Inspired in the sweet letters of calligraphy and typography masters of our past; such as Didot, Bodoni and the incredible Herb Lubalin, its aim was to incorporate the decorative accolades from blackletter and copperplate styles of calligraphy into a Modern Roman typeface. Reina reflects sovereignty due to the enveloping atmosphere and the sensation of greatness that can be felt when using it. It has an unique way of standing over paper and screen, being its swashes responsible of an extreme elegance. Similar to what Lian did in his last font Breathe , Reina was designed to be playful yet formal: While none of its alternates are activated it can be useful for short to medium length texts; and when the user chooses to make use of its open-type decorative glyphs, it can be useful for headlines with dazzling results. TECHNICAL Reina is a family with many members. In order to achieve better results when printing, Lian took his time to design the necessary styles: Reina 72 Pro, prepared for display sizes; Reina 36 Pro, for medium sizes; and Reina 12 Pro, the best for text or decorative words in small size. Each of these members have variants inside, which are open-type programmed: The user decides which glyph to alternate, equalizing the amount of decoration wanted. Reina Engraved Pro has the same features than the variants mentioned above. The family also contains variants which were made exclusively for decoration. These are: Reina Words, a set of the most common words used in english, german, italian, french and spanish; Reina Capitals, which consists in a big set of ornamented capitals; and Reina Fleurons, those little friends which always help to embellish our work.

In the world of webfonts, Condensed proportions are key to maximizing your page's premium real estate while keeping your copy clean and catchy as you cut down to the essentials. Soon after the introduction of webfonts, I began to see Insigne's Le Havre used frequently for web headlines, not so much for its Art Deco look as for its more compact proportions. There seemed to be a need for a font that was designed to be used solely for the web's unique constraints. Enter Coegit Sans. Coegit is built specifically for web applications. Its highly Condensed forms range from thin--offering the greatest number of uses--to the attractive, accenting black. Between the most rigid geometric letterforms and the most expressive calligraphy works there are, undoubtedly, countless combinatory possibilities. Ingeo is just one of them. Located very close to a geometric approach it shows, however, a clear willingness to accommodate in its structure the calligraphic traits of our alphabet. In Ingeo geometry grows from the inside, meaning that all its counters are based on geometric shapes. Around them, contours are later defined. The solid mass resulting from that interaction is modulated in specific areas in a way that evokes the way a writing hand finishes a letter and starts the following one. Ingeo seeks to accommodate calligraphic features in its geometric structure without any complexes, in the same way a computer engineer writes a song or a poet admires the orbits of planets and satellites. In this vast and unmapped realm between seemingly opposing concepts is where Ingeo finds its playground. There, that interaction is pushed to its limits and the resulting letterforms are later confronted with typographical conventions to assess whether they survive. Ribbon type. Holy grail of complex-lettering-turned typeface or an elusive Loch Ness monster that is often teased, possibly seen in the wild, but never confirmed? From the amazing lettering artist and author Martina Flor and masterful type designer Neil Summerour, comes the aptly named Ribbons. Ribbons is a sincere and well-conceived approach to providing a reliable solution to ribbon and ribbon-styled type for creative professionals when a lettering artist just isn’t available. Ribbons provides both flat and ‘folded’ options with the Regular and Fold styles, but then raises the bar with separate layer styles that will allow you to easily create the elegant back and forth movements produced with ribbon-style lettering we have all come to appreciate. These layer options are provided in both ‘smooth’ and ‘pleated’ connected styles. Flor and Summerour didn’t stop there. Each typeface was expanded with a number of stylistic alternates, additional swashed and flourished letters, ligatures, and even more in order to provide as many decorative options as possible to the creative. To round out the nine fonts available in the typeface and to ‘put a bow on it’, they’ve added a separate Shadow style and two different color fonts (available exclusively with family purchases).

