Pompeijana is a part of the 1990 collection Type before Gutenberg 2’, which includes twelve contemporary typefaces each representative of a particular era. Pompeijana is Adrian Frutiger’s contribution to the project Type before Gutenberg’. He based the forms of this capital typeface on the writing of the Romans in Pompei. The decorative look of the alphabet is achieved by purely graphic means, placing the emphasis of the top and foot of the letters with heavy horizontals and diamond-shaped serifs. Frutiger completed his typeface with the weight Borders, a font consisting of numerous ornaments true to the style of the alphabet. The ornaments can be combined to form different borders and offer an optimal addition to the elegant Pompeijana. Pompeijana is best combined with modern sans serif typefaces.

The purpose of Brutman was to create a typeface that reimagined the incise style for the 21st century. Its roots emerge from the humanistic style, adopting the structures of the roman capitals for the upright version and some features of the chancery style for the italics. Marathon was originally designed by Rudolf Koch in 1931 for Schriftgiesserei Klingspor. It is a roman with short ascenders and descenders. The serifs are small, but longer at the ends of the arms of E, F and L, M is rather splayed and is without top serifs, like M in other typefeaces designed by Rudolf Koch. The lowercase g has no link and an open tail, again like the g in other Koch types. U has the lower-case design. In the W the middle strokes cross, the lower case w has no middle serif. The figures are short-ranging. Ute Harder from the Fachhochschule Hamburg had redesigned Marathon with the help and supervision of Professor Jovica Veljovic. She has added a book weight to offer more flexibility with this beautiful typeface.

Hello! Inspiration for this beautiful script font I found in “A Source of Solace in Illness” (Trost Bronn der Kranchhen) book, published in the middle of 17th century. There was an entire on the back of the top cover: Joannes Auanger Parochus Sinchingae 1808”. That's why I named my font family Parochus. In the Catholic Church, a parish is a community of the faithful within a particular church, whose pastoral care has been entrusted to a parish priest (Latin: parochus). A vintage rubber stamp alphabet and star printing set had a package header with Art Deco-inspired lettering describing the product. Sold by a company called Elvin [circa late 50's-early 1960s], these Japanese-made sets were one of many distributed by independent toy importers and made in various configurations including [at times] tiny animal stamps. The type design on this particular item was the model for Retro Packaging JNL, available in both regular and oblique versions.

We have tried to keep the spirit of the time -- its sarcastic humor mixed with its objective and frozen realism. The cover of the 1919 sheet music for "While Others are Building Castles in the Air I'll Build A Cottage for Two" had its title hand lettered in a wonderfully eccentric Art Nouveau serif design that typified the era. Also typical of the time was the habit of various songwriters to come up with wordy titles. This particular one checks in at fourteen words. Nonetheless, the sheet music's title inspired Air Castles JNL and its oblique counterpart.

Prushkov is the first typeface that I made. Its name comes from the town I lived in at the time. The design was inspired by both geometric typefaces like Futura, and didone fonts like Bodoni. Its aim (perhaps quite bold) is to blend high contrast with mathematical excellence. Prushkov will work well as a display font, both in uppercase and lowercase. It has a wide array of stylistic alternates for all of the capitals and some lowercase glyphs too.

Today has been a busy day. I managed to take the dog for a walk, go for a run, empty the dishwasher, clean the car, vacuum the entire apartment AND make this font! :) The Busy Day font is all about fun and games: it’s playful, whimsical and legible at the same time. I’ve added an Outline version, Inside and the Regular version. They all work well together or as individual fonts - and they all have multilingual support!

Back when shop window decoration was done with a brush, every window designer had his own style. In this vein the sans serif Altrincham was created. But even as a text font, it has stood the test of time, since it is very easy to read even in smaller point sizes, thanks to its relatively large x-height. This font was inspired by the bricks of my wall, I stared at them all the time thinking, wouldnt be great if fonts live in cooperation with bricks, and then, it came to my mind…A font family that shows naked bricks, like it is RIGHT on the middle of design process. The main features are the informal and wired look that make it worthwhile for bands and informal invitations, flyers, for concerts or infantile designs.

Abalda adds to the number of “bad-taste” alphabets as seen on faded commercial inscriptions painted on neglected old houses. To enhance its warm character, some picturesque discretionary ligatures were added. Knip, in Dutch, means ‘cut’. You can tell by the glyphs that I made this font by cutting out the shapes from black paper, gluing it onto white paper and photographing the result so I could digitalise it! I don’t make too many cut out fonts, as it is a lot of work and it often leads to nothing. Besides that, I depend on the paper supply from my kids and they happened to have black paper this time!

Once upon a time (a.ka. 1984), there was a Goth band who called themselves "Hemingway's Shotgun." As a symbol of his commitment to this band, the bass player acquired a tattoo of a shotgun on his forearm. Unfortunately, this tattoo wasn't very well drawn: the barrel was much too short, and was much thinner at one end than the other. The tattoo rather resembled a small, cordless, rechargeable hand-held vacuum cleaner. Thus, the band "Hemingway's Dustbuster" was born.
