Linotype Scott Mars, from German designer Hellmut Bomm, is part of the TakeType Library, chosen from the entries of the Linotype-sponsored International Digital Type Design Contest 1999 for inclusion on the TakeType 3 CD. Bomm constructed this typeface from a consciously limited repertoire of forms, producing a strictly constructed font with a cool, technical look. Worthy of note are also the exalted numeral forms and the unusual size relation of the lower case and capital letters. Scott Mars is best used for headlines and short to middle length texts in point sizes of 10 or larger.

The hand-lettered title, cast and crew credits for 1943's "Presenting Lily Mars" (starring Judy Garland and Van Heflin) inspired Pocatello JNL, but the name of this typeface has another Judy Garland connection. In the 1954 remake of "A Star is Born", Judy sings of being born in a trunk in a theater located in Pocatello, Idaho. The name of this Midwest town had such a great sound to it, so it was the perfect choice for the font's name. Available in regular, oblique, bold and bold oblique versions.

To be independent or to be dependent? The formula “one plus one is one” is here essential for this to work. The different cases, upper and lower is dependent on one another. To give us clarity they have to work together, to be like one the upper and lower cases must work together. Expedition One works best in InDesign or equivalent software. How to use it: write your text in lower case, copy the text frame and ”Paste in Place”, change your lower case text to upper case (you do that under top menu->type->change case). Change colour if you want to and maybe change the blending mode in the effects window to “multiply” makes it even more sparkling. On numbers and ampersand for example, you have to use the glyph window in InDesign to find their second half.

The Sunshine Group is a series of four closely related fonts that combine a visual rendition of a bright noonday sun with Page No. 508, a wood type designed by William Hamilton Page of Norwich, Connecticut in 1887. Page No. 508 was released in a digital version by HiH and is available from Myfonts.com. Woody Sunshine is the simplest. The name alludes to its wood type roots. The sun shines on the upper case letters only (and the ampersand, which is considered lower case). Double Sunshine has the sun on both upper and lower case. Smiley Sunshine adds a smiley face to the first font. Double Smiley adds it to the second font. Warning: immoderate use of Double Smiley may expose the user to charges of overly aggressive cuteness. MVB Fantabular proves that monospaced faces needn’t be formal or bland. Inspired by the letterforms of older typewriters, Akemi Aoki designed a playful family of three weights with italics. With every character the same width MVB Fantabular works wherever a monospaced font is needed, but the face is so loose and carefree it hides its fixed pitch construction well, allowing it to be used in other settings too. MVB Fantabular Sans is the sans serif version of MVB Fantabular.

Trithemius, a 15th century Abbott, and influential counselor to Emperor Maximilian I, was also an author who wrote both histories and the first printed work on cryptography which gained him much adverse notoriety. He has been long regarded as a mystic and some of his works were therefore banned. However, it may have been his intention to cloak his cryptology essays in mystical writing to keep people from easily grasping the subject matter, which it has been recently demonstrated, at heart was really cryptological methodology. This font is based on a printed version of the Polygraphiae a text that included many methods of encryption.

