Hello Buena - From Wood to Digital Type Buena is the first word I read on a letterpress paper, printed by my colleague and friend Wolfgang Wick. I was fascinated by the power of this fat wooden letters at first glance. So I started to create a digital version of it and »Buena Black« was born. Due to the fact that the original punches had only upper- case glyphs, I created the lowercase characters by myself. After that it was time to design the family... Buena is full of OpenType features. Sticks was originally designed as a custom logo for a sour gummy candy. It was then expanded to a full font, with numbers, symbols, foreign accents, and even a few ligatures. Designed for "Milano Kalibro Kobe" a Nike advertising campaign. A geometric font inspired by b-movie typography. The glyphs were designed using an unusual method: at a glance it seems a drafted design but if you look closely you will discover how much the geometry is complex.
