Rétrospectif is a tribute to the fonts of the Thirties and Forties. It consists of two families, Rétrospectif and Rétrospectif faible. The two families differ in height: Rétrospectif is particularly stretched, Rétrospectif Faible is lowest. Petrarka may be described as a Condensed, Sans-Serif, Semi-Fatface Roman. Huh? Bear with me on this. The Fatface is a name given to the popular nineteenth-century romans that where characterized by an extremity of contrast between the thick and thin stroke. The earliest example that is generally familiar is Thorowgood, believed to have been designed by Robert Thorne and released by Thorowgood Foundry in 1820 as "Five-line Pica No. 5." Copied by many foundries, it became one of the more popular advertising types of the day. Later, in the period from about 1890 to 1950, you find a number of typeface designs with the thin stroke beefed up a bit, not quite so extreme. What you might call Semi-Fatfaced Romans begin to replace the extreme Fatfaces. Serifed designs like Bauer’s Bernard Roman Extra Bold and ATF’s Bold Antique appear. In addition, we see the development of semi-fatface lineals or Sans-Serif Semi-Fatfaces. Examples include Britannic (Stephenson Blake), Chambord Bold (Olive), Koloss (Ludwig & Mayer), Matthews (ATF) and Radiant Heavy (Ludlow). Petrarka has much in common with this latter group, but is distinguished by two salient features: it is condensed and it shows a strong blackletter influence, as seen in the ‘H’ particularly. Petrark was released about 1900 by the German foundry of Schelter & Giesecke of Leipzig and is one of the designs of the period that attempts to reconcile roman and blackletter traditions. Making a cameo appearance in this Multi-Lingual font is the Anglo-Saxon letter yogh (#729), which, along with the thorn and the eth, is always useful for preparing flyers in Old English. There are still pockets of resistance to the Norman French influence that washed up on England’s shores in 1066. Vox Round is the softer version of the Vox family. The original brief for Vox was a extensive monoline typeface that can be both precise and friendly, yet contain enough choice of seamlessly interchangeable variants for the user to be able to completely transform the personality of the typeface depending on the application. This font is an adaptation of the cyprus syllabic script to a Latin-based font. I tried to assign as many correct letters as possible, but there were too many characters so I had to fit them. Please review the alphabet table of Cypriot syllabic to use the Font. To see all the characters, you can see all the characters and add them to the text by selecting this font from the add character section on the word page. Cypriot syllabary The Cypriot syllabary was used in Cyprus from about 1500 and 300 BC and is thought to have developed from the Linear A. The earliest known inscriptions from between 1500 and 1200 BC are in an unknown language called 'Eteo-Cypriot', or 'True Cypriot', and the script in which they are written is called Cypro-Minoan. From around 1200 BC Cyprus began to be colonised by Mycenaean, Minoan and possibly Cretan Greek settlers, and they probably adapted the existing script to write their own language - the oldest known inscription in Greek dates from the 11th century BC. Cypriot Greek had much in common with Greek dialects of Arcadia and Pamphylia, which corresponds to the province of Antalya in Turkey.

After exploring tessellations for several years, I decided to see how many ways I could tessellate puzzle pieces. I began with a square template and used the same asymmetrical shape for all four edges. By flips or rotation each edge could be fitted in four ways. Eventually I discovered that, given this way of forming tiles, there were 15 distinct shapes that tessellate and these shapes can take a total of 96 orientations. (A note in the November 2016 issue of Mathematical Gazette has the proof for the 15 shapes.) This typeface contains those 15 shapes and 96 orientations. A pdf note here shows some of the tilings possible using only one shape in a pattern. An unlimited number of patterns are possible if shapes are mixed. There are two members of the family, a solid style that must have different colors when used and an outline style. They can be used separately or they can be used in layers with the outline style on top of the solid style. For rows to align properly, leading must be the same as point size. (Earlier tessellation fonts from IngrimayneType, the TessieDingies fonts, lack a black or filled version so cannot do colored patterns.)

