Oktah Neue is an extended version of a more limited Oktah family. Since its release in 2019, Oktah Neue received two major updates, the most recent in June 2022. Dr. Gerard Unger expands the concept of Sanserata to a sans type family with Sanserata, adding specific characteristics which improve reading. Sanserata’s originality does not overtly present itself at text sizes. Rather, at those sizes, it draws upon its enormous x-height, short extenders, and articulated terminals to improve readability, especially on screens. Having articulated terminals means characters flare as they near their end, but readers likely won’t notice. What they would notice is that their ability to take in more content in a line of text is improved because the lettershapes are more defined. Articulation also makes clearer text from digital sources, where rectangular endings tend to get rounded by the emission of light from the screen. Lately there seems a whispered discontent with the lack of progress in the sans serif category. Designs can either stretch too far beyond what is accepted or be too bland to be considered new. Sanserata’s strength is in being vivid and unique without being off-putting. This bodes well for designers of paragraphs and of branding schemes since, with Sanserata’s two flavors, it is well able to capture attention or simply set the tone. Sanserata’s first voice is a generous, friendly, and even cheerful sans serif. But when using the alternate letterforms its voice becomes more businesslike, though still with nice curves, generous proportions, and a pleasant character. Sanserata comes in seven weights with matching italics, covers the Latin Extended character set, and is loaded with extras. Its OpenType features allow for the implementation of typographic niceties such as small caps, both tabular and proportional lining and oldstyle figures, ligatures, alternate characters, case-sensitive variants, and fractions. Rigatoni is a didone display family with exceptional readability. Based on a German mid-century lettering specimen by Nerdinger, designer Alejandro Paul expanded the face into an extensive family, with 5 weights, italics, and a 2 weights stencil version. Its tall letterforms and sturdy serifs give it a noble bearing when set in all caps; in the lower case its large x-height and spacious counters imbue it with a welcoming tone. A plethora of alternate and swash characters let you create distinctive settings for identities, labels, titles, and headlines. Use the shorter ascender and descender variants for aesthetic effects, or to prevent collisions in tightly stacked text. Vertebrata is a serif type family of six fonts, designed by Fulvio Bisca between 2011 and 2014. It embodies features from different ages of writing and history of typography: the solemnity of Capitalis Monumentalis in uppercase and small caps, rhythm of Textura in lowercase, sturdiness of 1800 Slab Serifs in the overall look and feel, and a contemporary modular approach to the construction process. In spite of the geometric genesis of the letterforms, special attention has been paid to optical corrections, in order to obtain a natural and legible design. With more than 500 glyphs per font and carefully designed small capitals, Vertebrata is a complete OpenType family, including multilingual and advanced typographic features. Regular, Italic, Bold and Bold Italic styles are intended for both text and display applications, whereas Black and Black Italic are more suitable for display size settings.

This steam era typeface, created by Gustav Schroeder in 1884, found popular use on soap box labels and tobacco tins during its initial release. Then, later, a successful and stout revival of Gustav's face, named Othello, was carried out by Morris Fuller Benton in 1934, and the typeface's appeal widened to include items such as broadside posters featuring Boris Karloff's Frankenstein. After metal gave way to film type, Gustav's creation experienced a brief fashion moment in the 1960's, but then disappeared entirely, never re-surfacing as a full digital typeface. With the release of Bathysphere, the typeface comes full circle, having been completely redrawn from scratch using Gustav's original specimens. The new extended language support establishes the typeface firmly in the modern era, while Bathysphere's refinement of subtle blunt corners restores a deep-sea grace to this iron giant.

In nautical folklore, the Flying Dutchman is a ship that can never go home and is doomed to sail the seas forever as a ghost ship. The story of the Dutchman appeared in print in the 1820s. With different versions written over the years, some date the legend to the 1640s or the early 1700s. The Flying Dutchman font is a revival of an 1876 font from MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan Co. The Truetype and OpenType formats include a larger extended character set with Central and Eastern European accented letters. Extra characters in this font are left and right pointing hands in place of the less than and greater than keys and a pirate flag is on the bracket keys. New to this style is the distressed version where the letters look like they've been hacked by a cutlass.

GRUND is a new fontographic adaption of a remarkable 1920s epigraphical find in the city of Leipsic. This old well-known European trade fair hotspot struggled with a severe shortage of exhibition space around 1920. The solution was to dig deeper into the matter – literally – and 1924 the world’s first underground trade fair exhibition hall was opened right under the city’s central market square. After several changes of use during the past decades the sophisticated Art Deco entrance structure (architect: Otto Droge) was re-opened in December 2013 as a gateway to a new subway rail track. – The original brass lettering of the UNTERGRUNDMESSHALLE MARKT has been retrieved – and served as the inspiration for this new and unique font. Alex Kaczun, originally designed BottleKaps for Linotype-Hell, in 1992, as a QuickDraw GX multi-master font series. A few new GX applications, like 'Unicorn', where able to utilize these unique fonts. The GX application allowed the user to adjust weight and proportions, on the fly, including glyph substitution for small capitals, old style figures, swash and alternate endings. The technology was never successfully deployed by Apple, so the individual fonts, 21 styles and variations in all, where sold in the Linotype Font Library as separate Truetype fonts up until 1998. Unfortunately, the fonts collected dust for many years thereafter, but now have been reworked and rejuvenated by Alex in OpenType format for both Mac and PC. My pet peeve for many years has been with the 'rn' in small texts, especially with my smart phone. I felt that perhaps others may have the same peeve. I decided to try and fix that with Atlantica. As you can see in poster No. 4. "With the combination of 'rn' in small text it tends to appear as 'm'. Therefore it may be read as 's t e m' instead of 's t e r n'. Altalntica has an alternate 'rn'. By invoking the < Contextual-Alternate > feature. Atlantica will replace each 'rn' - or you may individually change them if you desire". Also note the deep cuts to help legibility for smaller texts. This combination apparently does not appear in many words, but when it does it can suggest a different word as in; eastern, stern, tarnish, Tornado, Turn and in some names as well.

Although about 14 miles inland, Norwich, Connecticut lies at the head of the Thames River. The river is both wide and deep, and therefore was not bridged in the early 20th century. Until then, if you wanted to get from Groton on the west bank to the whaling port of New London on the east bank by land, you had to go by way of Norwich. Because of its size, the Thames is navigable all the way from Norwich to New London. Docks were built in Norwich around 1685 and the city became Connecticut’s 2nd largest port by 1800. With the construction of the Norwich & Worcester Railroad in 1835, Page could easily ship his wood type north by rail or south by coastal schooner.
