Katastrofe is danish for … well, catastrophe - you may have guessed that! This font was almost a catastrophe to make! I cut out all the letters in a cardboard, and went outside to spray the letters with a spraycan. Everything went smooth as planned, but suddenly the wind started to blow and the papers started to fly away! Luckily I found some stones I used to make the papers stay in place. Lucky for me - otherwise it would have been a catastrophe! Seconds after finishing this font project, it started to rain…I just avoided a catastrophe! But is this font really a catastrophe, or does it just mimic punk/spray/grunge/riot? The Vtg Stencil fonts from astype are based on real world stencils from several countries. In the case of French stencils the challenge was special, because of the varieties of different widths and weights between the stencil sets – so I made France No. 1, No. 3 and No. 5. Fungis is a somewhat �brother� of Fungia. These two typefaces were conceived simultaneously as an experiment on designing typeface based on natural shapes. In both cases it was mushrooms. Of course the main theme of these typefaces is not mushrooms itself (it was just a start point) but the interaction between form and counterform. In spite of unquestioning individuality the font has some associations with wood typefaces from wild west, typefaces from circus posters of 19th century and even slight feeling of gothic. The font can be useful in different cases: posters, titles, book covers, billboards, street signs, magazine spreads and all situations that demand expressive typography.

I have upgraded my existing font software and also bought new font software to play around with. It takes some time getting used to working with it; the upgraded software feels similar to what I am used to, but handles things differently and the new software is intuitive, but comes with its own language and ways of doing things. I spend most days reading the handbooks and watching online tutorials, but I did manage to create a font. Steamed is a hand drawn all caps display font that comes with a whole bunch of accented glyphs (even Vietnamese) to play around with.

Epoca, designed in 2010, is a classic linear sans for text and display. It has economical proportions, a neutral appearance and a discreet elegance. While sturdy and robust, it is nonetheless a strong workhorse. The slightly angular shape of the round elements results in a quiet flow of the line which enables fatigue-proof reading even with large amounts of text. Epoca comes in eight styles and in OpenType format. All weights contain small caps, standard ligatures, proportional lining figures, tabular lining figures, proportional old style figures, lining old style figures, matching currency symbols, fraction- and scientific numerals.

Bonning is a Roman face full of the spirit of the 1920s. It was inspired by a (real)estate agent's For Sale board seen in an old sepia photograph from that era and combines visual flair and period with good clear legibility. A range of Opentype features including alternate forms, old style numbers and fractions, as well as discretionary and standard ligatures are included. Three weights are offered, including a shadowed black form are offered, all in a choice of three widths. It's the ideal face for signage with a period feel, as well as posters, headings and feature paragraphs.

Calypso I (Italian) draws its inspiration from type founders' plentiful show-off-letters, which were typical on title pages and lithographs in the early 19th century. It borrows luscious details from these but inherits a stiff modern backbone from its parent, Calypso E (Egyptian). Within the Calypso type family all fonts share the same dimensions and work together consistently. Calypso I supports many languages and includes, for example, four sets of basic numerals, circled numbers, alternative characters, case sensitive forms and dingbats. Give it a go on drop caps and headlines or even set short paragraphs with it. It loves colour and effects.

Fast Food is a font based on the former (and now revived) logo of a hamburger chain. It has that look of the 1970s & 1980s, yet also has a futuristic, alienesque, sci-fi look about it. Nubian was one of the first typefaces ever designed by G-Type and is an elegantly proportioned, crisply modern sans serif family. Comprising five weights from Thin to Bold with true matching italics, each font also includes two sets of figures (lining and old-style numerals) and an extended European character set. Nubian has a noticeably open, semi extended appearance providing very even 'colour' and excellent legibility when set as text. The contemporary letterforms work well at all sizes in print and on screen making Nubian a great choice across all media. The family has been updated to OpenType with extended language coverage.

Oh yeah! Gorda is a huge, bold and all-caps typeface. It's rounded style makes sure it's nice and friendly, even though it can be used in (very) large sizes. With Gorda you can produce a powerful and contemporary style. The smaller stroke width of the symbols and punctuation marks makes sure legibility is not an issue, as is often the case with fat type. Gorda is suitable for all sorts of uses, especially posters, headlines, artwork and logos. Use it to draw attention, in a quirky and distinctive way. In Fehlian I blended features of my earlier Arthur and Lindau releases. Fehlian is a sturdy yet sophisticated Art Deco style Roman semi-serif. It is an excellent choice for titlings, headlines, labels, shopfronts and any other display usage which needs to be typographically furnished with something special. Moreover, besides the plain Fehlian font you have the option of yet another two wonderfully decorated versions which lend even more beauty to your designs. Note that Fehlian is a capitals-only product. It has no lowercase but the uppercase is completed for multilingual usage and supports every Euro-Latin language.

Tioga is a highly legible typeface designed specifically to display clearly on low-resolution displays. With superior readability even at small sizes, Tioga is an ideal typeface for developers of set-top boxes and digital televisions. Tioga is metrically compatible with Tiresias, a widely-used typeface designed for digital TV applications and adopted by the DVB and MHP standards. Tioga was fine-tuned to be more readable and aesthetically pleasing.
