Some years ago we developed a monospaced 12 pitch sans serif for a client. We also created a 10 pitch version that was later discarded. PropTen is the 10 pitch version modified to proportional widths. The name PropTen refers to 'Proportional 10 Pitch'- which is a technical impossibility. It does have a slight 'its time to vote' twist to it. You know, after you pick your candidate you also need to vote yes or no on the following Propositions, don't forget Prop10, the team needs those uniforms.

'Meeeeoooow'! Seventies is another of my 'funkadelic' attempts (1) to fill the existing gap of seventyish looking fonts. In my opinion, that decade has a hidden treasure regarding type that remains unexplored: Only very few fonts rescue its 'groovy' essence, its ‘colourful’ qualities. But, don't have a cow man , and keep on truckin! With Seventies, my new foxy mama , your projects will stand out among the rest. Since there’s not much information available about this kind of lettering I had to get ideas from other styles: Nowadays it’s easy to find all kind of books or guides to understand and practice how different styles of calligraphy and lettering should be done. However, for some reason, 60s and 70s letters seemed to ignore/be free of rules... Was this suggesting the birth of postmodernism? I incorporated some ideas of the copperplate style of calligraphy: The ductus of its forms may be compared to the way letters are made in snell/engrosser’s script. Obviously, this is just the idea behind; the delicacy of thins is replaced here with the graceful imprint of really thick thicks with a brushy look and tons of good vibe . Seventies will work awesome in posters, brands, magazines, book-covers of any kind, due to its modern look adapted to our century. Well, catch you on the flip~side ! ‘Skiart Serif Subtle’ is now available online. Originally inspired by the san serif font ‘Skia’ by Mathew Carter for Apple. ‘Skiart’ was designed to feel more like a serifed font, but without any serifs. It took a step between sans serif and serif fonts. Next on the path towards a serif font came Skiart Serif Mini, with tiny serifs added. This was a true serif font, all be it on the small side. Skiart Serif Subtle is less of a serif than Skiart Serif Mini, in that it doesn’t have actual 'serifs' as such. It has a subtle flare where a serif might normally be found. It remains fully readable and feels as clean and normal as any of the best body copy serifs, and yet still has the strong solid bones of all the other Skiart font families. If compared to one of the more commonly used serifs like ‘Times New Roman’, the ‘Skiart Serif Subtle’ lowercase is more open with a taller x-height, increasing its readability and friendliness. The serifs are smaller and less distracting. They are not pretending to be ligatures. Where ‘Times’ makes its p q b d forms out of a barely touching oval and stem, the ‘Serif Subtle’ forms are much more firmly attached, appearing clearly as single letters. The standard setting for the a’s and g’s are round single story, feeling warmer and more inviting in the ‘Serif Mini’ font. Much more friendly than the stuffy double-storied versions in fonts such as ‘Times’ etc.

The courageous Russian author of the best seller Anastasia, Vladimir Megre, once said that this remarkable woman would inspire creative people around the world to produce their best work. Since I consider myself a creative person who has been deeply touched by her story, I sincerely hope that this will be true for me also. Anastasia talks a lot about God, the wonders of the natural world and how all things have been created so perfectly. This belief in universal perfection, however, is not confined to mystics alone. Many great mathematicians and scientists, including Albert Einstein, were of the same opinion. Having read Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code, I became quite fascinated with the so-called Fibonacci series; "a sequence of integers in which each integer (Fibonacci number) after the second is the sum of the two preceding integers; specif., the series 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, . . ." (Webster’s Dictionary). These mysterious numbers, which are said to give divine proportions, are found throughout nature in everything from a rose to a spiral galaxy. Many believe that this reinforces the argument that there is a divine intelligence back of creation. With that in mind, I thought it would be interesting to see if I could somehow create a font using these numbers in the design process. If I have succeeded - even partially - in attaining these mystical proportions, it will definitely have been worth all the hard work. And, I sincerely hope that many will enjoy using this font in producing their own best work.

