One in the series of fonts called Whiz-Bang Wood Type, intended to be set large and tight. Ouachita Way is an ultrabold and boxy caps and small caps font, especially well-suited for commadning headlines. Based on nineteenth-century “Grecian” fonts, the name comes from a forest and a river in Arkansas. Typefaces with very thin verticals and fat, square serifs were popular in the 19th century for display. Hollywood helped associate this style with the Old West, but reference books identify some of it as Italian style. WyomingSpaghetti, part of an extended family of typefaces, has a name which combines these two associations. Most typefaces of this type are very condensed, but this one is not. The letter o is nearly circular, which is rather unusual in this style.

Frederic Goudy designed National Old Style Roman in 1916. It is loosely based on a logo he lettered for the National Biscuit Company in 1901. Steve Matteson expanded on Goudy’s original by designing a bold, semibold and matching italics. While much of Goudy’s work is strongly influenced by Venetian types of the 15th and 16th centuries - this design has a truly American quality about it. The design is useful for text or headlines that captures a sense of Americana.

This crisp and constructed Ludwig Wagner, Leipzig, blackletter font in textura style had been originally designed by Berthold Wolpe. Freshly redrawn and redesigned, it adds now to the treasure trove of historic typefaces. This font contains a bunch of useful ligatures, and it is recommended to activate Discretionary Ligatures too. By typing 'N', 'o' and period plus activating Ordinals you get an oldstyle numbersign. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the # key is occupied by the 'round' s.

Type designer Friedrich Poppl is perhaps best known for his classic text faces and elegant scripts, but it seems he had a playful side as well. This frisky face is based on Dynamische Antiqua, which Poppl did for the Stempel foundry in 1960, but which was never released. Bright, bold and bouncy, it’s the perfect choice for headlines with impish impact. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode Latin 1252 and Central European 1250 character sets.

Cindie 2 is an update of the optical type Cindie Mono. It retains the monospace-stacking system of the original, but some letters have been redrawn. It also now includes a lowercase and Cindie 2 has a script accompaniment (which isn’t mono and should be used with Contextual Alternates turned on!). Thebes is a font based on an ancient Coptic script. The Copts are Egyptian Christians, and theirspoken language is a dialect of ancient Egyptian. Their letters, however, are Hellenized andresemble the Greek Alphabet and do not have any relationship to hieroglyphics. Thebes comes with full punctuation, a character 535 glyphcharacter set that allows the user to type in most Western European Latinalphabet languages, Cyrillic, and Modern Greek. Being a decorative font, it works best at larger point sizes.

Guaruja Grotesk is the first Tipogra Fio family for headlines & body copy. The grotesque form factor is much inspired in the Modernism movement from the mid of 20th Century but the Italic weight is a great cursive contrast aside the Roman ones so you can make very brutalist layouts or craft humanist projects, without losing the communication between all the family. Do not be afraid to type words with uppercase I and lowercase L because this last one has its own personality so do others glyphs like Italic lowercase G, Y and K and the straight corners in the Roman uppercase A, K, V, W, X, Y and Z. The same curves and corners are transferred to the numbers, symbols and so on. If your text is in a latin alphabet even though has lots of diacritcs, Guaruja may get it done! There is an intentional slyness infused in the letterforms—the extreme thick and thin lines flow effortlessly without becoming gratuitous. It’s always just enough, not too much. What makes the type series so appealing? The curves. When asked to describe the letterforms, most people unwittingly allude to the human form, using adjectives usually reserved for describing physical traits… creating all-too-familiar comparisons. Summerour has grown to accept this as unavoidable and reasonable given his acknowledgement of its influences and has provided nuances within the letterforms to accentuate that.

Kompakt is one of the early typefaces of type designer Hermann Zapf, whose Palatino has long been a standard in almost every area of application. Kompakt consists of a single weight and was designed in 1952, two years after Palatino. It was produced by the foundry D. Stempel AG in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, where Zapf was at the time in the artistic department. The figures of this extremely strong and heavy typeface are decidedly those of a broad tipped pen. When enlarged, the sharp outlines of the characters can be clearly seen. The unique dynamic of the alphabet is a result of its strong serifs, which on the lower case letters almost connect the letters in a line. Together with the slight slant to the right, this gives Kompakt the character of handwriting, making it look like it is always striving to go forward. Kompakt is an excellent choice for advertisements, especially for posters which should display a hint of nostalgia, and should be used only in headlines.

Zierde is a take on early advertising, small-copy grotesks of the late 19th/early 20th century, and is largely inspired by Miller & Richard’s own range of Grotesques. More importantly, Zierde is accompanied by a large set of ornaments (+200) which hark back to the look-and-feel of the early-modernist arts and crafts movement. The ornaments in, and presentation of, Zierde owe much credit to J.G Schelter & Giesecke’s 1913 type specimen book ‘Die Zierde’. The strong functional uppercase sans-serifs alongside luscious, beautiful patterns in ‘Die Zierde’ make for beautiful combinations. This early-modernist use of grotesk alongside ornament looks bizarre in the eyes of us used to seeing sans-serifs in more formal, sterile settings. The face itself retains some historical flourishes such as the eccentric leaning angle of the italics, the long cross-bar on the ‘G’, the gammy-leg of the ‘R’, a strange ampersand and some irregular terminals across the weights. Zierde is display face meant for headlines, titles, short-copy, labels and logos. It comes in caps and small caps, Latin and Cyrillic.

Rebus Script is a fun, lively font that lets you create rebus puzzles by automatically replacing certain words or syllables with pictures. This font is an advanced OpenType font that requires an application that supports Contextual Alternates. The font was created by Terrance Weinzierl and is based on the Louisville Script handwriting font designed by Steve Matteson. To use the font you simply type a word like 'sun' or 'son' and those letters will automatically be replaced by a picture of the sun. There are over 70 pictorial symbols in Rebus Script that make up the 'vocabulary' for automatic substitution based on over 300 different syllable/word combinations in various cases (lower, upper, titling) in the English language.

Designer Steven Skaggs wanted a versatile uncial typeface that was not simply decorative. Traditionally, a true uncial is a majuscule form, entirely lacking in ascenders and descenders. However, by designing Rieven Uncial, Skaggs found a way to use the true uncial as inspiration but retained a lowercase look and feel. Typically, uncials do not have italic forms but in order for Rieven to be a truly versatile face, it was imperative that it should be accompanied by an italic. The italic form owes much to the historical roots in the letra antigua cursiva of the 15th century humanist masters. Rieven Uncial was awarded a Certificate of Excellence in Type Design in the 2010 TDC2.

Piercing is part of a series of typographic experiments from the young Swiss designer Michael Parson. In the Piercing family, which contains three separate weights, Parson has successfully transformed the movements of points and lines into a fabulous display of alphabets. But you can use Piercing as your key to the techno scene: these letters, made up of fine lines terminated by dots, virtually groove with the beat as you set them in text. Like a musical score, they provide a fantastic look just right for your next flyer. Piercing is one of ten experiments in constructed letter design that Parson has included in the Take Type 5 collection from Linotype GmbH."

Puggu is ideal for headlines or posters where slightly unusual or unrefined type is required, though paragraphs of text are quite readable. The font includes 57 ligatures of fairly common letter combinations (such as at, ee, ss, tt, Ar, RD,) with alternative letter-shapes used, to give some random variations and avoid having too many repeat letters looking identical. (The full list is included with the zip-file.) And there's a wide range of accented characters giving compatability with many European languages. The zip contains OTF and TTF versions - only install one version of a font on the same machine, either the OTF or TTF, but not both as that could cause various conflicts and erratic behaviour.
