It's been a while... more than three months we developed our brand new font. We call them "Meastro". Fun fact though, we want to call it "Maestro", but you know... we were afraid of the copyright thing. Meastro Script is a fun, bold, luscious, retro display script font. We crafted this font very carefully and make them very smoothly attach to each other. Especially, on the script version. You can see every character's tail beautifully connected one to another without using ligatures' help. This font takes full advantage of the Open Type format with several automatic ligatures that occur as you type for your preferred design. VTC Bloke is a revival of Miller & Richard’s classic metal typeface, ‘Egyptian Expanded’, including the three-dimensional, ‘Open’ style that was later introduced to the family. The roots of this typeface stem from the UK, where William Miller and his son-in-law Richard had their initial foundry in Edinburgh, Scotland. In addition to the beautiful and timeless type designs, the foundry gained a reputation for offering super small type sizes, designed for Bibles, dictionaries, documents, etc. Slab Serifs (or Egyptian Serifs) started to gain popularity in the early 19th century. It’s around this time, due to emerging industrial technologies, and an ever-expanding advertising industry, that type designers started to really experiment with letterforms that could help their clients distinguish themselves from the competitor, and catch people's eyes. The size of posters and advertising space was getting bigger, and bigger, and so was the type. All original letterforms have been re-drawn and cleaned up, with some more modern glyphs and characters added in. VTC Bloke supports Adobe Latin 1 Language Support.

Hi, presenting a classic style font Aquatory. It's a thin and tall decorative font with nice classic shape. A descent advantage of this font is a big set of ligatures and additional characters. Bandalero is a witty display font from British designer Richard Yeend. The letterforms in this poster/display typeface are quite square-ish and geometric. The lowercase letters have short x-heights, and the uppercase letters look dressed for a showdown, with bandoleer-like elements strapped across their tops. Because of this, Bandalero should only be used in large sizes, where it can really stare down its opponent, or reader. This might be the best font yet for a keep out sign! Bandalero was designed in 2003, and is part of the Take Type 5 collection, from Linotype GmbH."

When drawing a new font, there is a time when the final form is found – almost – but the curves are not slick and clean yet, that's what I call the "raw" form. Raw – no sweeteners added! In this family I redefined this moment in type development for the eternally beautiful "Franklin Gothic". I call the design "Franklin Gothic Raw". This packet is the semi-serif addition. There never was a Franklin-Gothic with serifs but actually the font lends itself perfectly to a slab-serif. I started with adding a half serif and eventually add a full slab-serif later on.

This American original was designed in 1901 by Frederic W. Goudy for the American Type Founders in Jersey City. Copperplate Gothic is an all caps font which looks like a sans serif at first glance. But closer examination reveals tiny, pointy serifs which almost seem to round off the letters. Designers rely on this font’s lofty and sublime impression and it is often seen in advertisements, but it has also made a place for itself in private and business correspondence and corporate design. The AB and BC designations in the style names refer to the relative sizes of the capitals and small capitals.

The Face2Face (F2F) series was inspired by the techno sound of the mid-1990s, personal computers and new font creation software. For years, Alexander Branczyk and his friends formed a unique type design collective, which churned out a substantial amount of fresh, new fonts, none of which complied with the traditional rules of typography. Many of these typefaces were used to create layouts for the leading German techno magazine of the 1990s, Frontpage. Branczyk and his fellows would even set in type at 6 points, in order to make it nearly unreadable. It was a pleasure for the kids to read and decrypt these messages! F2F Monako Stoned was inspired by the Apple system font Monaco, and is one of 41 Face2Face fonts included in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype. Branczyk designed 16 of these himself."

From the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, by way of Toronto, comes Martie's handwriting. Martie Byrd is a school teacher in Roanoke, Virginia, and a friend of Canada Type's Rebecca Alaccari. After years of admiring the cheer and clarity of Martie's handwriting, we asked her to write out full alphabets for some cool font treatment. The intent was to do three different versions of her writing in two different pens, then use the auto-magic of OpenType to determine letter sequences and rotate character sets on the fly when the fonts are in use. A successful endeavor it was. Take a look at the images in the MyFonts gallery to see the character rotation in action, along with a visual explanation of why Martie is not just another handwriting font. Unlike other available felt tip and ballpoint handwriting fonts, the regular and bold variations are style-based, not weight-based. They are the handwritten expressions of two different Sharpie pens: The fine point one (Martie Bold), and the ultrafine one (Martie Regular). The style-based variation considerably helps the realism needed in design pieces that take advantage of the contrast of two different handwriting fonts. Weight thickening in handwriting is an obvious mechanical effect that only happens with computers. Weight changing by replacing pens is what happens in the real world. Martie Pro and Martie Pro Bold each contain three different character sets in a single font. Language support includes Western, Central and Eastern European languages for all three sets. This translates into each Pro font containing over 750 characters. Add OpenType code and stir, and you have true handwriting fonts with versatility unavailable out there in anything else of the genre. A software program that supports OpenType features is needed to use the randomization coded in Martie Pro and Martie Pro Bold. Current versions of QuarkXpress and Adobe applications (Photoshop, Illlustrator, InDesign) do contain support for the randomization feature. But if you don't have one of these apps, you can still use the interchangeable Type 1 or True Type fonts and change the characters manually to achieve the appearance of true handwriting. The Martie fonts come in a variety of price packages, from the affordable single fonts to value-laden complete sets. All the proceeds from these fonts received by Canada Type will be donated 50/50 to two primary schools: One in Roanoke (where Martie teaches), and one in Toronto (where the 10-year old, real Canada Type boss goes).
