For everyone wishing for a modern serif that’s as clear and readable as a sans in restrictive digital environments, meet Portada by Veronika Burian and José Scaglione. Sans serifs are commonly used on small screens to save space and carry a modern tone. Serifs may appear fickle and unsteady, pixel grids change from one product to another, and space is at a premium. Portada now provides a serif option for these restrictive digital environments, putting that old trope to rest. The screen has met its serif match. Portada was created from and for the digital world — from e-ink or harsh grids to Retina capability — making it one of the few serifs of its kind. Portada’s text and titling styles were engineered for superlative performance, making great use of sturdy serifs, wide proportions, ample x-height, clear interior negative space, and its subservient personality. After all, words always take priority in text. It’s not all business, though. Portada’s italics contain an artefact of calligraphy in which the directionality of the instrokes and the returning curves of the outstrokes give the family a little unexpected brio. Akagi started as a rough sketch while on a really long plane ride to Tokyo in 2007. I wanted to develop a sans that was a complete departure from my successful Aaux Pro (now Aaux Next) sans serif family. Whereas Aaux and its siblings are rather unforgiving and stark in their presentation, I wanted this new sans serif to "smile" at you when it's on the page. When the plane landed and I realized I did not sleep through the 15 hour trip, my brain shut off, the laptop closed and I hopped in the car to the hotel—forgetting the "new sans" folder on my desktop. Fast forward a few months and I found myself seeing a lot of crisp, rigid, robot-like sans serif typefaces everywhere... I enjoy these new crop of faces but wanted to see something "friendlier" and remembered my earlier sketch work. The groundwork was there screaming at me to complete and Akagi arose from the ashes. To be truly satisfied with it personally, a great deal of time was spent trying to create a harmony between line and curve in an attempt to show that you can be crisp, clean and legible and still keep some personality. The Light and Fat weights (regular and italic) are my favorites and I hope to see them as the workhorses of the typeface.

Legere is a slim, light and decorative font, based on the idea to work as close as possible on the geometric forms of the circle, the triangle and the square. As a natural conclusion the number of angles is limited. Legere comes in these weights: THIN, LIGHT, REGULAR and a very special DECO version. Legere might be used as a headline font, for posters or cover layout, it might also be transformed into that fashion label logotype you are working on. Have fun!

A font designed in the style of vintage stencil show-cards. Uses bold chunky geometric shapes to form characters. This font is great for creating titles for books and products.

Kanji OC is a latin font with a kanji character in place of each letter. The key chart in the gallery section shows the relationship between keyboard keys and kanji.

Images of ‘lost’ or forgotten signs from the past are on a number of sites all over the web. One in particular partially revealed a vintage sign for “J. Yormark Shoes" behind a barbershop sign at 15 – 8th Avenue in New York City. The sign remained until 2014. The stencil effect made by the formation of the stained glass letters inspired On Your Mark JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions. The font’s name is a play on the shoe vendor’s name… “Yormark”.

By any stretch of the imagination, Yorso Square JNL is an imperfect font...by design! Taking a page from the elementary school projects of years past, this sans serif face is square and blocky... looking as if it was manually constructed in haste with a ruler and pencil - just as a student might do for a book report cover, science fair project or class poster. If you need a type face that shows the innocence of youth, or possibly a bit of urban audacity - Yorso Square JNL is your choice of lettering!

Thima is a display font inspired by the liberty style revisited to the present day, hence it is free from the canonical compositional standards that make up the majority of fonts. Its elegant shapes are available in two versions: solid and outline. Thima’s unique features are enhanced by the perfect fusion between irregular and fluid shapes that coexist with right angles. Despite being a display font, the lowercase version is suitable for short and long paragraphs of text, while for large titles the uppercase shows off all its potential.

The Ehrhardt name indicates that this typeface is derived from the roman and italic typefaces of stout Dutch character that the Ehrhardt foundry in Leipzig showed in a late-seventeenth-century specimen book. The designer is unknown, although some historians believe it was the Hungarian Nicholas Kis. Monotype recut the typeface for modern publishers in 1937 to 1938. Ehrhardt has a clean regularity and smooth finish that promote readability, as well as a slight degree of condensation, especially in the italic, that conserves space. Ehrhardt is a fine text face, especially for books.

