The Nixt Font Family is a new font with currently seven styles. As an alternative to Helvetica, Arial, Gill Sans, Futura, & Gotham, Nixt has a similar design aesthetic to those aforementioned in that its design, structure, and feel crosses decades of appeal. From Mid-Century, through the stark '60s, decades of succeeding modern architecture through the turn of the 21st Century, Nixt's glyphs are timeless, clear, ultra-legible in all styles and weights. Grrr is a headstrong modular display typeface with a large amount of alternative glyphs. It consists of eight weights ranging from Thin to Black. A variable font is also available. The typeface is designed on a modular grid and it proudly ignores the rules of optical compensations: the horizontal and vertical strokes have identical thickness, and round and triangular letters have no overshoots at all! All these peculiarities are making the typeface usable at sizes from 21pt and larger in print and approximately from 24px on non-retina screens. Grrr is especially good at extremely large sizes. The typeface includes three stylistic sets with even more bizarre letterforms. These sets activate a cyclic pseudorandom substitution of letters from a range of alternates — the letterforms keep changing as you type! The typeface was designed by Dmitry Goloub and Alexandra Korolkova and released by Paratype in 2019.

Gina is an unbiased humanist sans. The simple skeleton of the characters and the organic strokes are essential features to the design. It is a typeface that looks to the future while keeping an eye on classic letterforms. If we have a closer look, we will notice there is a tendency towards vertical proportions. Ascenders and descenders are long, making for a light texture in small text sizes. The type family includes 8 weights and 8 italics. There is a clear link between styles, both in the structure and shape of the letterforms. The italic counterpart uses a moderate inclination and some letters adopt characteristics of cursive forms. Besides Latin, the character set of Gina includes Cyrillic and essential features for covering current typographic needs. Cal Uncial Rough is a calligraphic font based on sketches written with cane calligraphy pen and ink on coarse-textured paper. Because of the fact that the Uncial don't have lowercase letters, there are small capitals instead of the lowercase. As the Latin version of the Uncial was created from the Greek Uncial script (translating the Bible from Greek into Latin), in addition to the standard Latin graphemes, the font contains the Greek alphabet (and also the Cyrillic letters (Ustav), derived from the Greek Uncial too). Regardless of the stylistic connection, there is a difference between the morphology of related Greek, Latin and Cyrillic letters. Most of the graphemes are based on traditional roman and insular uncial calligraphy. Cal Uncial Rough is suitable for the preparation of calligraphic sketches as well as an application in typography that should bring us closer to historical topics (European literature, quotes, history, film ...).

Snuggles began as a set of hexagons and hour-glass shapes that fit together. Letters were formed from these shapes with effort made to preserve as much as possible the original outlines. The result is two sets of letters that by themselves are awkward and misshapen and that only look good when mixed together. The OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature automatically alternates the sets in computer programs that support this feature. Snuggles-Lower replaces the letters of Snuggles-Regular with lower-case shapes, but without ascenders or descenders, and the results are jarring. Several of these lower-case shapes (D, N, T, W, and Y) are available as OpenType stylistic-set alternatives in the Snuggels-Regular font. Both Snuggels-Regular and Snuggels-Lower have light versions. The Typeface «Mixcoatl» by Elia Salvisberg was developed as a part of a course at the Lucerne School of Design and Art in 2016. Based on the book «The Empire of the Inca», a display-font has been created, which is inspired by the graphic language of the South American Empire of the Incas. At the beginning, only capital letters were designed but there was the desire for a complete typeface – which is why the missing signs were added. The font is based on a grid, so the characters are constructed equivalently and a uniform geometric font arose. The name was adopted from the god of hunting who plays an important role in the mythology of the Aztecs and appears in various forms. The uppercase letters can also be represented and combined in two alternative character-sets, so there are a lot of opportunities to combine uppercase words in different forms.

Opal Pro is a text family designed by Hannes von Döhren in 2008. It gives every text a noble character. The typeface has long ascenders that clearly rise above the capital letters and a low x-height. Opal’s letters sport inktraps at stroke junctions, which on one hand create a cutout feeling and on the other hand strengthens the image in larger point sizes. In total, the letterforms have clear emphasis on their verticals and horizontals; they do not fear the weight on their curves. In addition to the Italic and Bold, the Opal type family includes a Script face, whose letterforms include connections, similar to handwriting. On top of that, the typeface possesses swash letters for italic and script, small caps, many ligatures and borders & ornaments. With a little bit of care, designers will be able to create the finest of traditional, elegant work with this family.