Saral, meaning simple in Hindi, is a monolinear design supporting most Devanagari based languages. Derived from the older Linotype typeface Rohini, it has been greatly expanded into three weights and a wide character set. Saral Light, Regular, and Bold are made to coordinate with the respective weights of Helvetica. This design works well in many environments, such as corporate designs, advertising, packaging, signage, and especially for bi-lingual texts. The OpenType font format accommodates hundreds of pre-composed conjuncts, accurate placement of vowel signs, and supports varying length matras. Saral's Unicode encoding guarantees your text is rendered correctly and is compatible across different software and computer platforms. Please note that due to current operating system and application limitations the OpenType features in complex scripts such as Davanagari are not universally supported. Saral is designed to be rendered correctly in Microsoft Word on Windows running the latest version of Uniscribe. Quell is a novel attempt to bridge the gap between geometrically constructed shapes on the one hand, and modulated strokes and subtle calligraphic influence on the other hand. The visual tension in Quell stems from conflict between two tendencies: The perfectly round shapes are geometrically constructed, yet the contrast of stroke widths and oblique line terminations suggest calligraphic roots. How this dualism affects typographic impression is up to designers and typographers using Quell — as variable font the seamless transition between modulated contrast and linear appearance offers unique typographic possibilities. Linear appearance gives the text a solid and compelling voice, whereas the modulated styles convey elegance, vibrance and a delicate tone. Quell is suited to display setting, headlines, way finding and identity. The combination of linear and contrast variants provides typographic range to convey different stance while rooted in the same visual heritage. In short paragraph typesetting the fonts have a modern look and characterful tone, but should not be overused for longer texts. Quell has been in development for over a year, and is the proud third release under the Underscore label. Characterized by quickness, lightness, and ease of movement, Bird Script is a font which challenges many aspects of type-design: every single stroke, comes directly from the author’s hand and tries to reflect not only the tool used, but also his feelings at the moment of writing. Bird Script is a font filled up with the energic gestures of what it’s called gestural calligraphy, a not very explored field in typography, where hardly ever a letter comes the same way two times: When manipulating the pen, the letterer seeks for the beauty of the differences and the grace of a confident execution. Originally done with a flat speedball pen nib nº5 and retouched with pencil for the bolder elements, it turned into a very pleasant to the eyes font which dances between the formal rules of typography and the artistic look of calligraphy. About Molhim: I first designed Molhim in 2016 as a personal project to digitalize my handwriting. Molhim 2016 was a static typeface, including two weights, and supported basic Arabic only. Since it was my first typeface to design, it had several issues regarding letterform design and aesthetics, good curve drawing, proportions, font programming, and correct OpenType features. So, in 2019 I started redesigning my handwriting font from the beginning to produce a neat Multi-lingual typeface suitable for diverse purposes. Arabic letterforms are redrawn with a focus on proportions and unity. Molhim Variable characteristics: Supports basic Arabic, and Arabic script-based languages, such as Persian and Urdu. Supports Basic and extended Latin characters. Includes 200+ ligatures and alternate styles for a natural flow of letters. Latin small letters have both separated and connected script forms. Philadelphian is a revival of a MacKellar, Smiths & Jordan font from 1867 by the same name. The regular version with shadow outline was the only style that was offered in 1867. We've taken the original design further by creating two additional weights of medium and bold plus plain black versions. The medium and bold weights are unique because only the horizontal strokes increase in thickness while the vertical strokes remain the same in each weight. Philadelphian Nite is the plain black version of this font family, Nite is the casual spelling of the word Night meaning dark or black. In the late 1800's Philadelphian was a very popular typeface which can be seen on many billheads and letterheads through the early 1900's. If you're looking for a western style font that doesn't look like any other then Philadelphian is the right choice. While the name doesn't remind you of the cowboy genre we've kept the original name for historical reasons because this font was so popular in its day. We plan on going forward with a weathered version of Philadelphian which will be released under a southwestern style name. With Philadelphian we've decided to set the complete family price to an amount that may be considered on sale all of the time.