Ekko is a typeface that gives you tools to be creative. Indeed, it contains more than 1300 alternate glyphs. By combining these alternate glyphs between them, you can design real vertical ligatures. The graphic possibilities are numerous and various. Ekko gives you the opportunity to play, to experiment and to discover, in order to associate the various vertical ligatures between them, in a balanced and harmonious way. Thus, Ekko makes it possible to express the musicality of each word, and to give a specific, original and unique rhythm to each composition. Following the spirit of jazz music: nothing is predefined, but everything remains open. Be creative and enjoy! We recommend that you use Ekko with a line spacing suitable to the font size with a ratio between 0,54 and 0,6. For example, if the font size is 100 pts, the best line spacing will be between 54 and 60 pts. In order to give the best flexibility to Ekko, you can also find, through other alternate glyphs, different widths for each letter (except: M, N, V and W in uppercase). Each letter, lowercase and uppercase combined, is thus available in dimensions: 3x8, 5x8 and 7x8. Ekko also contains 28 horizontal ligatures.

A complete figurative alphabet was published by one Peter Flotner (ca. 1485-1546) in 1534. In Flotner’s alphabet, naked or nearly-naked figures are posed singly or disposed in pairs to form the various letters. Unlike de Grassi’s alphabet, we find only human figures here, no other animals. And unlike Tory’s illustrations, these letters seem an end in themselves, rather than the means of demonstrating a design strategy. Flotner’s alphabet was imitated by other engravers. The letters G and N are reproduced from an alphabet published by one Martin Weygel in Bavaria in 1560. Peter Flötner , c.1485-1546, German medalist and artisan, possibly Swiss by birth. He was active in decorative sculpture, wood carving, and other crafts, making medals and plaques and furnishing designs of classical motifs for silversmiths. He was in Nuremberg by 1522 and did most of his work there, although he made two trips to Italy. Flötner is now regarded as a pioneer of the German Renaissance. His Kunstbuch was published in 1549. In the Metropolitan Museum are five of his bronze plaques illustrating biblical episodes. A stylistical tip : Use this caps with SchneiderBuchDeutsch, as shown in the banners above, to create a perfect historiated layout.

FF Signa is a typically Danish typeface, rooted in architectural lettering rather than book typography. Originally designed for signage—hence the name—FF Signa is now a typographic family with three widths. All weights include italics, small caps, and several styles of figures. Because of the quality of this “vernacular-lettering-into-typeface” conversion, FF Signa received a Danish Design Prize in 2002. FF Signa is radically different from most sans serif text typefaces that were published during the 1990s. It neither belongs in the “humanist sans” category, nor is it on the list of typefaces based on 19th-century grotesques. Its concise letterforms and a minimum of detail produce clear and harmonious word images. Yet its proportions are classical, and the underlying geometry has been subtly adjusted in order to create letterforms which are at once interesting, harmonious, and contemporary. These features make FF Signa pleasant for reading, even at very small sizes. The typeface has developed into a versatile family, with Condensed, Extended, and Correspondence versions. Later on Signa Serif, Stencil variants and a Signa Slab family added even more versatility. The resulting FF Signa type system may be used for corporate identities, brochures, magazines, communication, books, and on-screen publications.

Мир is Mir. The Russian word Мир (Mir) means both World and Peace. The rendezvous of the two terms seems quite unique and utopistic today, but it is comforting to see that it was natural at some time deep down in Russian history. Bits of both meanings were going through my mind while I was designing this typeface. Mir’s character set is multiscript – Latin, Cyrillic and Greek – and extends to many parts of the linguistic world. In fact it covers more than 100 languages. Stylistic consistency between the language systems make typographic border crossings painless even where national borders are still closely guarded. And in regions where mathematics, physics or chemistry are to be expressed, a rich set of OpenType features lets Mir master also these situations. Serious things are best be said in a relaxed, unpretentious way. So Mir doesn’t put on a show. Mir has authority without being authoritarian, it is serious but not stern. It can explain difficult things and stay calm and down to earth at the same time. Mir Medium has another useful feature: It can be freely downloaded and used by anybody anywhere. Around the turn of the twentieth-century, Steel and copper plate engraving was the most sophisticated and expensive method for producing business cards, stationery, and formal announcements. In engraved printing, the image is incised, or engraved into a hard, flat plate. Ink is applied to the plate, and then wiped off; leaving only the ink that is trapped below the surface in the incised areas. When the paper is pressed against the flat plate, the ink is drawn out of these areas and transferred to the paper. The results are twofold: printing which sits above the surface of the paper, and the reproduction very delicate lines and shapes. For business and formal printing, engraved printing was, and is, considered the best. The problem is that not everybody can afford the best. Type foundries, in the early 1900s, figured that if they could produce a typeface for traditional printing, which had appearance of engraving, they would be able to satisfy the needs of those forced to live with modest printing budgets. Engravers faces were born. Fredric Goudy’s Copperplate Gothic was one of the most popular. Plate Gothic is a version of this style updated for digital technology. It has all the charm and charisma as the metal type and yet is perfect for today's needs.

