Gerard Unger’s new typeface Alverata is a twenty-first-century type-face inspired by the shapes of Romanesque capitals in inscriptions of the eleventh and twelfth centuries, without being a close imitation of them. It is additionally based on the early twentieth-century model, but tweaked so as to prevent blandness and monotony. Alverata performs beautifully in both screen and on paper, delivering excellent legibility. Its letters are open and friendly in small sizes and lively and attractive in large sizes. They are robust, and show refinement in their detail. Unger’s Alverata is an extensive type family, with versions for both formal and informal applications, and with Greek and Cyrillic relatives. Alverata consists of three different fonts: Alverata, Alverata Irregular and Alverata Informal, that vary in form and width, but maintain the same spirit. The Irregular version is particularly inspired by the Insular letterforms, the uncials, and their constantly changing positioning. Alverata strikes a balance among Europe’s diversity of languages, combining contemporary typographical practices with features of medieval letterforms, from the time when Europe came into being. Visually, some written languages, such as Czech and Maltese, differ quite strongly from languages like English and German, notably because of their many accented characters. While other typefaces will show this difference, Alverata removes it. As a result, Alverata enables harmonious convergence of languages.  For the development of the Greek letterforms, Unger collaborated with Gerry Leonidas (University of Reading) and Irene Vlachou (Athens), and with Tom Grace on the Cyrillic letterforms.

When was the last time you listened to elevator music and found yourself humming along? And perhaps the tune you were listening to, got stuck in your ears for the rest of the day...the rest of the week? That's often what happens with elevator music: maybe you don't notice it - but it is there, and it could most likely be one of your all time favourites! :) My Elevator Music font does somewhat the same: it's nice and pretty harmless - but it works, perhaps even without you noticing! :) I've added 4 slightly different versions of each lowercase letter - and that goes for both Regular and Scratch versions. And they both have multilingual support, because elevator music is universal!

Old Kharkiv was inspired by the first half of the 20th century photo with a signage on the building of the Ivan Kotlyarevsky Kharkiv National University of Arts. During the development, the font has acquired unique features not from the original signage, for example, drops in uppercase were replaced with sharp serifs. This font contains the letters of all the main European languages, Cyrillic and basic special characters. Some uppercase letters (where allowed their form) have decorative elements (swashes) to use them as drop caps or initials. There are stylistic alternatives for some Ukrainian letters. Also, as a bonus, this font contains up to a dozen graphic elements that you can use in your layout.

Clavo was picked for the EXHIBITION CALL FOR TYPE - NEW TYPEFACES and is presented in the Gutenberg Museum in Mainz, Germany. Clavo is a multipurpose font family. Its warmth comes from subtle details, classical proportions and traditional forms, while harmonious structure prevents distraction while reading. This makes Clavo a universal typeface. In all sizes, from caption to display. The family consists of ten weights. They were not created in a linear way. British designer Bob Newman's Horatio family is a delightful look back into the modernists experiments of the 1920s. This geometric sans serif design was created in 1971, and was originally released by Letraset. We are please to offer the family in digital form, in light, medium, and bold weights. Many designers during the 1920s were interested in reforming the alphabet, and wanted to reconcile letterforms with the machine and manufacturing technology of the age. Herbert Bayer at the Bauhaus was one of many designers who developed a universal alphabet," creating letters using only the simplest of geometric forms. Similar experiments in 1920s-style revivals were also created during the 1970s, most notably Herb Lubalin's ITC Avant Garde Gothic."

This font was inspired by one of a standard French manual styles in use from the beginning of 1900s to the end of World War II, when people were writing most often with pen holders and metal nibs. This typeface is easily legible as it was used for the lithographic printing of university textbooks. All lower cases from a to z and numerals from 0 to 9 are doubled by a slightly different one to allow a varying manual aspect in texts. We have added a lot of diacritic characters, covering West (including Celtic) and North European, Icelandic, Baltic, Eastern European and Turkish language. A few special glyphs allows to make final loops or underlining.

'Prosto' in the name of the font is translated into Russian as “Simply”. Prosto Sans Condensed is the condensed version of the Prosto Sans font family. First place in a spelling-bee competition, a Harvard University diploma or the Nobel Peace Prize? You can't go wrong with this classic Swedish calligraphy font, created by veteran designer Bo Berndal. He named Gertrud after his better half, but was also inspired by old handwritten documents: "Gertrud is a calligraphic letter design from the 16th century. I used it when I engrossed diplomas with a flat-nibbed pen in the 1980's. When I got my Mac I generated the typeface in Fontographer." ITC New Baskerville is one of many contemporary type families based on the work of John Baskerville (1706-1775), a writing master and printer from Birmingham, England, whose types were cut by the punchcutter John Handy. Baskerville produced a masterpiece folio Bible for Cambridge University, and today, his types are considered to be fine representations of eighteenth-century rationalism and neoclassicism. ITC New Baskerville is a late 20th-century interpretation of Baskerville’s style, designed by John Quaranda. In 2007 we shared our first pride together. More than 1 million people took the streets of Madrid for this huge celebration … seeing the diversity of people supporting love was incredibly touching. It’s a memorial for the battles, the lives lost and the pain suffered while fighting for a growing list of equal rights. But let’s not forget there are still places where LGTBQ community is repressed and persecuted. As Letter crafters we love seeing the signs people design for their different pride parades, and we wondered… Why don’t we create a collection of handcrafted lettering to share some love and to add a typographic realness to the party? In 2009, a book from 1897 in the library of the University of Wisconsin caught David Berlow’s attention. It was set in a clear text face—a predecessor of Bookman—cast by the Western Type Foundry who called it Custer. Upon noting how well the typeface worked in sizes of 6 and 7 points, Berlow developed it into a member of the Reading Edge series specifically designed for small text on screen. Custer RE was a broad and approachable typeface drawn large on the body with a tall x-height to maximize its apparent size when set very small. This was the beginning of the newly expanded series; in 2020, Berlow added new optical sizes and weights, growing the original design’s versatility up to headline sizes.

Tall, thin and elegant, Marian Churchland’s fonts are very much like her.. and now available from those awfully nice chaps at Comicraft to allow you to pretend that you are too! Marian Churchland was born in Canada in 1982, and was raised on a strict diet of fine literature and epic fantasy video games. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (English Literature and Visual Arts) from the University of British Columbia, and has been doing professional illustration work, including book covers and magazine articles, since she was 17. Last year, she became the first woman to solo-illustrate a CONAN story, and this year she’s illustrating three issues of ELEPHANTMEN for Image Comics.