OBO Star is a fat, subtly flared display typeface with a not so subtle groove factor. The letters are based on a square and do not have ascenders or descenders. This way the typeface can be used for horizontal and vertical settings, or mixed like crosswords. There are a few exceptions for certain punctuation and special characters that are half the width for better spacing; and the word space’s width can easily be adjusted through OpenType stylistic sets. Talking about spacing, for strictly horizontal typesetting there is the option to turn on kerning for a number of characters to create a more optimal texture across words and phrases. But that’s all just technical talk. The true character of OBO Star is the funky look, amplified by the wide 1x1 format that creates space for unconventional shapes, mostly pronounced in the letters R, K and G.

Ashemore developed as a result of my visits to Barcelona, Spain and to Germany, followed soon after by a visit to Asheville, North Carolina. Blending the styles of art and architecture from these three areas may seem initially to result in an unusual formula, but the distinct and flamboyant style of Art Nouveau and the Arts and Crafts style combined with the more strict rules of a sans serif transfer well into a beautiful and very usable blend of these individually eccentric forms. The resulting font retains the Art Nouveau and Craftsman style flavors, which shine through the typeface despite its geometric base. One of the font’s defining characteristics is the unique terminators of its C, G and S. This face’s texture and rhythm also moves well in longer texts. These and other features give Ashemore a restrained bohemian vibe that seems particularly appropriate for a coffee house or an art gallery. The Jantze font is a project undertaken by Dan Bailey of Fontosaurus and Michael Jantze, creator of the nationally-syndicated comic strip, The Norm. All their royalties from the font will go to The Lance Armstrong Foundation. For those that have been living under a rock for the last five years, Lance is a professional bike racer that overcame advanced testicular cancer to not only come back to his sport, but to dominate its premiere event, the Tour de France. In climbing to the top of his sport, he has become a legend among cyclists and a beacon of hope for those battling cancer and their families. His foundation provides financial grants to researchers working to improve our odds against the disease, individuals stricken with cancer, and survivors of the disease that are advocates for survivorship issues in their communities. Michael Jantze and Dan Bailey would like you to consider the quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that brought us to this project: "The purpose of life is not to be happy. Fantastic ML is an exuberant Art Nouveau font. It was originally released as “Modern Style” by Fonderie G. Peignot & Fils, Paris, France sometime before 1903. Since “Le style moderne” was the generic French name for Art Nouveau, it is possible that someone decided a less generic name was needed. The typeface became known as Fantastic. Compared to conventional text letters, it is just that. Fantastic has a whimsical, architectural feel. The typeface reminds me of a cross between Hoffmann’s Palais Stoclet in Brussels and Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia church in Barcelona. The letterforms themselves are similar to those by Ludwig von Zumbusch on the cover of “Jugend” in March, 1896, but with the addition of serifs. Fantastic ML is a decorative, all-cap font intended for display use and functions best at 18 points or larger. There are a total of 306 glyphs. In addition to the standard 1252 Western Europe Code Page with character slots up to decimal position 255, there are glyphs for the 1250 Central Europe, the 1252 Turkish and the 1257 Baltic Code Pages. However, some older applications may only be able to access the Western Europe character set (1252). The zip package includes two versions of the font at no extra charge. There is an OTF version which is in Open PS format and a TTF version which is in Open TT format. Use whichever works best for your applications.

Michiana Pro is my new, hand-crafted connecting script! I've been hand lettering cards and envelopes to my wife and family in this type style for years and decided it was time to make a font based on it. I typically start with a single thin stroke for each letter, then build up the weight of the heavy stroke, so there ends up being a lot of charming variations in terms of style and color. The overall finish is rough, yet friendly. Perfect for invitations, place cards, love notes, and with its large x-height, it sets nicely for text. I grew up running around the dunes and beaches along Lake Michigan in northwest Indiana, and I think the shoreline and dune grass has inspired my aesthetic. Michiana Pro takes the name from a small area along the lake between the Indiana and Michigan state lines. There are a lot of nice, modest homes nestled in the duneland forests. Thinking about what it's like back there, it's like having a bowl of steaming hot comfort food. So I hope Michiana Pro feels that way to you too. The 1913 sheet music for "There's A Girl in the Heart of Maryland (with a Heart That Belongs to Me)" may have had no shortage of words in the title - fifteen to be exact, but it also offered some nice hand lettering in the Art Nouveau style. Maryland JNL is a condensed typeface with an unusual twist. The "S" and "G" both have spurs on them, which is reminiscent of the preceding Victorian period and the popular spurred Tuscan alphabets of the time.

Creepy...crumbly...spooky... that's Terror JNL. Originally an experimental outline font made in the early days of Jeff Levine's typographic work, it's been revised and properly spaced for the design professional. The font is based on Ray Larabie's 1990's freeware release Foo - and a hand-traced, weathered-look was applied to the letter shapes. There's no kerning and a limited character set - but Terror JNL is still perfect for any headline that depicts "things that go bump in the night"...

Another offbeat typeface inspired by the lettering on a design by Patrick Owsley for the Chicago Bears. There's nothing more lively than animated text, and Bear Club has that flavor in two ways.
