Deconstructed JNL is another set of rubber stamp alphabet letters and numbers from a 1930s toy printing set. The original typeface of this set is Cheltenham Open. The stamps were printed out and scanned, creating this limited-character font with dual characteristics. At small point sizes it replicates inked rubber stamp impressions, but in larger format it shows angular lines and erratic character shapes as if made from cut paper or lettering that was intentionally made to look damaged.

Herb is based on 16th century cursive broken scripts and printing types. Originally designed by Tim Ahrens in the MA Typeface Design course at the University of Reading, it was further refined and extended in 2010. The idea for Herb was to develop a typeface that has the positive properties of blackletter but does not evoke the same negative connotations – a type that has the complex, humane character of fraktur without looking conservative, aggressive or intolerant.

Broadside is a versatile, authoritative and functional family inspired by the sans serifs seen on ’40s and ’50s patriotic posters and period advertising. It is available in seven weights across condensed, normal and extended widths, each with reweighed italics. The type from this period was very often hand-drawn, and so differs considerably from poster to poster. Many American examples of this period use a Photo-Lettering style called Murray Hill and its derivatives, although their UK counterparts, designed by such luminaries as Abram Games or Tom Eckersley, are more stylistically diverse. Even though no single model is available to base a digitisation on, there are certain recurring stylistic quirks that give the type its unique flavour, and so the most interesting examples from several sources were be combined for the final family. Alternate short descenders, allowing for tighter line spacing, can be toggled on or off in the Opentype panel of Indesign or Illustrator. This smear of implicit history expressed without explicit reference—this is Stamen: a family of 12 typefaces with a ton of alternate characters. The bold weight was designed for the LP “I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler” ( http://ittfwbc.com/ ) by the band YACHT in response to their request for a typeface that was ‘lost in time’, and refers to neither strict historical models nor purely futuristic forms. I built a small family out from there. It works well in text, but just as well for display setting. I think you’ll enjoy using it.

Fishmonger originated from a commission of two fonts for the corporate identity of a fishmonger shop. When sketching the elementary principles for the lettering, the idea for a modern, extensive font family with a large number of styles was born. The first step consisted of defining the range of widths and weights. Then the master design Medium Regular was completed. The next step was adjusting the Extra Condensed Thin, the Extra Condensed Bold, The Extra Extended Thin and the Extra Extended Bold weights, as they are the vertices of an imaginary square map of the face. This meant that, in order to achieve a harmonious result, the x and y axis needed to be defined. From top to bottom, from the widest to the most condensed cut, the proportions are linear. However, from light to black, the line curves gently, allowing lesser difference between the light cuts, and a dramatic one between the heavier cuts. To ensure the original parameters were respected each position on the vertex was checked against the Medium Regular. After sorting out the ideal set-up, the remaining characters of each of the weights were drawn, and the remaining cuts were interpolated according to the principles above. Fishmonger is a functional, clean design, free of any buoyant, ornamental shapes, almost minimalist. Maybe this is what lends the type family its unique appearance.

Lettering found on the cover of the 1923 song "I Love Me (I'm Wild About Myself)" can take on various graphical possibilities. Although its design is Art Nouveau in concept, it is somewhat reminiscent of the "bubble letters" most school kids used to doodle on notebook and portfolio covers; yet the lettering style also evokes the 1960s-70s Hippie movement. As a sidebar, a couple of lines from the song's lyrics were used by Jeff Levine's late mother to chastise him as a youth when he got "a little too full of himself". The lyrics were: "I love me! I love me! I'm wild about myself! I love me! I love me! My picture's on the shelf!"

Brolly Fight is a fun, slim line font with off-kilter lines. I had so much fun creating this one! It has a stick figure art deco feel. 1913 Typewriter Carbon is the bold version of GLC foundry's 1913 Typewriter. It is available in two styles: Normal, and Underlined (Bold). It is a complete alphabetic font. It is used as variously as web-site titles, posters design or books editing. It may be preferable, if possible, when printing, to choose a pale color - dark grey instead of heavy black, for exemple - to give a good appearance, just like the real one, and still benefit from the full details. With inkjet printers, it may be used the economic or draft option with a good result too. The old typewriter characters size is 11 or 12 points, but this font supports easily enlargement.

Humanist on one hand, geometric wannabe on the other Born from the need of having a custom font for our own branding, Redonda became too big to keep just for us. Like that, came to light Plau's 10th retail font, the first one designed by Carlos Mignot. The font's personality is a result of a search for extreme impact. Having started out as a exclusively Black geometric face, it became a full, versatile humanist sans. Maria Martina Schmitt was born in Vienna, Austria in 1950. Since 1998, she has been working as a freelance designer, focusing on cultural collateral, economic publications, illustration, type design, and logo design. This font came to be when I was creating a cake topper mockup (see the promo images) and didn't have a thick script font that I liked for it. So I got to work writing out some fun chunky cursive letters that could top a cake! The concept of breaking bread is an old one, often meaning two parties working together. Press Gothic is a revival of Aldo Novarese's Metropol typeface, released by Nebiolo in 1967 as a competitor to Stephenson Blake's Impact (designed by Goeffrey Lee). Though Metropol enjoyed a few short months of popularity and use in Italy, Germany and France, Impact won the technological outlasting battle by moving on to film type then to computer outlines bundled with mainstream software, while Metropol never made it past the metal state until now.
