The last couple of years felt like I was living in a bad dream: I witnessed crazy leaders, climate change and now Covid. I usually name my fonts after things that affect me and this one is not different. Dreamworld is a font I made with a cheap marker pen I liberated from my kids’ pencil box (I will put it back, pinky promise…). It is a bit rough, but also very easy to read and distinctive enough to make your work stand out. Of course it comes with extensive language support (let me mention Vietnamese again…) and two sets of alternate glyphs, that cycle as you type.

Découpé Based on a French children’s play from 1906. In a car boot sale André Toet found a funny looking box containing a lot of cut out cardboard figures, in fact it looked a bit like a geometric puzzle! He played around a bit and succeeded to create a workable typeface with it ! The interesting thing about this particular font is, that in fact it’s organized chaos. The 26 letters of the alphabet are a mix between caps and lowercases, so within one word caps and lowercases will be used next to each other. It’s a very useful font for different projects. So I made five rather odd characters for a logo for a friend… Then I thought I'd fill a couple of spare hours expanding it to a single alphabet… And some considerable time later I ended up with a whole font with full punctuation, a bunch of alternates, pretty broad international support and some OpenType features to keep things varied… There are elements of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Lego, circuit boards and Ceefax, Memphis lamps and lab clamps, hieroglyphs, googly eyes and who knows what else… Intricate, insane, highly irregular, but somehow it hangs together… Throw down a few letters nice and big when the fancy takes you…

InduXtrial was developed for a poster project which needed a modern, degenerated look. We actually designed a custom variant of our Savoyard font with some unique characters and a somewhat different look for a number of the characters. We then degenerated the character outlines in Photoshop, ultimately running them through several permutations to produce two different versions of each character for the main font, plus an additional font with stylized initial capitals and customized small caps. Then, just to cap things off we produced a set of drop-cap initials and unique outline characters. The result is just what you need to express the concept of industrial decay in print.

When Patricia Lillie was growing up, she thought the coolest thing in the world would be finding her own name listed in a library catalog.
