The challenge was to create a single typeface weight that was versatile enough without a large font family, and could be put to use with a variety of media formats, from book text to advertising spreads, all while remaining legible and delightful to read. Originally designed between the years 2002 and 2004, the inspiration for the design originated from the concepts of Stefano Giovannoni's uber-contemporary industrial designs and architecture. Where to start with such a font design was obvious to Diphthong Regular's designer, Max Hancock; to create a transitional, slab serif form that was corky and serious, interchangeably. The characteristics of the font followed a postmodern playfulness, popular in many sub-cultures looking for an alternative to the harsher, cut-shape, deconstructivist styles. And, the unique objective behind the design was to make it so that the usual difficult combination of the t and h (hth) in language was legible as well as pleasant to look at, thus the reason for the name. When they say everything’s already been invented, they’re exaggerating a bit. But not much. When we design new typefaces, whether we like it or not, we have in our memories the historical legacy and invention of our predecessors. That’s also true for more detailed work on optical sizes, intended for the largest or the smallest typesetting. Although for display sizes we give room for fantasy and elegance when shaping fine serifs or smooth drawings full of refined details, for styles designed for footnotes and other small texts we do the exact opposite – pragmatically and rationally, with knowledge of the optical properties of small text. And that’s precisely the case for the Tabac Micro subfamily, a sans-serif typeface derived from Tabac Sans.

I decided to draw the Regular style of Trivia Humanist not too light and the Bold not too dark. Delicate anatomy and moderate contrasts of serifed humanist typefaces aren’t usually born by interpolating between extremes, but rather by meticulous care for each individual letter. A delicious blend of a trace of punchcutter’s tool and calligrapher’s hand with as few historical reminiscences as possible. It stays away from any strong aesthetic colorations as well, which is a common feature of the Trivia family system. I wanted a clear and majestic typeface for book jackets, LP cover designs, posters, exhibition catalogues and shorter texts. But at the end it turned out excellent for largest books as well.

The origin story of HANLEY FONT COLLECTION all starts with the Script. We were designing logos and kept feeling like we needed a different kind of script, vintage feeling but not dated, and not too baseball-y or too formal. We couldn’t find exactly what we were looking for, so we decided to create it ourselves. After that we realized what we really wanted was good wood block looking lettering especially with small caps. And the collection just grew from there - a tall slim style, a monoline version of the script and of course a good sans. We topped off the group with a large selection of catchwords and extras with plenty of swirls, swashes and frames. Hanley has just enough irregularity to the edges to impart a human feel, but it’s still clean. Super versatile, all the styles work well together and can look authentically vintage or modern and hand-crafted.

The design of Cyan was inspired by features found in classic Roman and styles like Trajan and Bodebeck. The characters stay true to the same features as the capitals, resulting in an unusually distinctive style. The Capitals version contains Roman numerals. Cyan's weight is similar to Trajan's but the horizontal strokes are slightly bolder resulting in better legibility for small sizes, especially for lowercase characters. Cyan Sans evolved out of the hugely successful Cyan Serif family. Cyan Sans retains the same geometric Roman proportions with open centers in B,P,R b, d, p . This helps create a thick and thin stroke illusion since the actual strokes don't vary much. There are many subtle details in Cyan Sans that become more interesting in larger sizes. The beauty of Cyan Sans is that it has no features that "jar" the eye. The result is a very pleasing and distinctive sans that scales well. Cyan Sans is a robust font that will exceed expectations in areas never explored before. The name is inspired by the Greek word cyan, meaning "blue". Blue as a primary color that has many hues and uses. Cyan the font, we hope will be seen in a similar light. Obviously Cyan Sans is a perfect companion to the Cyan Serif family.

TagBanger WADE1 is the first in a short graffiti font series. This series will showcase the hand-styles of various mature street artists that Okaycat is working with. This first release highlights the style of one such graffiti writer, WADE1, who has an eclectic writing style after many years proliferating street art. Long-term graffiti artists develop their own style over their careers, spending as many endless hours honing their letter-forms as any full-time professional typographical artist. Style, individuality, and originality are everything. These attributes are key to the graffiti artist's tao. A writer who copies, or "bites" loses respect -- their work will be painted over or "crossed out" by all other writers. Okaycat's TagBanger series aims to demonstrate just how widely these individual styles can diverge, likely due, at least in part, to the social pressures of a community that ruthlessly punishes copycats. WADE1's tags were transformed into vector format from a generous sampling of their most recent scrawls. Our TagBanger series may not be composed of the most legible or beautiful fonts, but we imagine there are uses for these whenever highly unusual handwriting is needed. Dream Within a Dream was the title of exhibition of Czech art inspired by the work of Edgar Allan Poe curated by Otto M Urban and Veronika Hulíková. Three dozens of artists exhibited their works in the Czech National Gallery in 2020. The cataloguje was printed with the use of the present typeface. Artists took significant interest in Poe's literary oeuvre only after the writer's untimely death. This was mainly thanks to the poet Charles Baudelaire who translated Poe's works to French. As early as in the second half of the 19th century, prominent artists such as Edouard Manet, Odilon Redon, James Ensor and Gustave Doré created remarkable artworks inspired by Poe. Although the first Czech translations of Poe's woks date to the 1850s, artworks inspired by them only appeared several decades later, at the turn on the 20th century. Poe's poems and short stories inspired František Kupka and soon after him, Josef Váchal, Jan Konůpek and František Kobliha. Alfred Kubin, a German artist born in Bohemia, made illustrations for the German translation of Poe's collected stories. Later on, Alén Diviš and František Tichý created further Poe-inspired artworks. Poe was a source of inspiration for Jan Švankmajer and more recently, František Štorm and Jaroslav Róna.

Grafinc is fat, black and robust. It is a geometric-based display typeface that comes in two cuts: ExtraBlack and Rounded. Sabor is a voluptuous upright connected display font with mixed taste of script fonts. There were many inspirations for Sabor, but all started with a book from the 1950s about the battles of World War II. To that first sketches of a naive dense display typeface we, day by day, start to create a mixed style evolving some lettering concepts from 1950s, some calligraphy notions and the first display ideas. The feeling of this font is good to be used in many artworks, like logos, packaging, party invitations, layouts for t-shirts, magazine headings, and much more, since websites to and all kind of printed jobs. That font is not really a script, but, like the scripts we strongly recommends to use the caps only in the beginning of words and sentences, to contrast with the lower cases : it’s not designed for all-caps settings, so avoid that kind of use. This font has almost 700 glyphs and supports the most important Latin-based languages. We works hard in a tour-de-force kerning: over 12.000 kerning pairs soft adjusted handily.
