Lower-case lettering is so-called because the characters that we know as lower-case were once kept in the bottom, shallow drawers of a type compositor's typecase. It’s a brand new year, but I have been going back in time. To the seventies to be precise. A ‘bubblegum’ font was on the top of my to-do list, so when it was finally finished, it reminded me of seventies posters. As if by magic, a catchy bassline started playing in my head and before I knew it, Boney M appeared - all dressed up in Purple and singing Daddy Cool. Cool Daddy is a fat, rounded bubblegum font, which will take you back to the decade of moustaches, afros and glitter. This ultra groovy font will funk up your designs 4-sho. So boogie on, take it back to your crib and get down with it. You diggin’?

At home we have a wood stove. Last year, I bought a whole bunch of tree trunks, which I cut up with a chainsaw and then chopped with my Swedish axe. In Holland we have a saying that firewood keeps you warm three times: when you cut the tree, when you chop the wood and when you burn it in the stove. Our stove is rather small, so it is not exactly a blazing furnace, but I liked the name because it seems to fit this font. Blazing Furnace was made with ink and a brush. It is a bit messy and rough, but it comes with multilingual support and a nice set of alternates for the lower case letters.

Bourgeois Rounded is built upon the framework of Bourgeois, our popular geometric type family. As with the sans-serif Bourgeois Rounded letterforms are contemporary in look and feel. Echoing late 20th century modernism in style, Rounded’s overall look is clean and sleek, more ephemeral and dynamic than Bourgeois’s pared-down asceticism. The Rounded’s place in the history of font is a complex one. Being lauded for their legible characteristics and also at the same time their fashionable qualities, looking ultramodern and nostalgic, readable and highly stylised, authoritative and playful. Bourgeois Rounded and Rounded Condensed when combined, offer 24 styles suited for text of all kinds and sizes. A reminder of the days of flower power, Satron is quite a bit different, slightly hippy and slightly grungy. Although it is not in any way an attempt to emulate the fonts used in that era, it evokes the mood of the time. There's two different shapes making up each character, with a grungy black one in front of a hippy white one. The combined effect however is quite novel and modern. There's also a jumbled version with the letters rotated and whacked around, in case you want it funky-flavored. There's all the main characters plus lots of extra accented letters as well. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions on the same machine.

Garnet is a rare TT typewriter face, made digital from analog samples gathered with great care by Coniglio Type. A time and place; type and life. Garnet Euro Typewriter is the first new release by designer Joseph V Coniglio in over 5 years. It is contemporary designer type, made from the struck steel hammers of an art deco san serif face transferred from a mechanical 1926 Royal Portable typewriter. It has an obsessively complete commercial roman character set ––for the pre-opentype environment of the late 1990's. Yes, it has that great “Monopoly Game” question mark -- and all on a period-piece typewriter! You should have no trouble grafting that sorely needed Euro symbol.” –And he very well did!

House of Cards is inspired by and based on retro Hamilton’s Teniers typeface which is popular wooden type fonts of the 19th century. To make natural and contemporary impressions, the original lowercase design was slightly changed from the original but all glyphs had been designed carefully to be retro-looking of the old time and to fill all with nostalgia. This modern wood type includes 2 weights and their matching italic style and all style have sprayed ends(beginning) alternates for F, H, P, U, f, h, m, n, t, u, and w which can be accessed by using OpenType Stylistic alternates or swash alts. House of Cards will be the best solution for posters, titles and anywhere you need vintage lettering.

Wisdom Teeth is the fifth typeface released by DM Founts. It's a modern and personal take on the original Baby Teeth font by Milton Glaser, and inspired by the lettering used for the Pac-Man series of games (and its clones). This typeface was around 25 years in the making, and was made in response to the large number of hideously bad clones of Baby Teeth circulating around the Internet. Version 1.0 Included in Version 1.0 are a number of accent characters, and alternate characters for A and Y, along with the usual ASCII characters. For the time being this is an all caps typeface. Edito is a completely new bodycopy font. The special thing about this font is, that all serifs have the same height. So no matter if you take the thinnest cut (A) or the fattest (F), you will always have aligning serifs. I started Edito as an experiment. I tried to enhance the classic and sturdy Times font. But I soon dicovered, that it would be more efficient to take only the basic idea behind Times (the robust design) and start from scratch. It turned out a real solid and useful typeface for everyday use. In due time I will add a couple of extra cuts. Yours in a journalistic mood Gert Wiescher

Afterglow JNL is another variation of Jeff Levine's wood type font Twelve Oaks JNL; this time with an array of sparkling stars.

