One of the most unusual sets of antique stencils spotted for sale online comprises a set of twenty-four classic logos of early 20th Century automobile companies. For whatever purpose that is now lost to time, these stencils represented the logos of many of America's finest auto manufacturers; most now just historical memories. The logos were painstakingly redrawn, maintaining the distinctive look of the hand made cutting, although it was an exacting process - some of the images were taken at an angle, and a bit of artistic license had to be used as a compensatory factor. It is to be noted that any and all of the logos presented in this font are the intellectual property of the companies, successors or assignees that may still hold the rights to these symbols. No endorsements by such corporate entities are either expressed or implied. Ablati is the commercial release of the font designed during the production of our new font design book, “Practical Font Design”. It is a new serif font in my continuing objective of designing book fonts that I can really use. In many ways, Ablati is a very different direction for me. Designed to produce gaphics to use in the font design book, I was forced to really reconsider many of my working methods to make them work for outside readership. Like all designers, my internal design processes can get really sloppy. The book helped me clean up my act. Taking my inspiration from one of my favorite fonts of all time {though I've never really been able to use it much}, Romic, by Colin at Letraset, I decided to design a unilateral serif font. In most ways, this is a normal serif for me in that it has caps, lowercase, small caps with the appropriate figures for each case. This font has all the OpenType features in the new set developed for the book. There are several ligatures for your fun and enjoyment: bb gg ff fi fl ffi ffl ffy fj ft tt ty Wh Th and more. Several alternative forms, a dozen ornaments, and more. Like all of my fonts, there are: caps, lowercase, small caps, proportional lining figures, proportional oldstyle figures, & small cap figures, plus numerators, denominators, superiors, inferiors, and a complete set of ordinals 1st through infinity. Say hello to another of my hot and trendy scripts, Hot Script! I got the inspiration for this one in the world of sign painters. My neighbourhood, and more specifically the avenue were I live, is very well known for its ''parrillas'': For those who don't know what this means, well, it may be better to live the experience rather than reading these lines. Villa Urquiza is full of restaurants with an argentinian flavour, with a ''gauchezco'' feel. Here you can taste some of the best ''asados'' in the entire world. Ok, this made me hungry, let's go back to type: These amazing venues still mantain genuine elements from the past, and try to preserve the beauty of the handcrafted. Parrillas of Buenos Aires have all their walls, windows and doors lettered with chalk or paint. I've always wanted to make a font out of that, and Hot Script is my first attempt. I believe the results are great! Hot Script follows some rules of the flat brush (see terminals, and tails especially in caps) but its contrast of thicks and thins was manually altered to make the font better for a wider range of uses. Although the sexy curves and versatility of Hot seemed to be enough, I decided to spice it a little more by creating some layers for it: Hot Script Shine Solo or Hot Script Shades Solo combined with Hot Script will give outstanding results. (Look for them combined in the posters above and dare to deny it!) Go make your project more savory! This font is Hot, hot, hot!
