Designed by Malou Verlomme of the Monotype Studio, Macklin is a superfamily, which brings together several attention-grabbing styles. Macklin is an elegant, high contrast typeface that demands its own attention and has been designed purposely to enable brands to appeal more emotionally to modern consumers. Macklin comprises four sub-families —Sans, Slab, Text and Display— as well as a variable. The full superfamily includes 54 fonts with 9 weights ranging from hairline to black. The concept for Macklin began with research on historical material from Britain and Europe in the beginning of the 19th century, specifically the work of Vincent Figgins. Confitería is the Spanish word for a shop where sweets and chocolates are made and sold, which sometimes has a tea room. And now Confitería is also a font that brings to mind lettering piped on delicate cakes ... sweet but never sickly. This font captures something of that simple and innocent beauty of traditional confiterías, where good manners will never go out of fashion, menus are elegant and time comes to a standstill to make way for life’s little pleasures. Fushar Arabic is a bold comic color font family which comes in 5 layer-styles easy to compose in a multicolor manner and 3 OpenType-SVG color styles to make the work faster and easier. Character set covers Latin A-Z all caps, Arabic, Persian and Urdu with 230 ligatures, European, Arabic and Persian / Urdu localized digits, punctuation, currencies and other symbols - the total of 729 glyphs. The idea came from a custom logotype I made several years ago for a local charity organisation that helps children. The logotype was based on bold letters with light that make the "balloon" effect visible in "Holes" style. Many times, when a new creative process is starting, it is triggered by an everyday action or item. In this case, the looks of a lady’s watch inspired Michael Herold to create his new typeface LUX. The sight of the chronograph sparked associations of the 1950s in Mr. Herold: While this decade was predominantly dominated by brush and feather scripts, there was also a bloom of strict and modern architecture. This special mix of strength and retro style is exactly what Michael Herold is trying to capture in his LUX. The result is a typeface which is perfectly suitable for use on book covers, posters and claims – thanks to its striking impression. The name LUX, Latin for light, is inspired by the high bright-dark contrast within the individual characters. Condell Bio is part of the bigger Condell family: a project that involves series of typographies and whose early conception and development began in 2006. Unlike its Poster version , with its excessive and eccentric forms, Condell Bio tries to adapt itself to a monolinear shape, but conserving at the same time the organic character of its forms and endings. In this way Condell Bio is able to expanse its typographical use fields to a vaster scale. Condell’s endings and organic strokes haven’t been conceived in a structural way but stylistically. This means that Condell’s high readability doesn’t change and its original personality and idiosyncrasy as well. Condell can be said the ideal typography for connoting the corporation and brand identity, because of its high readability; especially its “eatable” forms, who collects images of food, are easily adaptable to food industry. Condell is highly recommended for the following products groups: cleansers, dish soaps, toothpastes, all sorts of personal hygiene products (shampoos, soaps,..), industrial cleanser products and also for products which refer to its softness, volatility and smoothness. Milton Glaser on designing Babyfat: “This is the first alphabet I ever designed. For some inexplicable reason I called it Babyfat. Because I’m not a type designer, most of my alphabets are actually novelties or graphic ideas expressed typographically. Here the idea was to take a gothic letter and view it simultaneously from two sides. It started out as a rather esoteric letterform; it ended up being used in supermarkets for ‘Sale’ signs.” This forced perspective 3-D font has appeared on many LP covers and posters from the mid 1960s onward. This revival includes the original lowercase for the first time in digital form. Besides the three original styles (Outline, Shaded, and Black) made for photo typesetting, the new P22 Glaser Babyfat introduces six additional variations to allow the user to easily colorize the type as Glaser envisioned. The Keyline, Fill, Glyph, Left, Right, and Down font styles give the user nearly infinite options to create dynamic chromatic effects. P22 Glaser Babyfat was based on original drawings and phototype proofs from the Milton Glaser Studios archives. Typographic punctuation and sorts were imagined by James Grieshaber to work with Glaser’s design, as well as diacritics to accommodate most European languages. Inka is the name by which the closest-ones called my partner. Inka is also the name of a text typeface – in its form very friendly and welcoming. The same way as relationships develop through the life, text typefaces develop, too. I had started the work on this typeface about the same time as I met Inka, while reaching the final output has been a long and progressive process. Inka is a modern serif typeface with wide universality in functions (various editorial usages as books, magazines, annual reports…). The concept and the scope of the complete type family are based on the principle of optical sizes of the typeface designed for the particular use of the size of typesetting. Inka consists of several drawing variations for the typesetting of small sizes (Small), text typesetting (Text), larger typesetting sizes (Title), and headlines sizes (Display). Two constructive alternatives, differing in the height of the construction of the font signs, further extend the variability of the usage of the typeface. Inka A has classical proportions ideal for book typesetting. Inka B has lower ascenders and descenders, lower uppercase glyphs and numbers. Typeface with such construction allows us to use the typesetting efficiently while using tighter leading and still looking more contemporary. Our eye is able to join missing parts of worn letters back into undisturbed shapes. We tend to see things better than they really are. Thanks to this ability we ignore faults of those close to us as we can’t accept the fact that every once in a while we convene with an impaired entity. Typography is merely a man’s invention, hence imperfection and transience, albeit overlooked, are its key features. This typeface is based on worn-out letterings on tombstones in the St. Croce basilica in Florence. For hundreds of years, microscopic particles of marble are being taken away on the soles of visitors: the embossed figures become fossilised white clouds, fragments of inscriptions are nearing the limits of legibility. First missing are thin joins and serifs, then the main strokes finally slowly diminish into nothingness over time. Unlike an archaeologist, for whom even completely featureless stele is valuable, the typographer must capture the proper moment of wear, when the type is not too “new” but also not too much decimated. Such typeface is usable for catalogue jackets, invitations and posters. Calligraphy is a natural human trait. To write is to create characters of reasonable beauty and content, according to the nature of the writer. A natural characteristic of architecture is to create an aesthetic message very similar to the alphabet. A doric column, the gabled roof, the circle of the well plan: these are the basic shapes from which all text typeface is derived.