Metron is so far the most ambitious typeface made to order in the Czech Republic. Despite the fact that for a number of years it has not been used for the purpose for which it was designed, every inhabitant of Prague is still well aware of its typical features. Metron Pro was commissioned by the Transport Company of the Capital City of Prague in 1970 to be used in the information system of the Prague Metro. It was first published in the manual of the Metroprojekt company in 1973 and then used to the full, under the author’s supervision, for lines “A” and “C”. Since 1985 Rathouský's system has been disappearing from the Prague Metro; it survives only in the form of metal letters at its stations and at some stations of the Czechoslovak Railways. In 2014 we're mentioning the 90th birthday of Jiří Rathouský. It’s a good opportunity for updating and re-introducing his Metron. Extended was the choice of figures and fractions, new currency signs added, diacritics revised, etc., but above all the newly designed Cyrillics including true SmallCaps. Now we have six weights plus italics, where the tone of the basic style is even closer to the original. Ten years back we've had the feeling that this typeface should again take a part of Prague’s traffic system and today, when revisiting of all the fonts, the feeling turned to certainty. The main feature of this typeface is namely a noticeability a property above all welcomed in rush of platforms.

Michael Hoffmann manufactures digital fonts for 30 years. At URW++ he contributed to the technological progress. Over the years, he also specialized in the ideal representation of fonts on screen and the complex assembly of international fonts with scripts of all countries. In his latest project he put the emphasis on developing a highly readable typeface. Less interested in the design as in the functionality of this typeface, he designed Arsapia which he has now installed as a system font on all his computers. Michael Hoffmann studied Japanology at the University of Hamburg and traveled in the early years of his professional activity frequently to Japan, there to train the IKARUS font production tools to Japanese customers. In his spare time he plays guitar or golf depending on the weather. The typeface Arsapia has been designed in such a way that all three font styles Light, Regular and Bold have the same width. When a user therefore opts for the use of Arsapia Light, even though he has already written his text in Regular, nothing changes with respect to the letter tracking. When choosing the Bold for emphasis: Nothing changes except the blackness of the letters. A font change does not engender unwanted line and page breaks of itself. All letters can be clearly distinguished from each other. 1 l I O 0 are all different. For programmers and lovers of monospaced fonts Michael Hoffmann has developed a fourth typeface: Arsapia Mono. This is the perfect terminal font.

Aviano returns to lend its classic line to its newest variation, Aviano Royale--named so because of the rich flow the calligraphic capitals give the established font. The extended lowercase characters give an air of formality to the face as well and bestow on the family a deeper sense of wealth and power. This recent development of a timeless font, part of insigne’s annual tradition of adding to the Aviano family, was elected the clear winner in a poll of insigne design’s social media followers. And is it any wonder why? The long-handed elegance of Royale features graceful script capitals as well as widely tracked and smaller titling capitals, all which make Royale ideal in high-end applications and branding where titling with a taste of gentility is required. Royale’s suite boasts a number of OpenType alternates, most importantly of which are the alternate forms for the capitals. Whereas the default forms of the face are regal, it’s flourishes must be activated through the swash set. For a look more restrained, activate the stylistic alternates. It’s like having three different fonts in one! Additionally, there are baseline lowercase forms. The lowercase forms are 20% smaller in height than Aviano’s lowercase forms, so the families are not interchangeable. However, they can still be used well together. The script capitals could also be used separately as drop capitals and nicely complement any of the other 12 Aviano families. It’s time to look beyond common. Caslon Antique is a decorative American typeface that was designed in 1894 by Berne Nadall. It was originally called "Fifteenth Century", but was renamed "Caslon Antique" by Nadall's foundry, Barnhart Bros. & Spindler, in the mid-1920s. The design of the typeface is meant to evoke the Colonial era. Early printers would reuse metal type over and over again, and the faces would become chipped and damaged from use. Caslon Antique emulates this look. Despite the name, it is not a member of the Caslon family of typefaces. The renaming is believed to have been a marketing maneuver to boost the popularity of a previously unpopular typeface by associating it with the highly popular Caslon types. Caslon Antique is popular today when a "old-fashioned" or "gothic" look is desired. It is used by the musical group The Sisters of Mercy on their albums, for the logo of the musical Les Misérables, and for the covers of the books in A Series of Unfortunate Events. It is also frequently used on historical displays. It was used for the previous edition of the Warhammer Fantasy Role-Play. Most recently, it has been used on promotional material for the smash musical Monty Python's Spamalot on Broadway, the West End, and its tour of the United States. British 80's band The The also used the font in several of their music videos, usually displaying several lyrics from the song in the opening scenes. Loosely based on a hand lettered title found on vintage sheet music for the song "Hong Kong", the design for Kwun Tong JNL emulates the letters and numbers formed from pieces of bamboo stalk. Kwun Tong JNL is named for a locality in Hong Kong although (according to Wikipedia) "the Hong Kong Government is unitary and does not define cities and towns as subsidiary administrative units."