The Duero is one of the major rivers of the Iberian Peninsula, flowing from its source across northern-central Spain and Portugal to its outlet at Porto. The "Duero viñatero", is an area of the Duero Valley where its famous wines are produced. "Duero", a new script font designed by Olcar Alcaide. Its slight bounce and intentional irregularity gives your words a wonderful flow. Arboria has been a long-term project. Starting with the commission of a custom ‘architect’ font, this typeface has been changing over the years to its current form, which is its public debut. The source is named after the capital of planet Mongo, a futuristic city with art decó influences in their buildings. Arboria maintains that tension but is influenced by all elements of concern to his author. The result is a hybrid Grotesque with nods to the XXII century. Arboria family consists of six weights and matching italics, aside from many characters (it covers Latin and CE languages), the wide range OpenType features allows Arboria to perform great as a text and as a display typeface. An entry in the Second Linotype Design Contest, Linotype Brewery, designed by Gustavs Andrejs Grinbergs, became part of the TakeType Collection in 1997. Brewery No 2 represents a significantly improved version of its precursor, and the typeface has been both extended and enhanced. When asked about prototypes, Grinbergs cites German typefaces of the early 20th century. It is thus not surprising that the characters of Brewery™ No 2 are based on geometrical forms. However, this is no mere synthetic Grotesque-derived typeface. It has significant contrasts in line thickness and triangular line terminals that are not unlike serifs, placing it in the middle ground somewhere between a Grotesque and serif font. The contrast between the features of a synthetic Grotesque and an Antiqua gives the characters of Brewery No 2 their distinctive charm and is the distinguishing attribute of this contemporary typeface. Additional vibrancy is provided by bevelled line endings (as in the case of the 'E' and the 'F'), the circular punctuation marks and the slight curve of the descending bar of the 'k'. Thanks to a generous x-height and its open counters, Brewery No 2 is also highly legible in small point sizes. Asphaltica is a geometric sans serif font. This is a universal font that can be used for both headings and paragraphs, thanks to the customized kerning for bold style. The typeface includes uppercase multilingual letters, numbers and punctuation. I've found the font to be great for logos, titles and I enjoy using it with really wide spacing. Grenville is part of the Staunton Script Family of fonts designed by Ted Staunton for his historic novel centered around a family bible and the handwritten annotation through seven generations. The Grenville font is a graceful Italique hand similar in style to the classic designs of Arrighi's Operina.

ITC Tabula is meant to be read. The design grew out of a study to create a font to set film subtitles. According to Julien Janiszewski, the face's Paris-based designer, “I set parameters for the design whereby the letters had to be able to hold up at very small sizes when set on film and yet must be able to be enlarged 2000 times to be read on a theatre screen.” The subtitle font was not completed, but several months later Janiszewski revisited the design and made a discovery. “I realized that the constraints I had established for the subtitling font was not that far from those people could have in creating typographic signage. Many time this calls for a font that can be used easily in very large sizes for headlines on highway billboards and quite small for text copy.” Work proceeded for two more years before Janiszewski was satisfied with the results. The final design is a somewhat squared sans serif family of four weighs with corresponding italics. Janiszewski also wanted to create what he calls a “sensitive sans-one that is not restricted to geometric shapes but has a subtle calligraphic, foundation.” ITC Tabula is not only easy to read, it is also a distinctive and handsome design.

While watching a 1920s Charlie Chaplin short film, Jeff Levine was taken with the unusually modern looking lettering of the title cards in that silent movie. The lettering was not only right for its time, but could also be adapted to both Art Deco and Techno applications. From this classic film comes the font Two Reeler JNL, a bit of yesterday with an eye toward the future.

Lusta plays with the interchangeability of an inline and an outline, negative and positive space. Often one single character will epitomise the design of a font, and here the S served as the conceptual starting point. The inline/outline was then applied to sans and serif variants, and extended into a multi-line prisma and an offset layered shadow version, probably inspired by Face Photosetting’s Stack.

The typeface LECO 1988 is another font family which belongs to LECO set. It is a display typeface, which is inspired by the title written on the bottle of lečo from 1988. Its typical features are embedded diacritics and significant black look with low contrast. Lower case is united with upper case and has several identical glyphs in both forms. Font contains alternative set of glyphs for letter „E“. Tabular numerals, superiors and inferiors and the full set of (glyphs - symbols) for languages using the Latin alphabet are also included in this font. LECO 1988 font family includes six specific styles: Regular, Blind, Gradient, Outline, Shadow and Stencil style. Those styles extend typographic options by mutual combination or overlapping, whilst every style share the identical metrics and kerning. Font format is Open Type with the support of several open type features. This typeface is suitable for creating logotypes, powerful posters or can be used as a headline display typeface.

In the 1934 edition of the American Type Foundry’s “Book of American Type” is a selection of letterpress fonts which emulate typewriter faces. One design named “Bulletin Typewriter” served at the model for Cub Reporter JNL, and is available in both regular and oblique versions. The font has been monospaced in order to add a more traditional typewriter look to any project.

Bigband was designed by Karlgeorg Hoefer in 1974. The font lends text a sense of unpredictablility and change due to the irregular design of the inner areas and outer contours of the characters.
