Founded on a rigid structure of modernist type, Calypso E has a determined tone without an authoritative tang. It is an updated interpretation of a Neo-grotesque model Egyptian with a hint of Humanist lightness in its forms. Seriously big x-height, square basic form and sturdy serifs create firm text regardless of the weight. This makes Calypso E well suited for various media, from sharp plotter images to low-res television screens. Calypso E includes four suitable body copy styles. Book, Regular, Normal and Medium can be applied according to, for example, the size of text and quality of paper. All styles in the family are equipped with an expanded character set, small caps, case sensitive forms, discretionary ligatures and much more to make even the most elaborate typographic detailing possible.

Eterea is a formal font inspired in the monumental inscriptions of classic Rome, but not strictly sticking to the ancient roman typographic characteristics. Its unique look is the result of mixing diverse typographic styles, but mostly having traces from the 16th century transitional style. It bears a big difference of proportion between upper and lower case, additionally to the upper case having much more ornamental traces. Eterea has four different flavors of capitals which change very slightly in the cursive versions. In the italic versions, the lower case (actually small capitals) changes substantially its characters to make its reading more flowing and is not simply an inclined version of the letters. Eterea is a very expressive font, ideal for titles and short texts of sober and elegant appearance.

ITC Silvermoon was designed by Akira Kobayashi in the style of the advertisements of the 1920s. Art Deco was the artistic movement which marked the years between the two world wars, combining elements of Jugenstil, futurism and east Asian influences. This font carries on in that tradition. The small, high reaching figures with their elegant forms and reserved but distinguishing loops give Silvermoon its unmistakable look. Kobayashi designed this font in two weights, regular and bold. To retain the elegance of the bold weight, the consistent stroke width of the regular weight was exchanged for contrasting strokes. This gives the weight more weight without detracting from its grace. The nostalgic, romantic ITC Silvermoon is best used for headlines and short texts in point sizes of 12 and larger.

While browsing through a sourcebook on historic calligraphy and antique type I came on an interesting sample of a gothic style attributed to the legendary artist Albrecht Durer. I had previously seen fonts based on the peculiar style of lettering Durer used on prints for his signature and some captions, but this style was radically different and much more characteristic of the lettering and early printed types of the 'Northern Renaissance' which Durer was a big part of. Whether it's authentically Durer's work or not is up in the air, but it's a very nice example of early gothic type. We've called the resulting font Albrecht Durer Gothic and it's a very striking face well suited to titles and other contemporary uses where you need something heavy and eye catching.

Franciszek Otto of Poland designed Linotype Notec in 1999. Linotype Notec is a low-tech" (or even "no tech!") typeface. By embracing handwriting's spontaneity, it has gotten as far away from technology as it can. Classified as an "inky"-style script face, for lack of a better term, Linotype Notec's informal design seems immediately artful and full of expression. Its irregularity and unexpectedness enlivens any composition, similar to how jazz or modern dance animate a room. Quite full of "ink," Linotype Notec's "strokes" are written in a sort of short-note-handwriting-style, which a slow-writing, thoughtful humanist might theoretically scribble to himself late at night. Yet Linotype Notec's character still maintains a jolt of energy; try Linotype Notec in small applications, in any size from 12-point on up."

ArchiLogo is not a regular outline-font. It has a stencil element to it and it’s a kind of indirect, because the font is basically the space between the lines. You have to read between the lines, so to speak. It’s like one of the key elements in architecture: the space between the walls. Here’s where type design meets architecture! The new version, ArchiLogo 3.0, has been improved slightly and 13 glyphs have been added to a total of 85 characters. It is still a free font. Because of the popularity of this font I decided to introduce ArchiLogo Pro. Indeed, the pro version of ArchiLogo. Besides the basic Macintosh Character Set the supported languages are Latin 1, Latin 2: Eastern Europe, Turkish, Windows Baltic. It grew to over 300 glyphs.