This monospaced version of Galix was commissioned in 2037 by the space exploration company Earth2, as part of a major overhaul of their branding, which had used, since 2021, a generic sans serif (much like every other company). Many specialists in both design and space exploration suggested that this very rebrand started a chain of events that concluded with the invention of time travel in 2041. Contrary to the perceived notion put forward in popular Science Fiction, time travel is only (as of now) possible in the digital realm. It was considered fitting that included among the first files sent back in time should be the Galix Mono typeface, which was remade in OTF format to ensure that it would work with the technology available in 2019. Earth2, for all their insight, did not foresee that the release of the typeface in September of 2019, would lessen the impact of their rebrand. What kind idiots would rebrand a forward looking company with a font that was, by then, almost 18 years old? The subsequent lacklustre response to the redesign didn’t inspire the tidal wave of R&D funding Earth2 had anticipated, and the company went into administration in the summer of 2039, having never invented the time travel which made the release of Galix Mono in 2019 possible. Experts believe that the files sent back in time, although their very sending made it impossible for them to be sent, remained as “time relics” of the future that might have been.

HardTimes has been hard work, designing a handmade typeface must always have the right balance between rough and smooth, specially with this Times-like face. It has the big European glyph-set, so that it can be used all over the continent I come from. I gave this font extensive kerning. P22 Barabajagal is a unique take on the display fat face by way of doodling fun. Somewhat informed by the shapes of an early 1970s film type called Kap Antiqua Bold, this font’s aesthetic is the stuff of boundless energy and light humour, where an uncommon “peak” angle drawing perspective results in sturdy trunks, fat bottom curls, and active ascenders eager for mobility in space. This is the kind of font that makes you wonder whether it was drawn with rulers, protractors and compasses, or just by a mad doodler’s crazy-good free hand. Regardless, Barabajagal easily turns the geometry of modern forms into an exercise in sugar-loaded fun. It’s a very good tool to use in design geared at kids and young adults, such as food and toy packaging, books, animation, cartoons and games. Jazm is an Arabetic typeface design with connected glyphs. Jazm was the earliest, pre-Islamic, script style of the modern Arabic script, before branching into Kufi and Naskh styles. The initial script had a lot less, position-dependent shapes and ligatures, and was not strictly connected. It occasionally included minuscule dots to distinguish identical shapes. This font family design is a modern visualization by the designer of the historical Jazm letter shapes following the guidelines of the Mutamathil Taqlidi type style with one glyph for every basic Arabic Unicode character or letter, as defined in Unicode Standards, and one additional final form glyph for each Arabic letter that can connect with other letters from both sides in traditional cursive Arabic strings. Jazm employs variable x-height values. It includes all required Lam-Alif ligatures and selected marks. Tatweel (or Kashida) glyph is a zero width space. Keying it before any glyph will display that glyph isolated form, if desired. Keying Tatweel before Alif Lam Lam Ha will display the Allah ligature. Jazm typeface family includes both Arabic and Arabic-Indic numerals; all required diacritic marks, in addition to Standard English keyboard punctuations and major currency symbols. Jazm is available in regular, bold, black, and corresponding italic (slated to the left) styles.

The font is made in the direction of Tribal aesthetics. He is restrained, but at the same time very cityistic, has an aggressive mood.

I can’t remember when I had a true lazy morning.. I was a looong time ago, before I had children! Even now, when I’m down with the flu, I can’t stay in bed for too long - it really seems like a waste of time! Lazy Morning is a nice handwritten font. I made it with a Sharpie pen. It comes with all diacritics and double letter ligatures for you to play with.

Invertigo is an experimental font mainly for designers who love to play with type as you will see in my examples.
