Linotype Schachtelhalm is part of the Take Type Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. The inspiration of German designer Ilka Kwiatkowski is not hard to figure out and the font carries the German name of the plant which was its model. The alphabet consists exclusively of capital letters with clear geometric basic forms. The font is meant for headlines in point sizes of 18 and larger. The details which make Linotype Schachtelhalm unique and true to its inspiration are however best seen in large point sizes, such as on posters, and Schachtelhalm is best combined with neutral fonts.

Stradivari is a romantic, classic and elegant serif. It was created based on the decorative forms of the Stradivarius “General Dupont” violin. During the Baroque era, this type of shape with a gouty ending was common. It can be found in many areas like architecture, sculpture, and even in the design of contemporary lyrics. This typeface can be applied to editorial design, branding, product packaging, magazine headers, or simply as a text overlay to any background image. DejaRip is a contemporary, neutral, all-purpose sans-serif. Isotonic started out as a spin-off with the idea of creating a text oriented version of Ciutadella, it has since taken on a life of its own. Building on a foundation that has proven to work very well, we decided to open the counters and increase the x height. Even though it is not strictly a text font, it works surprisingly well in body sizes and screens. It came from a distant solar system, beyond any space we know. With superior knowledge and the ability to totally destroy the world as we know it...unless we act now...and find the strength to...arghhh... Naaah, I am just pulling your leg. The Serious Damage font could be used for something dramatic as the font for a movie poster, featuring the next "earth will be destroyed by aliens" movie. But it is suitable for more than that! With its straight lines and chunky letters, dramatic or not, Serious Damage could be a good choice!

In the 1990s I drew a text face for the San Francisco Chronicle. It was based on W. A. Dwiggins’ Electra and incorporated many features of the Linotype Legibility Series: More compact, with a taller lowercase X-height, etc. That type was called Electric and it was the Chronicle’s text face for nearly a decade, surviving several redesigns. From that, I made Azuza, a more detailed and sensitive style. Azuza was recognized in the TDC2 type competition in 2001. Then it went into hibernation as a Type 1 font family. Today it is back. Six fonts. Open Type.

Old Stefan is a display font that simulates the appearance of typewritten text. Each letter in Old Stefan has been carefully designed to resemble the effect you get with a typewriter. Ruff N Ready is a little bit rough around the edges and is ready for use on any project! This font has an innocent charm about it but is a bit of a non-conformist. Is it a serif font? Sans serif? A script font? It’s all of those and more! It’s legible enough to be used for body copy but holds its own in a headline or title. You’ll find a few unusual ligatures in the font and some fun alternates. I hope you enjoy using Ruff N Ready as much as I enjoyed designing it!
