An early-1960s Canadian magazine ad for a brand of birth control pills featured the least likely spokesperson – Annette Funicello (“starring in “Beach Blanket Bingo” and “How to Stuff A Wild Bikini”). The text was hand lettered in an Art Deco-inspired sans serif type design. Tarpon Spring JNL is available in both regular and oblique versions.

Sweet Lemon started off as something completely different, but I screwed up and closed one the the glyphs by accident. I kind of liked it, so I made three distinct fonts, each one with its own Italic style. In short: when a font is called Sweet Lemon, you should use it for Lemonade packaging. Or whatever.

Conversation Hearts are inspired by the sweethearts and conversation hearts that can be found all over the US and Britain, but not in Germany. A source of endless fun and surprise. As a typographer to me they are also a surprising document of written communication. Most people complain that nowadays the inscriptions are not as sweet as they used to be. While they used to held romantic and promising inscriptions like “Be True” “Sweet Talk”, today they carry “Tweet me” “Ur Hot” and “Party Girl”. So i took this as a motivation to work with conversation sweetheart on a conceptial inspirational and typographical level. The obvious: every letter pressed on the keyboard brings out a conversation heart that starts with the letter - i.e. L = Loverboy, H = Heartless but what to write? Since i didn't want to reproduce the old “Fax me” and “Email me” I had to come up with something new. Something with a personal relation and of course something that I Love - what else could i write in the shape of the heart? So I tried to access my upper subconsciousness and looked for two words for every letter in the alphabet. One for the capital letter pressed and one word for the lowercase letter. Resulting in a Kurt Schwitters worthy assemblage of vocables "Post-office" “Internship” “Zebra” “Answers” etc. It is not easy to read a text set in Conversation Hearts but easier as a text set in Zapf-Dingbats. To sparkle the visual appearance uppercase letters are filled hearts with “carved” inscription, while lowercase letters are an outlined heart with written inscription. Conversations Hearts is a part of the Light Hearted Font Collection that is inspired by a recording of Jean Baudrillard with the title, "Die Macht der Verführung" (The Power of Seduction) from 2006. Further inspiration came from the article, "The shape of the heart: I'm all yours". The heart represents sacred and secular love: a bloodless sacrifice. by British writer Louisa Young printed in EYE magazine (#43) London, 2002.

I'm not sure where the inspiration for Tirade originally came from, but it looks like a good rant, hence the name.

The Revla family just keeps expanding! This is Revla Slab. It has the same exuberant charm as its siblings ( Revla Sans and Revla Serif ) with a touch more chunk. OpenType contextual alternates make for text that is lively and bouncy, without the monotony of obviously repeating letterforms. It’s shamelessly fun, but pretty serious at the same time. The range of weights can be used to maintain an even colour across different sizes - use lighter weights for bigger sizes and vice versa. Tipperary was designed by Steve Matteson and named for a favorite 'single track' bike trail, Tipperary is a monoline Humanist Sans Serif typeface. You might call this a Bodoni Ornate font that Bodoni never made, close examination of this old 1800s font and it's plain to see that the top half of the letters is very Bodoni in appearance. Apple Pie is a revival of and old font from the William Hagar Type Foundry, which I've been able to date back to 1850. The William Hagar type specimen book from the 1850s only shows this font as a caps only typeface plus numbers, later in 1869 MacKellar Smiths and Jordan offered this font with a lowercase. Over a two year period I was able to collect enough letters to begin production of this old decorative font, the type specimen books only showed a small line of text for this font so I would search through old documents on eBay and also shows relating to Ephemera. I could have easily developed a new font based on a very small sample of letters but I wanted to wait and find as many letters as possible, I was unable to find the Q, X, Z and ten lowercase letters so those missing letters are of my own design. New to this font is the addition of an all Caps Greek character set, accented letters for Eastern Central and Western European countries is also within this font. Fill fonts are available for the Apple Pie font, you will need an application that works in layers such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator or Corel Graphics in order to use the Fill fonts. Some Fill fonts may be used as stand alone fonts but the versions for Apple Pie look best when layered behind the parent or main Apple Pie fonts. Be sure to check out the left and right hands located on the Less Than and Greater Than keys.

