AggressIan is the release of the first font I ever drew. It was done by hand with triangle and parallel rule back in the mid-1980s. I originally called it Aggressor, but I never liked it. My local type designer friend, Ian Roberts, really likes this type of drawing and told me I had to release it. So I named it after him. The small caps should work well if you need a bolder version. It has oldstyle and lining figures, plus the small cap figures. I hope you like it.

This is a low-contrast sans serif font with open letterforms. Its shape is distinguished by rounded upper parts of lower case. Susan, Susan Classic and Susan Sans forms a super family coordinated on weight, style and proportions. The inspiration source for Memoriam Initials is the 1934 Book of American Types by American Type Founders. In that specimen book, they had created a sophisticated two color initial design they called “University Initials” which was only available in metal type at 24, 36, and 48 points. This wonderfully detailed initial style is now digitally recreated and revived for modern use. Memoriam Initials is only capable of initial or single letter monograms due to its unique design. The two color aspect of the original design has been preserved and made accessible within all programs. The Capital character slots contain the background color glyphs, and the lowercase slots hold the outline art for the letters. You can choose a color, type a capital letter, then switch to black and type a lowercase letter for the two color effect, or just type a lowercase letter on its own. It’s that easy! The typeface was designed at ParaType (ParaGraph) in 1993 by Tagir Safayev. Based on Placard typeface (Hermes Grotesk) of the Lange type foundry (St.-Petersburg), an adaptation of Hermes Grotesk, of the Woellmer type foundry (Berlin, middle of the 19th century). This sans serif with its old-fashion stability looks well in advertising and display typography.

In an 1896 specimen catalog for American Type Founders there is a design called Geometric Gothic. The lettering style looks as if it’s ahead of its time; foreseeing the 1980s. With its squared characters, some pointed overhangs and modified character shapes, this type design is now available as Squared Off JNL, in both regular and oblique versions.

I searched all over the internet looking for a realistic sand writing font and came away empty handed. Undaunted by this, I grabbed my business partner, Mary and trekked down to our local river, the Arkansas (pronounced ar-KAN-sas around here). Using sticks, we scratched out the entire alphabet in the sand, including upper & lowercase, and punctuation marks! I photographed the characters, converted them to line art on my computer and used font creating software to turn it into a true type font! This font was designed for adding dates, places and messages to your beach photos that looked as if you wrote it in the sand before you took the picture! It is a decorative font best used in large, headline sizes. To make it appear more realistic, select a darker color from the sand in the photo to use for the type instead of black!

The original release notes from England’s Stephenson Blake Type Foundry say it all: “a type of some waywardness in design, judged from any typographical standard…a type that seems unable to decide whether to be a roman or a script." Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Based on William H. Page’s Clarendon Extended wood type from the 1800s, Clarified JNL is digitally available in both regular and oblique versions. In the days of wood and metal type, foundries often made changes to an existing design to make their font more unique and different from their competitors. Clarified JNL is different from Clarenwood JNL (which is partially based on another wood type Clarendon and features many alternate letter forms).

The Cleveland Type Foundry strikes again, with this delightful little number from their 1893 specimen book, originally named "Mikado". This version takes its name from one of the characters in the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta of the same name, and the name aptly describes the tasty nature of this frolicking face. Both versions of this font include the complete Latin 1252 and CE 1250 character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.
