Amaro is the Italian word for bitter (amaro) herbal drinks like Ramazotti, Averna and a trillion lesser known ones. These liquors were the literal base for this elaborate set of four fonts. Each has different uppercase letters and some of the lowercase letters vary as well. Amaro-A, B, and C can be mixed freely. The Amaro-D has underlining swashes in two different lengths, the uppercase has the shorter underlines and the lowercase the longer ones. I've had a lot of lovely cakes through the years (My wife is a great cook!) But I've also tried some really...ehem...not so good cakes. Actually, the worst cake I ever had, was at work - if you didn't know, I work as a kindergarten teacher - and the cake was made by one of the kids! Anyway, this font was made as a sort of tribute to that cake - the font may not represent something that is smooth and lovely, but it was made with lots of personality and love - just like that cake from that kindergarten kid!

Come into the boudoir. This simple hand-drawn sans tries to invoke the same feelings as its name - and not to be overluscious. Boudoir is sweet and sensual like women, but it’s at the same time uncluttered and masculinely straightforward. The font borrows some playful capital shapes from the all caps Baronessa and draws inspiration for others from old classics. Thanks to the bolder weights, it can also be used in smaller sizes, you can combine different weights for different sizes to obtain a more balanced look, or you can just give emphasis using different weights.

The movie poster promoting the 1962 James Cagney comedy "One, Two Three" had it's text done in free-style hand lettering. Starting with an auto-trace in order to have an isolated version of the black letters separated from the red poster background, the tracing kept the basic forms intact, but with limited accuracy. Cleaning up and digitally reshaping the letters manually to form a more correct version [closer to the original movie poster], additional figures, foreign characters, accents and punctuation were drawn from scratch. This is now available as Handwritten Note JNL in both regular and oblique versions.

As a kid I used to write my favourite football teams name with 3D letters over and over again. I spent hours doing this - often to find out I had the colors wrong, or I had made a spelling error or two - but now, several years after, I have created the "Like a cat" font - so that you can make "handmade" headlines or funny quotes or even your favourite football teams name in a swoosh! Op-art never looked so good. Taking a cue from the popularity in the 1970s of deco Prismas and their related contemporary interpretations, this geometric font updates the trend. Overlap text in different colours or black and white for eye-teasing moiré combinations. Paestum is a Latin typeface inspired by Greek inscriptions of the 6th and 5th centuries B.C. Its name comes, suitably, from the Latin name for Poseidonia, a former Greek city south of Naples whose two remaining Doric temples have been on antiquities tours since at least the 1700s. Others have scanned this terrain before, of course, but earlier designs failed to supply a lower case. Although Paestum includes complete upper- and lowercase alphabets, diacritics, numerals, and essential punctuation, it does not have many unhistorical glyphs -- such as currency symbols and the @ sign. Paestum comes with three weights: light, medium, and heavy.

SK Fillout is a display typeface inspired by the problem of information noise. Noise is embedded in the basis of characters structure, which gives it a unique form. The typeface is built on combining several thicknesses into a single symbol form with an offset at different distances. For better expressiveness, each letter has two variations of the character it included into the uppercase and lowercase sets. Vikive is a family of Sans Serif fonts, better known in its origins as "Gothic" in America or "Grotesque" in Europe. Some unusual hand lettering was found on the cover of the 1924 edition of a Spanish language novel by Joaquin Belda entitled “La Hora del Abandono” ("The Time of Abandonment"). The title was created as all lower case characters in a semi-serif style reflecting the dawn of the Art Deco movement. A new set of capital letters was created for this digital revival, along with the numbers, punctuation and other necessary glyphs. Mantequilla JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions. For those unfamiliar with the Spanish language, Mantequilla (pronounced mon-tay-key-yuh) means butter.