The first versions of Nimbus Sans have been designed and digitized in the 1980s for the URW SIGNUS sign-making system. Highest precision of all characters (1/100 mm accuracy) as well as spacing and kerning were required because the fonts should be cut in any size in vinyl or other material used for sign-making. During this period three size ranges were created for text (T), the display (D) and poster (P) for small, medium and very large font sizes. In addition, we produced a so-called L-version that was compatible to Adobe’s PostScript version of Helvetica. Nimbus was also the product name of a URW-proprietary renderer for high quality and fast rasterization of outline fonts, a software provided to the developers of PostScript clone RIPs (Hyphen, Harlequin, etc.) back then.

Cumhuriyet means “the form of government in which the nation holds the sovereignty and uses it through deputies elected for certain periods”. The reason why I gave this name to the font is that 2023 is the centennial anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, which was founded by Atatürk. In the 1990s Adobe’s MultipleMaster technology introduced interpolation into font editing programs. Though the obvious use of interpolation was to create an unlimited number of weights for a font, interpolation could also be used to crossbreed two completely different typefaces. IngrianEuroikaH is a hybrid resulting from such crossbreeding of two very different parents. Euroika is a decorative font with high contrast and thin, square serifs while Ingriana is a relaxed, informal typeface. IngrianEuroikaH was constructed in 1995-6; updates in 2012 and 2020 cleaned up many of the remaining oddities that resulted when parts of the parent fonts clashed. The family retains some peculiarities from the method of its construction but is highly readable as text. The IngrianEuroikaH family has six styles: regular, semibold, bold, italic, semibold italic and bold italic.

The original Headhunter shareware font was created in ©1992 by the famous D. Rakowski. It consisted of 63 unique skeletal Glyphs, including Capital A-Z, and a few bone symbols, but lacked lowercase and numerals. He has since abandoned his fonts to pursue other things. (You can download it from FontSquirrel for free.) I've always enjoyed this limited Halloween font, but its incompleteness had to be rectified; thus I took it upon myself to delve slightly into the world of typography, resulting in the birth of HeadhunterTwo. I've slightly reworked his original contribution and "fleshed out" more of the font than necessary. As of this writing, it consists of 777+ Glyphs and passes Underware's compatibility test for Latin Plus (Supporting 219 Latin based languages, which are spoken in 212 countries.)

The purpose of Brutman was to create a typeface that reimagined the incise style for the 21st century. Its roots emerge from the humanistic style, adopting the structures of the roman capitals for the upright version and some features of the chancery style for the italics. On the other side, its contours are forged by the frankness of the brutalist style, which can be seen in the asymmetrical flared terminations, the sharp shoulders and the diagonal cuts that emulate the stress of the broad nib pen. The result is a typeface that combines a sleek character with a historical flair. It conveys a feeling of modernity and sophistication when it comes to shine in big sizes, but on the functional size has sharp shapes that make it perform very well on small ones.

A modern sans serif typeface inspired by the historic geometric’s of the 1920’s, specifically Futura. The design is not a simple pastiche of what went before this is much more than that. It is a close investigation to how Futura inspired other type designs like Avenir and helped push the boundary of what is a modern typeface of its generation. Overlaying perfect geometric shapes careful adjustment is made for each character and each corner to a point of balance between pure mathematics and optical correctness. The result is a distinctively modern geometric font family that is strikingly simple in design yet perfectly pleasing to the readers eye. Impacting and vibrant, Cordelia family draws inspiration from covers of 'cordel literature’, small booklets of popular story-poems that played an essential role on the folk-popular cultural life of Brazil.  Printed in coarse paper, usually with an woodcut illustration and lettering in the front, these booklets were sold on the streets, in marketplaces and town squares, hung in a cord - therefore the name ‘cordel’. The work of these humble printers and poet-singers of northeastern Brazil strongly served as source for acclaimed romances and movies and still inspires writers of all genres, movie makers, painters,​ musicians. And type designers too :) Cordelia doesn’t bring a picture font yet, but ​it ​goes pretty well with Chronic and Manicuore illustrations. It goes well with and without them. It definitely goes well. Arpona Sans is a contemporary sans serif family inspired by the work of Edward Johnston and Eric Gill for London Underground. Unzial typefaces consist of letter forms of the Capitalis Monumentalis and the majescule cursive. The origins of Unizial faces date back to the 5th century. The Neue Hammer Unziale was developed from the Hammer typeface, which was designed by Victor Hammer in 1921, cut by A. Schuricht and appeared with the font foundry Klingspor in 1923. In 1953, American Unizial was expanded to include some new figures, also designed by Hammer, and was rereleased by Klingspor with the name Neue Hammer Unziale. The forms are based on old scripts in books of antiquity and the early Middle Ages and the font is a new variation of a classic. Neue Hammer Unziale has been a favorite for certificates and diplomas and is recommended for headlines and shorter texts in a point size of 12 or larger.

