This is the design that was always on the drawer. I designed it when I was bored of designing other typefaces, there was no briefing, I just wildly played with the bezier tool. It was something to relax from more serious work, so it feels like a very funny and smiling design. Genica mixes various styles creating a display type with lots of personality.

Matryoshka is a display layering type family which is inspired by the Russian wooden doll. The family contains eight different weights from XXS (thin) to XXL (fat) + Pregnant (all in one). The design is based on an elaborate and complex grid, so each font fits perfectly into the other. With the Matryoshka family the typographer can create millions of new solutions. Play with it!

Fusion Slab was developed based on Fusion Sans Pro, as an amalgamation of traditional early nineteenth-century letters. Fusion Slab is a family of 3 weights with very tall x-height which is suitable for long headlines. On the other hand, its ascenders and descenders are extremely short so text lines can be set with a very low leading value. It provides support for Latin and Greek.

There is not much I can tell about Isolde. It is a plain typeface, rather wide and with dominant serifs. Its italics are more slanted than usual. In fact only Caslon's italic can compete about that. Its width makes it more suitable for decorations than for larger amounts of text. The name comes from the medieval tale about Tristan and Isolde. Isolde was released in 1993.

Oculi Magni is a new sans serif type family of 8 weights with italics. This font was specially designed for the composition of texts in small size as captions or footnotes but the thin and black weights can also be used in display sizes. The x-height, as tall as possible, allows the composition of very tight, very dense texts while maintaining a perfect readability.

Dapplegrim is a Norwegian fairytale collected by Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe in their book ‘Norske Folkeeventyr’. The story is about a boy who inherits a big horse (called Dapplegrim, or Grimsborken in Norwegian) and sets off to rescue the king’s daughter from a nasty troll. Dapplegrim is a handmade fairytale font. Use it for your book covers, product packaging and fairytale collections!

One of the classic designs of the wood type era is Hamilton Gothic Bold [from the Hamilton Wood Type Foundry circa 1889]. Pisang Manis means ‘sweet banana’ in Bahasa Indonesia. I don’t think this particular combination is used in everyday life, but it sounds nice. Pisang Manis is based on an older font of mine, called Pisang, which I created in 2013. It looks similar, but it is a different font altogether. Pisang Manis is a ‘Tall & Thin’ display font, ideally used for product packaging, websites and book covers.

This is an American face designed by Lucian Bernhard for ATF in 1929. An extra light face with tall ascenders and stylized bars that extend off to the left. The initials ASM represent the acronym of the Santa Monica Arts cultural center located in Barcelona, Spain, where this typeface, with the same name, has served as the custom corporate typeface since 2008 till today (2013). My eldest son Sam always wanted to visit Japan and he has been saving up for a ticket for years now. We should have traveled there this year, but due to the pandemic, that was impossible. We’re now trying to go next year. Sam and I did make some kind of itinerary and I told him how we were going to get around, as I have been to Japan many times. I told him about the Shinkansen trains, the cute Tram in Nagasaki and the immense subway system in Tokyo. One of the lines in Tokyo is the so-called Yamanote Circle Line, which I have used on numerous occasions. A new font name was born and it stuck to this particular font! Subway Circle is a 100% handmade font. It is rounded, slightly slanted and comes with a sunny disposition. I am sure that, when you use it, you will find your 生きがい… ;-)
