Banret is built using simple geometric shapes. It is mostly the result of my experiments on the other font I made earlier in 2016, called Inventor. Font is inspired by old fonts of the beginning of the 20th century. Capital letters are built with one to four proportions. The font has four weights: normal, and bold, and two alternatives: ribbon, and flag. As far as it is a decorative font, it is not designed for large amounts of text. But it is perfect for creating branding elements, logos, slogans and posters.

Boardley Script is a script-style display font in two layers, Boardley Script was the result of an exploration of mid-century American and European bold script lettering for advertising. is an attractive contemporary typeface drawn from scratch with brand-new, more vigorous detailing — and layerable variations for chromatic use.

Stuttgart Gothic is based on early 20th century hand lettering samples developed by Ernst Schneidler at the Stuttgart School of Design. It is a very bold style in the gothic tradition, but with additional characters for modern users. It is at once both quintessentially gothic and uniquely modern and decorative.

Rataczak is a stiff, awkward serifed font that was inspired by similar fonts from the 19th century. It is legible as a text font but not graceful. In addition to plain, italic, bold, bolditalic, extrabold, condensed, and condenseditalic styles, there is a striped style and a font of swash capitals.

Ghiberti is a contemporary interpretation of the bold Florentine lettering style used with marble inlaid and bronze cast inscriptions of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The font, consisting of caps and small caps, was designed by Paul Shaw and Garrett Boge in 1997. Ghiberti is part of the LetterPerfect Florentine Set.

Mercury Script is an action packed type family of three weights. JabcedHy is a serifed, legible typeface in four weights with each weight having both an upright and an italic style. The original four fonts (plain, italic, bold, and bolditalic) were constructed by blending two other typefaces, and because the result seemed better than either parent, the parents were retired. An extra-bold, hand lettered type design with a casual feel was used for the 1942 movie poster “Tortilla Flat”. This served as the inspirational model for Movie Ad Deco JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

The extra bold sans serif stencil lettering on movie posters and lobby cards for “Reform School Girl” (a 1957 film by American International Pictures) was the basis of Reform School JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

This face was designed in 1925 as the Monotype answer to the very popular Cooper Black. Goudy is also quite similar in appearance to Ludlow Black and Pabst Extra Bold, both of which were also done in response to Cooper Black.

Latin music was all the rage in the United States from the 1930s through the 1950s and songs with a “South of the Border” or “Old Mexico” theme were plentiful. The 1940 sheet music for “Make Love with a Guitar” evoked the idea of serenading one’s lovely lady on horseback while strumming the guitar. ..at least if you went by the by the illustration under the song’s name. As the hand lettered title was rendered in an Art Deco design, it became the basis for Jazz Guitar JNL [which seemed a more befitting name], and is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Blackburn is a distressed text font designed to capture the look of old printing at small sizes. Based on a 19th century French type specimen, it contains a complete international character set.

ATF Franklin Gothic® A new take on an old favorite Franklin Gothic has been the quintessential American sans for more than a century. Designed by Morris Fuller Benton and released in 1905 by American Type Founders, Franklin Gothic quickly stood out in the crowded field of sans-serif types, gaining an enduring popularity. Benton’s original design was a display face in a single weight. It had a bold, direct solidity, yet conveyed plenty of character. A modern typeface in the tradition of 19th-century grotesques, Franklin Gothic was drawn with a distinctive contrast in stroke weight, giving it a unique personality among the more mono-linear appearance of later geometric and neo-grotesque sans-serif types. Franklin Gothic has been interpreted into a series of weights before, most notably with ITC Franklin Gothic. But as the original type was just a bold display face (later accompanied by a few similarly bold widths and italics), how Benton’s design is expanded to multiple weights and styles as a digital type family can vary significantly. Benton designed several gothic faces that harmonize with one another, including Franklin Gothic, News Gothic, and Monotone Gothic, that can serve as models for new interpretations of his work. With ATF Franklin Gothic, Mark van Bronkhorst looked to Benton’s Monotone Gothic—originally a single typeface in a regular weight, and similar to Franklin Gothic in its forms—as the basis for lighter styles. Designed at Polygraphmash type design bureau in 1951-52 by Vera Chiminova, Isay Slutsker, et al. Based on Candida of Ludwig&Mayer, 1936, by Jakob Erbar. This typeface has the characteristics of slab-serif, but serifs are much thinner. The capitals are of generous width, x-height is large. Good legibility in small sizes makes this typeface useful in newspaper and magazine typography, while strong character shapes provide for pleasant display lines. The digital version in 3 weights was designed at Polygraphmash by Alexander Tarbeev in 1988. Small capitals, additional Bold, Extra Bold, and Extra Condensed styles were developed by Manvel Shmavonyan and released by ParaType in 2008.