DF Pigtail is the result of a curious marriage of the 'free'-form of writing with the fixed (mono) space for each character of the typewriter typeface. In the early sixties of the last century, typewriter typography became popular as a Fluxus vocabulary. The Fluxus art movement (in fact a Dada like follow up) which encouraged a do it yourself aesthetic, and valued simplicity over complexity and anti commercialism over the conventional market-driven approach. I was educated in the mid seventies when this form of typography was still very popular and was even applied in corporate design. This particular letter has been used by my teacher Jan Begeer to compose his design assignments. Recently I rediscovered this type and was struck by its pigtail similarity and drew it my way.

Designed for ParaType in 1999-2004 by Gennady Fridman. The Pushkin type family is based on the autographs of Alexander Pushkin, the eminent Russian poet (1799-1837). Alternative letters typical for Pushkin's hand are included. There are several variants of Pushkin's hand. Pushkin Script in 2 styles was based on the manuscripts of 1815 and covers Western and Russian character sets. Pushkin One was developed on the basis of thoroughly written documents. Pushkin Two imitates small but nevertheless rather legible hand. Pushkin Three in 2 weights was created on the basis of the autographs distinguished by sprawling hand. Pushkin One, Two and Three series covers just the Russian character set. This set of Russian fonts was amended by Pushkin French font that is based on French writings and covers Western character set.

Technik is a constructed typeface, which is almost strictly designed from basic geometrical elements consisting of mainly circles, also squares and diagonal shapes. Another characteristic is the connection of diagonals, verticals and diagonals, and also of some circle shapes touching each other at one point. It gives this type an original look, and prevents the problematic dark places in some letters. The technical feeling of the type (mainly in uppercase letters) is balanced by the design of lowercase which looks more friendly and fresh. Technik is not designed as a text typeface, it is recommended mainly for display typesetting. You can use it for example in fashion industry or in branding typography, or everywhere where you need the technical feeling of the constructed typefaces to look less cold and more friendly.

Khazar, member of a confederation of Turkic-speaking tribes that in the late 6th century CE established a major commercial empire covering the southeastern section of modern European Russia. Although the origin of the term Khazar and the early history of the Khazar people are obscure, it is fairly certain that the Khazars were originally located in the northern Caucasus region and were part of the western Turkic empire (in Turkistan). The Khazars were in contact with the Persians in the mid-6th century CE, and they aided the Byzantine emperor Heraclius (reigned 610–641) in his campaign against the Persians. Although the Khazar Empire had a secular administrative structure, the administrative staff chose the Jewish religion. The Khazars are the only Turkish state that converted to Judaism.

The concept for Vista began when I sketched a few characters in a notebook while staying in Sumatra on a one month holiday. I wanted to design a typeface for text and display that would retain some of the characteristics of the idiosyncratic shop signs that surrounded me in Sumatra. - Xavier Dupré The result is a comprehensive family spanning six weights, complete with small caps and lively alternate forms, striking a healthy balance between functionality and expressiveness. Named in tribute to the members of the American Typecasting Fellowship, this font is an original expression of Jim Rimmer's left-handed calligraphy. It was designed and cut in 24 p in the early 1980s, then cast as foundry type on Jim's own Thompson typecasting machine. This alphabet exhibits classic semi-italic text tension, with sqaurish minuscules and hybrid renaissance majuscules. Jim's unique sense of restrained but attractive typo-calligraphic creativity puts on quite a show here. Fellowship was updated and remastered for the latest technologies in 2013. It comes with plenty of built-in alternates and ligatures. Its glyphset contains over 420 characters, and supports the majority of Latin-based languges. 20% of this font's revenues will be donated to the GDC Scholarship Fund, supporting higher typography education in Canada.