While watching a 1920s Charlie Chaplin short film, Jeff Levine was taken with the unusually modern looking lettering of the title cards in that silent movie. The lettering was not only right for its time, but could also be adapted to both Art Deco and Techno applications. From this classic film comes the font Two Reeler JNL, a bit of yesterday with an eye toward the future.

This font is not a rebel or a political font, but a simple and grungy stencil font. Use it for anything that needs a clear and catchy headline. The font is even suitable for massive text - perhaps for that skateboarding poster you have plans to do? Maybe a heavy metal concert flyer? Please don't use it for any war business, because war is stupid!

One of the most friendly Slab Serifs just got even more friendly. Museo Slab Rounded is the latest addition to the Museo font family. It has updated letterforms, spacing and kerning. It can perfectly be combined with Museo Sans Rounded. It comes in six weights with italics, that are not just slanted regulars. Key characters have been changed to give the italics more flow.

In 1927 Albert Auspurg cut Trocadero for the Trennert foundry in Hamburg. This new version is not a mere digitalization, but many letterforms were altered and updated, and missing links in the complete alphabet had been drawn afresh. Out came a beautiful cursive font with a certain charm of its own which covers beside the West European languages also those of Central Europe and Turkish.

Argone LC is a handmade organic typeface family. It is a variant of Argone typeface, but has lower case letters. It comes in four weights– light, regular, bold and black, which is a feature not seen much in handmade typefaces. This makes Argone LC a versatile and flexible type family. There is also a version of Argone LC which only has upper case letters – Argone

This distinctive titling face is based on Elegant Lichte, designed by Hans Möhring for D. Stempel in 1928, with the helpful addition of a lowercase not found in the original. It functions equally well as either a period piece or a contemporary masterpiece. Both versions include the complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, as wellas localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

A page from an 1880s type specimen book presented a unique "Barnum"-like design with top horizontal lines much thinner than the bottom ones. Titled "Ten Line Antique Compressed No. 7", the design transcends the years; for it's not only an antique wood type font, but is also reminiscent of the 1960s hippie counterculture movement. Antique Unique JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Meet Byra! A new approach to a decorative typeface. This typeface has asymmetrical terminals (round), which means than has serifs, but not in every side of the letterforms. The mix between both classic and modern elements, as terminals and the inverted contrast, gives the typeface a strong personality. Byra contains two weights, regular and bold, it’s a display typeface and great for headlines, branding and editorial proposes

DF Maraschino Black - A sleek, sophisticated swash capital font with elegant thick and thin weight distribution. Bold yet poised, direct yet refined. The swash capitals are intended for use at the beginnings of words only - best not to set this in ALL CAPS. Use at larger sizes. Also includes stylistic decorative alternates for certain characters that can be toggled on and off in the Opentype panel.

Dogfight is a hand-crafted brush font which created from scratch by using a brush pen on a paper. It is not too sharp with sharp edges, but rather with a softer rounded shape. It is suitable as a display font for printed or digital products. Mainly as an advertisement or video production. Lamiran is a Distorted Wavy Font . You're not going to write a novel with this font, I will tell you that but... if you want something seriously psychedelic thats part art and part font, then this is the font for you. It's not a new idea - combining two typefaces into one design, but when it works, it makes for an interesting novelty font. Nightcap JNL is a fun typeface that can be used by itself, or along with the two original fonts that comprise it (Parkitecture JNL and Typesetter Oblique JNL) to create some wonderful retro headlines. Nightcap JNL contains only the alphabet, numbers and basic punctuation.

Nothing is as it really should be with Thursday Afternoon. The x-height is jumpy, letters are not in their right places, lines are crunchy, serifs are uneven...the list goes on...but in the end, Thursday Afternoon turns out as a legible and functional font. It has most of the moves from classic serif fonts, but then again it has a mind of its own!
