Ornella is a very typical art nouveau typeface that perfectly fits into the series of URW++ Jugendstil fonts released in the last couple of years. Ornella was reworked, redesigned, completed and digitally remastered by Ralph M. Unger for URW++, based on specimen taken from old font catalogues.

The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then. Also in the 80s, a new, improved version of the Nimbus Sans, namely Nimbus Sans Novus was designed. Nimbus Sans Novus was conceptually developed entirely with URW’s IKARUS system, i.e. all styles harmonize perfectly with each other in terms of line width, weight, proportions, etc. On top of that, Nimbus Sans Novus contains more styles than Nimbus Sans. Now, Nimbus Sans is also available as Round (like the popular URW fonts Futura Round and Eurostile Round). The Round versions are intended to facilitate the work of designers and typographers. The fonts can be used directly, without further preparatory work in graphic programs as finished, high-quality Rounds.

New Bayreuth is a new and improved version of the original Bayreuth font (Friedrich Hermann Ernst Schneidler, 1932). New Bayreuth was reworked, redesigned, completed and digitally remastered by Ralph M. Unger for URW++, based on specimen taken from old font catalogues. Besides Ganz Grobe Gotisch and Legende, New Bayreuth is the third type design by Schneidler that URW++ brought back to (digital) life.

Another tip of the hat to the halcyon days of woodtype, this cap-small cap typeface takes its name from the bustling Mexican metropolis just across the Rio Grande from Brownsville, Texas. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

URW Urban follows the trend of pattern fonts. Each character has been provided with an individual pattern created with a special stamp technique. To create a vivid typeface, there is a stylistic alternate for nearly every character. In this way the grotesque has a modern, unconventional look. Houschka Rounded is the companion family to Houschka Pro, featuring CE, Baltic, Turkish & Cyrillic language support plus small caps, stylistic sets, contextual alternates, ligatures and 4 sets of numerals. Houschka Rounded may be a softer & cuter sans serif than her big sister but she's equally versatile.

Created exclusively for an exhibition catalog for the exhibition 'Hail to the King, Baby!'. CA Hail to the King is based upon different letters taken from handmade signs from all over the world. You will find a lot of unexpected specials: irregular character sizes and styles (uppercase characters are bold; lowercase characters are in regular style) everything that makes CA Hail to the King so varied and unpredictable. In addition to west European diacritics an extensive central European character set were added including some very nice stylistic alternates.

Inspired by an old Russian book about Moscow’s plan to take over the world, this font was designed to give digital prints the taste of hand lettering. It’s vivid outlines and slight differences in boldness between characters give it an accurate and realistic imperfect letterpress look. It works amazingly well as a text font in small sizes and shows it’s crippled outlines only at larger sizes. »CA Moskow has a plan« has got an extensive character-set including Russian Cyrillic, the Russian Rubel and the Turkish Lira sign. Although it includes kerning, for a full simulation of letterpress print and cold-war feeling we recommend to turn it off.

One in the series of fonts celebrating the Halcyon Days of Handlettering. Magic Lantern is a caps and small caps font based on an untitled design by Samuel Welo, whose Studio Handbook for Artists and Advertisers appeared in six editions between 1927 and 1960. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Qiltray is a good example of how handwritten fonts can be made for use in long texts. With clear and readable letters, Qiltray may be used in any kind of publications. Includes Cyrilic and CE character set support.

This is a squared sans serif font family developed out of a taller Bank Gothic model plus a true lower case with many OpenType features and over 600 characters: Caps, lower case, small caps, ligatures, discretionary ligatures, swashes, small cap figures, old style figures, numerators, denominators, accent characters (including CE), ordinal numbers (1st-infinity: lining and oldstyle), and so on. It is designed for text use in body copy. For display tighten the tracking.

Eurostile, created in 1962 by Aldo Novarese for the Nebbiolo type foundry, is one of the most popular sans serif fonts of all, and has been for about 50 years. Originally designed as a screen font it was very popular from the beginning, even though it is only a slightly modified version of the 10-year-older Microgramma, but completed with lower case characters. On public demand, URW++ has expanded its range of Eurostile with Eurostile Round with 19 additional styles. Quite like Futura Round by URW++, Eurostile Round works perfectly well as webfont.

In the 1921 work Letters and Lettering by Frank Chouteau Brown, these letterforms were offered as examples of typical medieval English fare. The font is all caps, but there are variant letterforms in all the lowercase positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Equalis Stencil is a slab-serif typeface. This OpenType font comes in three weights, alternates and symbols, with support for CE languages. Equalis Stencil can be used as display type, headlines, packaging, signs routing and a wide range of projects.

Filo Pro is a very beautiful and highly legible typeface family as regular, medium and bold. It is a quite characteristic, modern interpretation of the humanistic serif. The serifs of Filo Pro are not too dominant, and its forms are soft and organic. The font family renders extremely well in text sizes but can equally well be used for headlines. The OpenType Pro family of Filo Pro comes with an extended Latin character set including a large number of beautiful ligatures as well as small caps and different sets of figures. Filo Pro has been chosen to be part of the URW++ SelecType.

Valentia is an elegant font, casual and readable, this new script typeface is based on Copperplate style. Valentia has been drawn with spontaneous strokes and slightly contrasting thicknesses.The capital letters are full of expressiveness, with very dynamic "ductus" and linked ends, which allow to decorating with subtle and finishing touch. Contains small caps and titling. Decoration variables with its own terminal forms and initial forms. You can use Standard and discretionary ligatures, swashes, stylistic and contextual alternate, old style figures, CE languages andornaments.

Auntie Pat is a new script font in my continuing objective of designing scripts that I can really use. Of course, I am looking for readability in booklets. In many ways, Auntie Pat is a very unusual script in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This is font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. I didn't bother with the CE accents (though I can add them upon request). There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Like all of my fonts, there are: caps, lowercase, small caps, proportional lining figures, proportional oldstyle figures, & small cap figures, plus numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors, and a complete set of ordinals 1st through infinity. Organicon is based on the geometric forms used in chemical formulas and tables. It is the best possible font for use in scientific areas because of its handwriting character and excellent legibility. Organicon was designed for the URW++ FontForum.

Hair is another beautiful URW++ FontForum contribution by Wojtek Ruhnau. It is a technically ambitious multi-line script-like type design that should be used carefully and in large sizes only. However, set properly, Hair renders beautifully and charmingly.