Mi negra is a funny and hilarious typography designed especially for children, thought and created by Isabel de Gregorio. It could be described as an original combination between a semi-handwright and semi sans-serif font. Thanks to its structure and nice endings "Mi Negra" is recommended for composing short texts (logotypes, packing, posters, etc.). It may similarly be used for illustrations and comics, as well as in printing press works for children from 6 to 13 years old for instance. Mi Negra has been conceived to be a useful support in all kinds of illustrations works (please note that Isabel, the type designer, considers herself primarily an illustrator). The font designer of Mi Negra tells that every time she needed to provide some text data (i.e. in children infographies) and needed to make them more understandable and suitable for children, she used this typography. The former idea was than to create a font who could be a second option to comic sans, but as the project started to reveal its forms, it was clear that it was revealing another connotation and its own character. In this way, Mi Negra went on modifying its forms and the more it developed, the more it was showing its new characteristics and concepts. The family is composed of three weighs: Light, regular and black. It provides also interesting functional ligatures. It also includes a dingbat with nice doggies. It has 434 characters and can work with 208 languages.

The Jazayeri Kufic Shoushtar font is a beautiful typographic implementation of the decorative Kufic calligraphy inscribed on the walls of the historic Grand Mosque of Shoushtar in southwestern Iran. This mosque contains many other inscriptions added over time for documentary purposes but its four monumental Kufic inscriptions which are revived in this font are the most essential ones to understand its design and meaning. Built in the ninth century CE, this mosque is one of the earliest hypostyle mosques in Iran. It was built in “the city of scholars” when its residents included two great Sufis, Sahl Ibn Abdullah Tostari and Mansur Hallaj. The designer and producer of the font is Seyed Mohammad Vahid Mousavi Jazayeri, a well-known Iranian master calligrapher, designer, scholar, and author. Mousavi Jazayeri has taken a personal interest in the Kufic script and devoted years to independent research, visiting archaeological locations, historic buildings and cemeteries, mosques, libraries and museums to study the script through direct contact. He has developed a systematic research methodology and published his findings in several books. His professional interest in script and calligraphy stimulated his discovery of the historic method for cutting the Kufic pen, which has had a direct impact on his own work, as seen in several well-received exhibitions and workshops. Francesco Canovaro designed Asgard as a way to mix his passion for the raw energy of extra bold sans serif typography with the expressivity of high contrast and calligraphy-inspired letterforms. More delicate and meticulous, Aphrodite Slim Pro is once more a new typography with deep calligraphic ideals: We immersed ourselves into the world of each calligraphy ductus and each calligraphy masters by studying from decoration to lettering books. This was the key for the logic of Aphrodite Slim’s behavior. The new concept of Aphrodite Slim Pro was to join diverse styles of calligraphy in one in order to achieve an autonomous expressiveness, in fact, this is what calligraphy aims to, and we agreed to bring those ideals to the world of typography: It is justifiable to be inspired in hundred-year-old calligraphies, but it is even better if the results you obtain have a plus. A personal plus. During the creation process we were wondering whether it was possible to mix certain strokes of such rigid styles as uncial, (Li·n’s favourite style), with strokes of the copperplate, (Sav’s favourite style), and also to take and mix cualities of cancelleresca cursiva, formata and moderna; finally giving our creation a roman-transition italic look. So Aphrodite Slim takes ideals and aspects from those formal styles, following its own logic though, and emphasizing the fact of being a decorative typography. Calligraphy masters of our past are who we are in debt with. They are the cause we have lovely letters now. They have been spontaneous at the moment of creation, what differs from the type-designers of nowadays, whose spontaneity is more limited. Digital faces that we are used to see these days are a result of long hours of optical adjustments, grids, macros and inspirations of other existing typography, but without personal contributions. Aphrodite Slim wants to refute this. Its mission is to rescue de spontaneity of the artesanal lettering in order to obtain unique words; those which only calligraphy masters of our past or lettering artists of our present could give us. We have worked hard to achieve this, making Aphrodite the most universal font we could: It was necessary to study the most common words, focalizing more in the ones referring to “sensitivity”, of four of the most spoken languages in the world. Aphrodite Slim has an enormous quantity of decorative characters and special ligatures for phrases and words in English, French, Spanish and German. We promise there is no existing type that decorates/ligates glyphs and words like Aphrodite Slim does: It is the first time a font like this really considers its purpose. -The way glyphs are ligated is insane- : Aphrodite Slim rescues some ideals of persons like Jan van den Velde (Italian cancilleresca writing of XVI Century) who understands ascenders and descenders as possibilities to beautify the lines of writing with curved strokes that seem to be dancing above and below of the words. This master also creates ascenders and descenders even where they are not necessary, on letters that do not actually need them: Aphrodite Slim takes this ideal. Many believe that this reinforces the argument that there is a divine intelligence back of creation. With that in mind, I thought it would be interesting to see if I could somehow create a font using these numbers in the design process. If I have succeeded - even partially - in attaining these mystical proportions, it will definitely have been worth all the hard work.