Arabesque is a romantic, ornamental font, in which intertwining, flowing lines and generous loops enhance the beauty of the basic shapes. Arabesque successfully combines legibility with a decorative, sumptuous style. In its European interpretation it was also called "Moresque". The font "Ability" was the origin of Arabesque, however, numerous, subtle changes set it apart. Arabesque, is characterised by a small x-height and relatively large ascenders and descenders (loops). The loops are created out of two or three delicate, intertwined lines that contrast with the much less expansive bowls and shapes of the lowercase letters. The capitals, more complex and composed of intertwined lines, echo the elegance of the loops on the lowercase letters. As a result of these changes "Arabesque" is both more readable, controlled and extravagant than "Ability". Viktorie might easily be mistaken for the handwriting of a note-taker in a hurry: it looks swiftly jotted down. These energetic characters pay little heed to such arbitrary contraints as baseline or x-height -- taken together, they give the effect of casual penmanship that's both curiously legible and inspiringly unleashed. Viktorie has a single, medium-light weight and comes, of course, with a full character set.

With electronics taking over virtually every aspect of manufacturing, packaging and shipping, it's almost difficult to envision a time when wooden crates were marked for identification by using brass stencils. Many of these stencils were hand-cut or manufactured with special punches that perforated the brass sheets with pre-formed letters and numbers. One such stencil was the design model for Marking Stencil JNL.

Carolina is a part of the 1990 program Type before Gutenberg, which included the work of twelve contemporary font designers and represented styles from across the ages. FDI Reklameschrift is a carefully crafted digitization and extension of “Reklameschrift Bombe”, originally released in 1908 at the type foundry Ludwig & Mayer. FDI Reklameschrift covers Western, Eastern and Central European Latin and comes in two versions: Version A is as close as possible to the original design, containing some blackletter-style letterforms. Version B replaces these letterforms to improve legibility and allow a modern use.

Granville, is inspired by traditional British (and transatlantic) shop signage. It's an elaborate confection, drawing on Roman and Blackletter influences and is ideal to give any project an instant Victorian feel. Some vintage 1960s-era packaging for dive gear (masks, swim fins, etc.) manufactured by the Voit division of AMF had various merchandise boxes hand-lettered [with some variation of design] in an interesting sans stencil. Champloo is very unique typeface which combines serif features and brush stroke. Some letters have serif, but some don’t. Serif to be found on left side of stem only. All three fonts - Dropout, Rough Diamond and Thorny, evolved from experimenting with a cubic template devised as the basis for a retro display type series titled ‘Flashback’. I experimented with numerous shapes initially to see which forms lent themselves best to the negative spaces forming the characters. Although many interesting variants are possible within this context, these three were resolved best out of the several options tried.

Our most up-to-date Futura adapted to the new times. Its peculiarity lies in the curved endings of three of its letters (“j”, “l” and “t”), which gives the typeface a more dynamic and modern look, making it easier to visualize on small and low-resolution screens. Quebra is an extend display sans-serif font family with four widths (Extra Condensed, Condensed, Normal and Expanded) and ten weights, italics versions are available. The main strokes contain small breaks simulating modulated variations on the letterforms, these details are more present on large body sizes. All font versions contain Latin and Cyrillic encoding characters and also ligatures, case-sensitive forms, fractions, oldstyle and finally tabular figures.

Little is known of the origin of these decorative Initial Caps. Series 448 at 24 point were a different design from the 36 point on which this digital version is based. In addition to the basic 26 characters, there is a negative version contained in the lower case position and a fill character (for two color caps) option in the number and punctuation key positions.

Corpulent is a display font whose forms are extremely thick, up to the extent of being nearly illegible. In the 1980s, these construction principles were explored to their very limit. So if the lyrics of Eyes Without a Face resonate in your mind, the feet turn numb in super-tight trousers, and you fancy a big hair style, this font is the one for you.
