Tabac Slab was created by combining several contradictory influences, the result of which is a universal linear font. The combination of brisk serifs and refined calligraphic details in the structure of the characters serves to create an original concept that mixes influences from both book and advertising graphics. Serifs aid legibility in long texts, while small drawn details realise their full potential in sizes of twenty-four points and larger. The basis for our Egyptienne was Tabac Sans, with which Slab logically forms a harmonic duo. The addition of bracket-less serifs caused the typeface to thicken and become solidly anchored on the lines, giving a firm answer to all typographers who like to complain about the slight exuberance of grotesque fonts.

Mido is designed with the aim to recreate all the power of the early 19h century slab serifs, but without their geometric monotony. The ambition was to make a humanist slab serif that would function both in smaller sizes, as headlines, and poster size. A modern neo-grotesque typeface. Having grown up in Sheffield and been completely immersed in the work of The Designers Republic I became very drawn to their treatment of Helvetica, especially the close tracking of the letter space. This visual investigation led me to the study of the font Hass Unica, a so called improvement to Helvetica. In order not to replicate and become a clone of Unica I redrew all the characters from scratch improving optical appearance, developing subtle corrections and reshaping individual letterforms. The result is a remixed neo-grotesque font that has strong general optical balance with great rhythm under close tracking. The source is named after the capital of planet Mongo, a futuristic city with art decó influences in their buildings. Liquorice Twist is a light-hearted fun font which developed from some hand drawn text designed to accompany and be integrated with some ‘Zen Doodling’ art that someone had drawn. It is very informal and unconventional, with the glyphs created using unusual and loose ‘rules’. The font has a set of stylistic alternates with equal height lower-case letters. It also has the option of alternate initial capitals and alternate ending lower case letters accessible via contextual alternates. Bodoni Classic Deco Two, like the original Bodoni Classic Deco, breaks all rules. Giambattista Bodoni himself would probably hate me for doing it; he was a real purist. The whole idea of the Bodoni typeface is no embellishments and here I go and decorate those nice clear letters. Shame on me! But I find this is a very nice and useful typeface for all kinds of cards and certificates. So I just did it for all of you out there that are not born purists, and want a little embellishment to their lives. And to make things worse, I added a small caps cut. I even decorated the numbers.