Between geometry & shapes inspired by nature, in 4 fonts Audace was born as a response to a simple brief: how to visually express human interaction and technology with abstract forms? The starting point is a humanistic sanserif, to which are added external references: design pieces, furniture, buildings. Architects shape our world with the intention to reconnect nature, human and address a perfect functionality. Not so far to typeface design which combines a personal vision and ensures good legibility in a certain context. Audace — like the works of those artists, designers, architects — is clearly influenced by the tension of the line, the play with negative space, the dynamics, the surprise, the nature that will influence the shapes of the letters. So if a v is asymmetrical, and the y based on similar asymmetry but in reverse, these two shapes help to distinguish from one to the other. This is a consequence of the influence of forms from design and art in the design of the Audace. And this small example illustrates the confrontations of the designer’s influences: the search for the most unique shapes, but without compromising on function: to be read, to be legible, even at very small size in the worst conditions. Paperside: Neither Papyrus nor SSI Countryside. Inspired in some ways by the Papyrus form, but untextured and smoother, with the dimensions and proportions more open, like that of Countryside SSi, with its larger easily readable lowercase body, and more consistent, shorter stems. Paperside has an open scripted feel which is pleasing on the eye and easy to read. Paperside can enhance the first letter of most sentences automatically, and changes other letters to suit their position within words, and the letters they appear beside. Now comes in 5 weights plus italic. For best results, use this ‘smart font’ with Contextual Ligatures turned on. Mulitiple Stylistic Alternatives are included. Inspiration for this font came from two other fonts. Papyrus: was designed by Chris Costello and created in 1982, it is a hand-drawn textured typeface, emulating texts written in biblical times. One of the most used (and misused) fonts of all times. Owned by Letraset, and currently published by the Internation Typeface Corporating (ITC). Countryside SSi: The serif font of an unknown designer, is currently licensed by Southern Software Inc. Evoque Text is a humanist serif type family specifically designed for a comfortable reading experience. This has been achieved by optically adjusting the regular weights from my original Evoque family (released November 2021). You will notice a significantly reduced x-height and longer ascenders and descenders, complemented by adjustments to weight and spacing. This makes Evoque Text a perfect choice for any long passages of text. All OpenType features have been retained from Evoque. A plethora of swash alternates and discretionary ligatures enhance Evoque Text, giving you the opportunity to embellish your typography. Simply activate Stylistic Sets to start adding these flourishes to your text. Other useful features include Small Caps at the click of a button, and Old Style Figures are an option to the default proportional figure style. There are 14 fonts altogether over 7 weights in roman and italic, you can also avail of two variable fonts which allow you to fine tune the weight to your exact liking. The reason for Nicolien van der Keur to design the Rougon font was the translation of twenty novels written by Emile Zola, a French writer, and translated by Martine Delfos. It follows the lives of the members of the two titular branches of a fictional family living during the Second French Empire (1852–1870) and is one of the most prominent works of the French naturalism literary movement. This series deserved a font with French roots and corresponded to the period in which Zola’s books were written and published, the period between 1870 and 1893, the end of the nineteenth century. Extensive research into French historical typefaces has led to a type specimen from the French type foundry Deberny et Cie in Paris around 1907. It turned out to be good and helpful source as it contained a sample of a typeface that reflected the content and style of the novels, but also represented the period in which the books were written in France. A large part of the novels are about the generations of Rougon, so it seemed a natural choice to give the font that name. It is available in one weight and contains stylized portraits of Emile Zola and the French Marianne. This font also contains various ornaments.

Idealista directly responds to its other members, Nudista and Kulturista. It shares the same proportions and the same set of weights, yet it enriches the expression means of the two typefaces with new themes — the character set is smooth, even round, and it boasts a number of special details and perky moves. Most of all, Idealista relishes juicy magazine titles, typographic logotypes and propagandist posters. Unlike cold, technicist typefaces, it has great zest for life, so there's no wonder that in each of the letters, intuition wins over intellect. Owing to this, the text set in Idealista has a special voluptuous quality and unmistakable temperament — in a single typeface Idealista combines the best of sans-serif, slab-serif, as well as geometric and calligraphic construction principles, coming down to one impressive, expressive cocktail. Some letters have serifs, some do not, some are sharp, some are smooth, and all this results in the nice hip-hop beat of the line of text. The typeface has five weights and ten styles in total, so it can easily accommodate to the needs of complex texts, unlike many of its display counterparts. Idealista is valuable partner for the more text-suited Nudista and, if need for tiny sizes arises, to Kulturista as well.

VetteLetters is proud to bring you the TpKurier-family. It is cooked up by our German chef Martin Lorenz currently living in lovely Barcelona! Chef Lorenz about the TpKurier recipe: “TpKurier is the second redesign we did of Courier. The first redesign in 2000, although based on a five-unit grid, was drawn completely by hand. Six years later we designed another grid version of Courier, and the TpKurier family was born. This version is completely constructed up till its last detail. We didn't want to correct ‘mistakes’ deriving from the use of the grid, but instead make them visible (see “S”). TpKurier is based on a very simple grid, composed a proportion of four units high by two units wide. A series of other links between them make it possible to form a font from this grid. We felt it was important to consistently work within these limitations so that any unexpected asperities would help provide the font with its character. Even though it is a rough constructed typeface it was important to us to design real italic lower case letters and not just a sloped roman (see “a”, “g” or “s”). The first family published contained a serif and sans-serif version of the TpKurier, with italic and bold.”