Versatile egg-shaped Huevo, like all Burghal Design fonts, includes upper and lower case letters, as well as numbers, symbols, punctuation, and accented foreign characters. Huevo is the head of the household known as Los Huevos. Tequila-guzzling, cerveza-swilling Huevo Loco is the boldest of Los Huevos and includes cocktail glass, olive, and eight ball dingbats. Huevo Loco can drink any other font under the table. Like most red-blooded American fonts, the favorite pastimes of Huevo Gordo are eating and couch warming, and boy, does it show!

Crop is the guy who works till 3am, striving for greatness. Crop is the one in the gym at six in the morning, pushing harder every time. Taking no for an answer, just isn't part of the deal. Crop is the one with fire in his heart and eye intense enough to achieve the unthinkable. If you've never stopped pushing boundaries, if you think second place isn't worth getting out of bed for, if you can stand on the top of the world and ask, 'What's next?' - Crop might just be the one for you!

Attempting to marry the warm friendliness of the Cubano typeface with the versatility, functionality, and geometry of Eurostile has resulted in Cubenzis. After finishing the regular weight, I realized that it reminded me of old Soviet military hardware, something you might see on the outside of a tank or rocket, so i made the decision to include a full Cyrillic alphabet as well. It feels very sci-fi to me and i can imagine it being used as signage on a ship or as a warning label on machinery.

Designed by Malou Verlomme of the Monotype Studio, Macklin is a superfamily, which brings together several attention-grabbing styles. Macklin is an elegant, high contrast typeface that demands its own attention and has been designed purposely to enable brands to appeal more emotionally to modern consumers. Macklin comprises four sub-families —Sans, Slab, Text and Display— as well as a variable. The full superfamily includes 54 fonts with 9 weights ranging from hairline to black. The concept for Macklin began with research on historical material from Britain and Europe in the beginning of the 19th century, specifically the work of Vincent Figgins. This was a period of intense social change--the beginning of the industrial revolution. A time when manufacturers and advertisers were suddenly replacing traditional handwriting or calligraphy models and demanding bold, attention-grabbing typography. Typographers experimented with innovative new styles, like fat faces and Italians, and developed many styles that brands and designers continue to use today, such as slabs, serifs, and sans serifs. Verlomme pays respect to Figgins’s work with Macklin, but pushes the family to a more contemporary place. Each sub family has been designed from the same skeleton, giving designers a broad palette for visual representation and the ability to create with contrast without worrying about awkward pairings. With Macklin, Verlomme shows us it’s possible to create a superfamily that allows for complete visual expression without compromising fluidity.

Marin, a name that is associated with water and ships, looks very confident and follows the ideas of Eurostile, but in a stencil design. Marin was designed for the URW++ FontForum.

Seasick and Seasick-Mirror features wobbly, wavy, distorted letters. They were derived from the almost monoline font Kwersity. The letters of Seasick have a slight backward slant and the letters of SeasickMirror have a slight forward slant. Each of them comes in four weights: Light, Regular, Bold, and ExtraBold.

The Chaplin font is a light-hearted script created for display purposes. Chaplin leans slightly to the right. Used for packaging and posters, the Chaplin font has a relaxed charm.

the rounded font is a slight condensed and fun rounded typeface that comes in three weights: light, regular & bold. all letters are designed in the same line thickness. the fun way that the characters flow makes the font a useful but also unique typeface to use. it works great as both body text and headers. especially when you use the different weights in the right way. as graphic designer sven pels often deletes the dots of both the i’s en j’s to make it unique but also just to break some rules… svenpels.com instagram.com/svenpels

“Kamenica” - named after a beautiful small mountain river in Serbia - is a font family containing 3 weights: Light, Regular and Bold. The Kamenica river is only a few meters wide. Mostly shallow and cold, clear and green, it was the direct inspiration source for the creation of this condensed typeface. As our other typefaces, “Kamenica” also combines traditional shapes with modern forms, tall x-height and a collection of more than 300 glyphs. Comparing the river with the font, we could say that letters are the fishes that lives in the Kamenica river and that the font weights are the seasons in which this river shows most of its own character.
