ITC Ironwork is the work of Serge Pichii, who was inspired by a piece of decorative lettering done by Jan Tschichold in the early 1920s. Tschichold had interlocked a series of rough sans serif letters and embellished them with scattered decorative elements. The original was of only capital letters, touching and overlapping like an ironwork gate made of letters. Pichii completed the typeface with lowercase forms and smoothed the edges. The scrolls of the capitals were extended to the lowercase and Pichii based them on iron scrollwork he found in Vienna and Prague. A lot of attention was paid to the elements of the typeface in order to 'smooth out' and balance proportional relations between the elements," says Pichii. Vulpa is a charming serif family in regular, italic and bold, informed by the proportions of a personal favorite, Plantin. The quirky foxtail terminals (inspired in part by my script font, Gelato Script) can be seen across all three styles. These little details make the typeface very expressive at display sizes, but practically disappear at text sizes, making for a very versatile face. Across the three styles there are a number of useful OpenType features which make Vulpa capable of demanding typographic work, even though there are only three styles. Regular, italic and bold are all you really need anyway! The regular and bold weights both include small caps, and the italic features swash capitals for most letters. The italic also features quaint discretionary ligatures, and all styles include standard ligatures, automatic fractions, proportional and tabular, lining and oldstyle figures. If this isn't enough, the Vulpa family also includes Ornaments and Drop-Cap fonts. There is an ornament for A to B, a to b and 0 to 9. I saw a cool UT-Ligature on an old (maybe 70's or 80's) Texas Longhorns fan-shirt - it was in 3D and I wanted something like that with my own initials A and B to print it on a baseball hat. I started drawing it and when I was finished, I thought it might be nice to do the same for my officemates. I needed another G, T and K. After finishing that I thought it might be cool to do this for other people as well. Since the source of all the 3D glyphs is found in the regular ones which get moved by a 45 degree angle and then connected with lines , I first draw all the uppercase regular glyphs. The thing that followed was kind of an addiction: after finishing the uppercase letters, I wanted to add lowercase letters, after finishing the 3D letters, I thought it would be nice to have a fill version to layer with the 3D letters. Having a rough, woodcut version of the regular style would be cool, too. And the font is also pretty much suited to make a stencil version. When all this was done, I was interested on how the font would look like without the serifs and curves instead of the 45 degree angles, so I did the Longhorn Sans. Good to use for all sports-related designs, especially retro-style soccer/football shirts. Uppercase characters can be combined to form ligatures or logotypes.

Francisco never dreamed he’d end up in the street: “The experience of the street has taken away my vanity,” or that he would grow as a person there. “The only thing I’ve learnt in life is that in life you have to learn, because if you spend your life without learning you haven’t lived.” In Barcelona, the street changed his life and taught him just how tough it can be. Tough, but full of good people. He says that’s the best thing about the street.

Early Texas patriots had fascinating penmanship. In researching Texas Hero years ago, I had occasion to pore over copies of letters by the likes of Stephen F. Austin, William B. Travis, Thomas J. Rusk, and others. Austin's hand was pretty messy. Young, brave Travis wrote his last during the Alamo siege. Rusk's suited my original task. But a couple other styles caught my eye -- among them the bold yet graceful strokes of Sam Houston, the prototypical Texas Hero. Houston Pen has a complete character set.

These four typefaces, Berlinette NB, Lyonette NB, Marseillette NB and Parisette NB, were designed from the same basic shape, a fanciful geometric form that avoids strict horizontals and uses more offbeat triangular shapes. Berlinette is the medieval Gutenbergian version of the four. It’s like a weird black letter font from the 1930s. It would work well advertising an obscure brand of German beer on the side of a Zeppelin as it circles the soccer stadium during the last match. In a William Burroughs novel.

Obviously the Irish Stew font finds its origin in Ireland. During a vacation in West Ireland Donald® fell in love with the famous local dish. In fact, he loved Irish stew so much he couldn't wait to create a font dedicated to the stew from Ballymaloe. He found the inspiration for this font on an old shop front sign somewhere in Dublin. The sign only contained a few characters, but the stew had given him more than enough energy and inspiration to complete the whole alphabet!

It was a series of three different forts on various spots on the New River built during the Second Seminole War [in Florida] named for Major William Lauderdale. It was launched as the college students' spring break destination for many years thanks to the film "Where the Boys Are". It's the major city 23 miles North of Miami. But wait! There's more! Now it's an eclectic Art Deco-inspired typeface. Lauderdale JNL is based on vintage source material with many unusual letter shapes and angles.

Picture if you will, a balmy autumn evening in Manhattan during the 1930s and a well-dressed couple out on the town. They hail one of the hansom cabs located near Central Park and climb in for an old-fashioned romantic ride around the green. Such are the type of images the stylized Art Deco hand-lettering comprising Horse Drawn Carriage JNL evokes. The inspiration for this font was the title card for a 1935 Bette Davis feature entitled "The Girl from 10th Avenue".

Among the many display faces Milton Glaser designed during the heyday of Push Pins Studios was the pattern for this dramatically shadowed face, whose original name—for reasons unexplained—was "Kitchen." Well, whatever the reason, it's definitely "what's cooking," so the Italian word for the latter half of that phrase gives this typeface its name. Equally at home being kookie or spookie. Both versions include the complete Unicode Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1254 character sets, with localization for Moldovan and Romanian.

Butan was originally designed as a typographic project for the Specialization in Typography Design at the University of Buenos Aires, during the years 2013 and 2014. The project was conceived as a “wayfinding” font, that would be functional for bilingual signage systems.
