While designing a logotype for a client, she described herself as "loud and colorful." Thinking about some eras in typefaces that portrayed this idea, I instantly thought of the "Roaring 20s" and the Prohibition era where the cinema is starting to take off and the Italian mafia are running the bars. (Which is coincidental because my client has family connections to Al Capone.) One of the most iconic typefaces designed for these times was Broadway by Morris Fuller Benton in 1925. This typeface was the zeitgeist of Broadway, the big city, theater, and cinema, which can now be seen in use almost everywhere an old family run cinema is located. Using the heavy influences of the thick and thin contrast of this typeface, Maritote brings the charm of Broadway into the 21st century.

Burford is a font family that I sketched while traveling through Europe. I was mesmerized by all the unique typography that was showcased throughout the five countries I visited. Inspired by all that I had seen, I found myself spending 4-5 hours per day in Amsterdam’s Vondel Park drawing characters. Once back in the states I digitalized Burford, deciding it would make for a beautiful layer-based font. Burford Pro package comes with all 18 layering fonts including 5 base layers, 3 top layers, 5 bottom layers and 2 sets of graphic elements. They are strategically made to build on top of each other, creating a cohesive and easy to use layer-based family. It’s not often a vintage cartoon can inspire a type design, but such is the case when the name “Daffy Duck” is hand lettered on a mailbox in the 1946 Warner Brothers cartoon “The Great Piggy Bank Robbery” (famously being a send-up of the popular Dick Tracy comic strip by Chester Gould). Mail Route JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

It's not a new idea, but it's always a fun one... a typeface comprised of 35mm film frames. Film Crew JNL is Jeff Levine's version, utilizing his Koehler Sans JNL as the lettering inside the frames. The lesser and greater keys have solid black frames for end caps or word spacing, and there's an alternate pair of frames with clear centers on the brace keys.

Veneribe -the Venerable face- is an experiment in what many today might call 'grunge', though we at Greater Albion would probably prefer to talk of rustic (or if we're feeling really old-fashioned rustick) charm. It's a derivative of our Clementhorpe family, and aims to combine a battered antique look with the charm of that decorative Roman family. Regular and oblique forms are offered.

Blacker mono was developed out of a brief by Isabella Ahmadzadeh, by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini and Francesco Canovaro for the editorial project "A beautiful mistake" by OFFF Tlv in 2022. It is a monospaced version of our typeface Blacker, bringing its "evil serif" aesthetics in the realm of typewriter and coding typefaces. In designing these, usually the letterforms are deformed to better fill the space, but in Blacker Mono only the serifs are modified to balance letters, while letter skeletons are kept consistent with the ones of the original Blacker family. This gives the typeface an uneven, unexpected rhythm, underlined by the unusual choice of providing three optical sizes and some extreme display weights - both uncommon choices in monospaced fonts. The resulting typefamily is thought for use in editorial situations where readability must be married by a strong personality, and is complemented by all the wide array of Open Type features that are present in all Blacker variants, from positional numerals to small case letters and alternates.
