Louis is a faithful digital rendition and expansion of a design called Fanfare, originally drawn by Louis Oppenheim in 1927. Redrawn digitally by Rod MacDonald, and engineered in-house by Canada Type, Louis includes the many alternates that came with the original design, and then some. It was also expanded into three variations, including a soft-cornered style, and a rough woodcut one. And of course, the codepage support covers the majority of Latin-based languages.

PT Quadrat Grotesk™ was designed for ParaType in 2001 by Vladimir Pavlikov. An expanded sans serif with square letterforms due to what the face was named. Based on the shapes of one of old Russian wooden types. Wooden types were used for placard display composition at large sizes. Their printouts retained wooden texture and traces of handling. These features are reflected in the shapes of Quadrat Grotesk. It is a good typeface for display and advertising typography.

Aesop was developed from some book jacket lettering drawn by Michael Harvey for an edition of Aesop’s Fables by a master Japanese Artist. Prumo is a new type system, based on a unique skeleton that flows, like a pendulum, from high contrast to low contrast. It’s a sort of typographic journey, from the 18th century typefaces to the 19th century slab serif typefaces, gathering information from the Scotch Roman fonts on its journey. The LifeAfterCollege family began as a set of four fonts based on two styles of Ranger, which are slab-serif, geometric fonts with no curves. Two of the four are outlines with hollow insides, and two have-filled insides. The two fonts that are outlined have been taken apart and made into three typeface that can be layered. This allows one color for the inside, another for the middle ring, and a third for the outside outline.

ITC Stylus is the work of American designer Dennis Pasternak, who based its forms on those of freehand architectural lettering from historical and contemporary sources. Pasternak points out that while the typeface emulates hand lettering, no pencil drawings or scanned art were used in its creation. The letters bounce slightly across the baseline, giving the typeface the look of true handwriting. ITC Stylus emanates warmth when used for extended text and a fresh quality in display sizes.

This font has been developed based on the engraving by the German artist Daniel Hopfer (1470-1536) listing the Latin ABC. While creating the font I tried to preserve the archaism and certain imperfection characteristic for the prototype to accentuate its charm. Fanciful convolution on the serif make it a bit fairy-tale like and cheerful. The font is also available with decorated dots as in the original version. All the letters in the font are capital.

The typeface DIN Mittel, offered by Elsner+Flake, is based on the DIN 1451 used in Germany since 1931. The DIN 1451 which was primarily seen in the areas of technology and traffic had to adhere to the so-called DIN Norms. Variations of the DIN 1451 are also employed in Austria, Eastern Europe, Greece and the Near East. With its new release Elsner+Flake has expanded the DIN Mittel with the characters EuropaPlus and Cyrillic.

Ben Harris' illustrated cover for the sheet music of "I Found A Million Dollar Baby (in a Five and Ten Cent Store)" from 1931's "Billy Rose's Crazy Quilt" lists the show's stars and other credits in a pen lettered monoline design with rounded terminals. This early Art Deco type style has now become the digital font Variety Store JNL (a reference to the Five and Ten Cent stores alluded to in the song title from the sheet music).

Frederic Goudy designed National Old Style Roman in 1916. It is loosely based on a logo he lettered for the National Biscuit Company in 1901. Steve Matteson expanded on Goudy’s original by designing a bold, semibold and matching italics. While much of Goudy’s work is strongly influenced by Venetian types of the 15th and 16th centuries - this design has a truly American quality about it.