Favarotta was a small settlement on the medieval times. in the Gulf of Castellammare near Palermo, Sicily. Favarotta font is inspired on the style of writing based on Carolingian models, which continued to be used for handwritten liturgical works in Italy. The style show close affinities with the Italian printed books of the period. It combines Roman cursive writing ideas with some of the Celtic innovations in insular writing, including four guide lines, with strokes that flow smoothly from the ascending and descending. Tsotsi, a recent addition to the Scholtz Fonts range, is highly legible, strong, African and contemporary in design. It is a sans serif font, however, the gently splayed terminals to the strokes subtly hint at a serif. It has been designed to be easy on the eye and readable at all font sizes and can be used either as a body (text) font or in headings and larger scale design. The font has an irreverent insouciance which is suggested by the verticals which all vary from true perpendicular by a few degrees, and by the slightly top-heavy nature of all characters - hence the name "Tsotsi" -- a rascal who is very sure of himself (and a little big-headed). Above all, however, the Tsotsi (both the font and the person) has an appealingly cheeky and mischievous style. It includes characters for English, French, Italian, German, and Portugese. all upper and lower case letters, all special characters as well as all numerals and punctuation. The numerals are mono-spaced so that they will line up correctly in columns of figures. The letters of the alphabet are correctly kerned so that they appear correctly in text.

The drawings, for what is now Triplex Italic, were done in Iowa City in 1985 by John Downer. The italic was originally conceived as a companion for another typeface being drawn at the same time called Arcatext, which (like Triplex) could be described as a "humanist sans-serif" having simplified character shapes constructed mostly of geometric parts. At one stage, a certain customer was interested in Arcatext but wanted a different italic drawn for it, so the plan for the italic took another direction and the idea for this one was dropped. Five years later, Emigre decided to commission the abandoned italic as a digital typeface in three weights as companions to the Triplex Sans and Serif families designed by Zuzana Licko in early 1990. The ascenders and descenders have been shortened to match those of Triplex and the new capitals embody more of the features that distinguish the lower case, but otherwise the digital version closely follows the original drawings. It took me 12 years to bring this extensive font family to completion. A lot has been changed, transformed, peeled and developed in all those years. This was the golden age of Copperplate, lasting up until the arrival of die neue Typografie and monospaced grotesques in the 1960s. Then the typeface almost completely disappeared. It made a partial comeback with the advent of the personal computer; digitizations of varying quality appeared, and one version even became a standard font in Adobe programs. This may have played a role in Copperplate later being used in DIY projects and amateur designs, which harmed its reputation. Copperplate New has been created to revive the faded glory of the original design. Formally, the new typeface expands the existing weight and proportional extremes. The slight serifs are reduced even further, making the typeface sans-like at smaller point sizes and improving readability. In contrast, at large point sizes it retains all of its original character. Decorative inline & shadow styles have been added and both have been created in all five proportions, making it easy to adapt the typesetting to the format you need. Despite these changes and innovations, Copperplate New remains true to Goudy’s original design and represents a snazzy way to evoke a golden era in American culture. Vinetters has letters on the alternating leaves of a vine. It is monospaced and uses the OpenType contextual alternatives (calt) feature to alternate leaves as the vine snakes its way across the page, putting leaves with the base down between leaves with the base up. The family has two styles, one with transparent leaves and the other with solid leaves, and these two styles can be used in layers to add color. The family has a large set of accented characters but omits some symbols that are used primarily in technical text. Spaces between words can be left blank or filled with connecting vine using the brackets, trademark-infinity, doubledagger-summation, radical-approximatelyequal, or fi-fl characters. The characters on the leaves are derived from the typeface IngrianaCasual.
