is designed for text use in body copy.

Carnas, a new monoline sans with a light, slender and informal appearance. It is however forceful and strong enough for headlines and signage. Despite the reduction in its shapes, it is pleasantly readable for both shorter and longer text applications. The Carnas family consists of 16 styles and is well suited for ambitious typography.
