In 1905 Berthold released an engraved blackletter font called Prinzess Kupferstichschrift. Based on an old printed remnant, I revived this beautiful open-face fraktur and enriched it with several OpenType features. As usual in my blackletter fonts, the round ‘s’ lies on the number sign key, and a traditional number sign can be accessed via the Discretionary Ligature feature and typing 'N-r-period'. In this font you have also the possibility to turn I, V, X, L, C, D, and M into Roman numerals by activating the Stylistic Alternates feature. And last but not least, various useful ligatures polish up this font.

Thirteen or 14 years ago I admired, out loud, a book I found on a shelf in Matt Carter's office. That Christmas I was pleasantly surprised to find that Matt had found another copy of the book and he gave it to me. The book was about the life of Oswald Cooper and it contained numerous specimens of Cooper's lettering jobs. Among them was an interesting image of 7 letter that spelled out the word 'Robusto'. These letters were used as the model for the font Robusto. All I needed to do was develop 221 other glyphs to finish the font.

We designed Mrs White for our next book for children. We needed a clean script that would give a feeling of a primary school handwriting. Mrs White is filled with ligatures and contextual alternates which gives her very smooth line of text. Scripts shouldn't be used without lowercase letters so we added a small caps for headlines and acronyms. Check out the manual for more information on how to use Mrs White. The family of Tipografia Maracatu was born in 2020 when we could not leave the house because of the coronavirus epidemic. I had no idea how it would turn out. I just wanted to draw letters. When I finished the regular version, I thought it looked a lot like the art and music from the Northeast of Brazil, and that is why I came up with the name Maracatu. Maracatu is a musical-style original from the Northeast of Brazil. After I had the font style and the Regular version, I thought it would be nice to have Bold and Light.

The inspiration for Mimosa comes directly from the packaging for “Moulinard Jeune”, a line of French toiletries from the 1920s. I created the 240-odd glyphs needed to make up a complete font based upon the style of a handful of hand-lettered characters that were used on the original items. Mimosa is a mono-weight, connecting vertical script with a fairly regular set of lower case and slightly more decorative upper case glyphs. As with any decorative script, if you set copy in all caps, you will be tracked down and severely punished by the type police.