Originally made for a health food store chain we cannot name, Pipa is the embodiment of organic display typography. Although it draws inspiration from some cold type ideas, like the uncredited Atlantis from VGC and a couple of older photo-lettering faces, its overall expression is right in line with what has become today's vernacular in integrity organic display packaging. Pipa's construct approaches the thick-and-thin idea from a rarely used perspective, where the flow in form contrast naturally seeps out from within each stroke, while minimizing the amount of strokes helps the totality of the setting come positively alive. This is bead and lava lamp psychedelia for the 21st century. Pipa comes with plenty of alternates, including some very cool unicase variations, and extended Latin language support.

The rather wide, caps-only Monotype Engravers family imitates scripts that evolved from copperplate and steel plate engravers hands of the nineteenth century, which were a quite expressive medium! Monotype Engravers' letters show a strong contrast between thick and thin strokes and have sharply cut serifs. In 1899, Robert Wiebking (who worked for a number of foundries in his time) designed an all-caps typeface named Engravers Roman."" Shortly thereafter, American Type Founders, Inc. (ATF) released another successful ancestor of this design in 1902, ""Engravers Bold,"" designed by Morris Fuller Benton. Engravers Bold was also released by the Barnhart Brothes & Spinder foundry. Also made available by Lanston Monotype at the beginning of the twentieth century, the Engravers faces soon became a popular choice for letter heads, advertising and stationery.

Stiana font is a venetian serif in modern design. The general idea was inspired by beautiful masterpieces of Nicolas Jensen and William Morris. Stiana holds fine, balanced readability of venetian serif, and both 21st century trends. Letterforms are expressive and bold enough to use font as display, but it also fits nicely for text. Stiana supports Western Europe, Cyrillic and Greek languages. Stiana is surely a good choice both for screen applications and print media. Its multipurpose spreads over package design, logos, headlines, body texts, stationary and back labels. Also very good for books and magazines.

Goudy's cut for ATF around 1901 is probably the most widely known. Copperplate typefaces are traditionally used for business cards and all that "serious" stuff. My Copperplate Classic is a completely new design, based on some old samples. To make it look more up-to-date and elegant, I gave it some extra swings here and there. The old fonts were all designed with clogging corners or points that can break off in the minds of its designers. Today we do not have those problems any longer, so I could give my Copperplate Classic real sharp pointed serifs. Empresario Stephen F. Austin (1793-1836) is considered by many the “Father of Texas” for leading the first Anglo-American colony into the then-Mexican territory back in the 1820s. A few years later, while on a diplomatic mission to Mexico City, Austin was arrested on suspicion of plotting Texas independence and imprisoned for virtually all of 1834. During this time he kept a secret diary of his thoughts and musings—much of it written in Spanish. Austin Pen is my interpretation of Austin’s scribblings in this miniature prison journal (now in the collection of the wonderful Dolph Briscoe Center for American History, in the Texas city that bears his name). The little leather-bound book is filled with notes in ink and pencil—some of the faded penciled pages traced in ink years later by Austin’s nephew Moses Bryan. A genuine replication of 19th century cursive, Austin Pen has two styles: a fine regular weight, along with a bold style that replicates passages written with an over-inked pen. Each is legible and evocative of commonplace American penmanship of two centuries ago.
