Gens De Baton is based on a charming lower case alphabet that appeared in the Almanach des Enfants pour 1886 (Paris 1886) under the heading “Amusing Grammar Lessons.” Gens De Baton means simply “Stick People.” The unknown designer turned the bare letter forms into drawings of people for the enjoyment of the children for whom the almanac was intended. The letter forms themselves were based on the French Romain du Roi (King’s Roman), except for the ‘g’ and the ‘j’ -- which were based on Baskerville. The letters ‘w’ and ‘y’ were not included, as they are seldom seen in French. We have left the letters somewhat rough, as they appeared in the Almanach des Enfants , resisting the temptation to clean up all the lines and render them with digital perfection. We have used our HiH Firmin Didot to supply an upper case and auxiliary characters, as Didot was originally a modified version of Romain du Roi. It is interesting to observe the contrast between the polished look of the Didot upper case and the rough, hand-drawn look of the lower case. Purchasers of this font have our permission to use it for the amusement of adults as well as children. We recommend setting Gens De Baton at 24 points or larger.

In Amaboxi the upper-case letters are all placed upon a background inspired by the cardboard boxes that many people in Africa use to carry their possessions. The box takes its shape from the character and conversely, the character is influenced by the shape of the box. All characters except the six "fractions" are included in Amaboxi. It includes all upper and lower case letters as well as all numerals, punctuation, accented and special characters. All characters have been letter-spaced and kerned in terms of the box (not the character). This improves legibility, however, the inter-character spacing has been minimized so that there is often a very slight overlap between the boxes of adjacent characters. This generates an exciting and variable "white space" around the characters.

I really like creating script fonts. Why, I hear you say? Well, creating script fonts lets me be me. I am not trying to create classy, connected fonts for you to write love letters with: there are already too many of those available and quite frankly, I just don't like them. I prefer the messy script fonts - uneven, no real baseline and with a bit of splatter or rough edges for good measure. Daft script is one of these messy script fonts: it was handmade and it comes with two alternates for the lower case glyphs that cycle as you type. This is an all-caps font, so that means you have 4 options per letter! I also love languages (I speak 6), so Daft Script comes with fantastic language support, including Vietnamese and Sami.

In 2006 the art director of Emotion, a women’s psychology magazine, asked me to design a copy typeface for them. Before I actually got the job I started to work on a serif. I wanted it to be feminine but still clear and modern. On one hand there are the floral round elements and on the other hand the angular serifs. In the composition I wanted the two extremes to work together. All the other elements had to be harmonized. The proportions needed to match the magazine’s requirements. The ascenders and descenders are short enough to work in narrow columns but long enough to work in small sizes. As you can imagine, the emotion-job never happened. In copy you should not get heavier than Heavy. Extrabold and Ultrabold work best in display.

Rukou originated as a logo for a fashion designer. The idea was to make a fusion of a geometric typeface with the flavour of childish features. Rukou was inspired by school hand-writing models, but adds very specific and interesting features to it. Rather than focusing on readability, the primary goal was to have a unique type texture. This is the reason why lowercase is disconnected. The disconnected letters opened the possibility to create the special shapes for individual letters. The typefaces consist of two different styles inside one font. You can choose to set your titles in uppercase, or lowercase/titlecase. As each style has a slightly different texture, there is the opportunity to combine them in interesting ways. The uppercase can even be set in small paragraphs

Maribor is a slab serif font with nice shapes, they are both soft and angular. It is perceived calmly and with a twist. Maribor means "Mara`s pinery". The energy of the Universe, reflecting the modification, renewal and change for the better is called Mara; Ancient wise ancestors called it so. Today it is known as the goddess Mara in the Vedic worldview of the Slavic-Aryan peoples. Maribor is a multilingual font, it contains characters for 104 Latin languages and all Slavic, including all capitals for them. There are all major currency signs, including the ruble and the Euro. Aramus is a new serif font in my continuing objective of designing book fonts that I can really use. In many ways, Aramus is a very different direction for me. It comes from a scan of an old display face that has been radically modified to a much smaller x-height than I have been using lately, plus taller ascenders. Many of the characters needed a lot of correction to bring them into my taste. In general, I have decided that many of my fonts create a type color that is too dense. Aramus is an attempt to get away from that look. Although Amitale has been a very successful book family and excellent to work with, I find I still need something more open with a lighter color. Aramus is the first look at the new direction. The original hand-cut serifs vary a lot, different for almost every character. This gives a little looseness and helps the lightness I am looking for. It will be interesting to see where this all goes. This is a normal serif for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the set for 2009. I didn't bother with the CE accents (though I can add them upon request. They will be in the final new book family). There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Like all of my fonts, there are: caps, lowercase, small caps, proportional lining figures, proportional oldstyle figures, & small cap figures, plus numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors, and a complete set of ordinals 1st through infinity. Americain is a retro-style font, which was based on a single headline from a thirties advertisement. The letters are all caps, but there's a little difference between 'upper' and 'lower' case. Americain is ideal for headlines and posters.

There is just one subtle difference between these two fonts. The A version has a straight lowercase 'e'; the B version has an angled lowercase 'e'.