Charlemagne, one of the great rulers of the Middle Ages, was instrumental in the reestablishment of formal education in the West. This font was inspired by the notion that he felt the need to protect his communications from people with the ability to read; a rare skill then. Did he really command such a script to exist? He did instigate the development Carolingian minuscule script. Here are two different systems that are both attributed to him. Does it provide any real security? Zapatista is derived from a typeface that I designed in 1998 but never released. It is a playful slab serif with a texture that is sometimes subtle and reminiscent of the irregularities of letterpress printing. Like a fine wine, this face has been aged to perfection and is now ready for public consumption. It includes a full character set with accented characters as well as a second full set of alternate uppercase, lowercase, and numbers. In the early days of PostScript fonts, I designed a font of leaves called XLeafMeAlone. In 2006 I decided to revisit this topic and the result was two sets of new leaf fonts: MapleOaks and MoreLeaves. MapleOaks contains almost 100 images of maple, oak, and sycamore leaves, and MoreLeaves has almost 100 images of leaves of various other species. There are four MapleOak fonts. They have identical images; only the orientation of the images is different. In MapleOaksUR the tips of the leaves point to the upper right, in MapleOaksDR the tips point down to the right, etc.

John Baskerville spared no effort to create the ultimate typographic book. He prepared deep black inks and smoothed paper to show to full effect the letters that he had John Handy cut from his own brilliant designs, based on a lifetime of calligraphy and stonecutting. Punches and matrices survive at the Cambridge University Press. The present design is an accurate recutting, with particular attention to George W. Jones’ revision from the metal of Baskerville’s English (14pt) roman and italic in 1929 for Linotype & Machinery Ltd; Mergenthaler Linotype imported this design to the USA two years later.

Neubau is a condensed geometric display typeface, designed in 2009. The inspiration for this face came from Joost Schmidt lowercase letters developed during 1925-28 in Bauhaus Dessau. Schmidt was one of the proponents of New Typography – a movement advocating the use of only lowercase letters which were constructed strictly geometrically using only ruler and compass. I raise chickens for eggs and meat. I usually buy fertilised eggs online and place them in my incubator, which says that it is 'fully automatic'. Of course I added that rather random introduction to tell you how I came up with the name for this new font... Fully Automatic is a handmade cartoon font: I used a sharpie pen to draw the glyphs onto rough paper. The result is a wobbly, yet quite clean cartoon font. Fully automatic comes with extensive language support and two sets of alternates for the lower case glyphs that cycle as you type.

Hexatype is part of a series of typographic experiments from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson. In this font, Parson has created an intriguing system of lines that form into letters, all based off of a hexagonal grid. Text set in Hexatype takes on an interesting honeycomb-like appearance. For a different effect, try overlapping individual letters, or use a few of Hexatype's letters together as elements in a logo. A good companion to Hexatype is Linotype's Ned Std. Bang was designed by David Sagorski in 1993 as a playful font of spirals. It consists of two capital alphabets which can be combined like the usual capitals and small caps, although both have the same height. They differ from one another only in the decorative forms which adorn them and the highly decorated characters of one set are complemented by the slightly more reserved characters of the second. Serious this font is not, rather, with its circles and spirals, Bang is best in point sizes 12 and larger and is meant for short texts and headlines.

The lettering for Stencil Box JNL was found on the packaging of a children's toy stencil set circa the 1940s. Popular for years, Pencil Stencils were a series of "connect the line" stencils where a series of dashed lines were traced from the cutouts and the lines connected to complete pictures of animals or other subjects. Although the packaging itself was often updated to reflect the current times during the life of the product, it was this hand-lettered example of stencil-meets-Art Deco from the 40s that proved worthy of saving as a digital typeface.

Pistol Twelve JNL is a novelty version of Jeff Levine's Twelve Oaks JNL wood type font, with the addition of random bullet holes in the upper case characters. The font design was suggested by fellow type designer Ray Larabie. Pistol Twelve JNL is a two-fold pun. Initially, this conveys the obvious fact that the design is a variation of Twelve Oaks JNL with bullet holes... but the name is also a play on an old, old joke. One person asks the other: "Would you care to join the Pistol Club? You drink 'til twelve and..." Well, you get the picture!
