The term “Surf Bum” was a slang phrase used to casually describe anyone who spent as much of their time as possible at the beach catching waves in the 1960s. The Revell Company was a well-established maker of plastic model kits such as military airplanes, monsters from Universal horror films and other such items when it hooked up with custom car designer Ed “Big Daddy” Roth to develop a model kit line capitalizing on the surfing fad that was sweeping the West Coast at the time. A number of crazy-looking hot rods, dune buggies and what-have-you were turned out, and one such kit (“Surfite”, with Figure) featured a futuristic one-person dune buggy. It was on the box for the model that the words “with Figure” appear in a casual, brush design type face. Those few letters were the inspiration for creating a new retro type face entitled Surf Bum JNL, which is available in both regular and oblique versions.

My eldest son Sam always wanted to visit Japan and he has been saving up for a ticket for years now. We should have traveled there this year, but due to the pandemic, that was impossible. We’re now trying to go next year. Sam and I did make some kind of itinerary and I told him how we were going to get around, as I have been to Japan many times. I told him about the Shinkansen trains, the cute Tram in Nagasaki and the immense subway system in Tokyo. One of the lines in Tokyo is the so-called Yamanote Circle Line, which I have used on numerous occasions. A new font name was born and it stuck to this particular font! Subway Circle is a 100% handmade font. It is rounded, slightly slanted and comes with a sunny disposition. I am sure that, when you use it, you will find your 生きがい… ;-)

Mr Robot is a typeface designed for our next book for children. We wanted to have a colorful, dimensional and edgy looking letters for headlines. There are three ways to use Mr Robot. You can align three text frames with same text but with different colors and font styles (Regular, Shadow 1 or Shadow 3 and Shadow 2) or with ALLinONE font style but select a different OpenType Stylistic Sets (set 1 is like Shadow 1, set 2 like Shadow 2 and set 3 like Shadow 3). This works great but we don’t like to have unnecessary text frames in our layouts so we added a very cool Contextual Alternates OpenType feature. You just need Mr Robot ALLinONE style and only one text frame. First make sure that Contextual Alternates is off. Type every character three times (RRROOOBBBOOOTTT), select colors for each letter (first letter of every three is a side shadow, second is bottom shadow and third is a front of the dimensional letter). When everything is set just turn Contextual Alternates back on. Styles and alignment will be set automatically. Check out the Users Manual for a visual explanation. For web fonts it is better (at least for now) to use the first method (with font styles) as the OpenType features are not supported in older browsers.

Glitzy is a caps-only font with extreme contrast. It was inspired by Art Deco typefaces, especially Broadway by Morris Fuller Benton, but Glitzy is not an attempt to reproduce that typeface. The letters on the lower-case keys differ slightly from the letters on the upper-case keys. The large black interiors invite decoration and the family includes four faces with interior decoration. These four faces with interior decoration can be used in layers with the base font to add color to lettering. (OakPark is a another attempt to do high-contrast lettering with an Art Deco feel.)

Steradian is an exploration of the geometric genre and although it has a geometric base, the widths between letters are not much different across the weights. That is due to the process, in which the proportions of the heavier weights paved the way for the lighter ones. It also has a series of details that make Steradian stand out and gives it a special touch. Some of its main features are the double-story ‘a’, its closed apertures and some of the capitals have a distinct personality (such as the G and Q). In thinking about a way to express the character of this script, it occurred to me that the splitting of the main downstrokes in the caps is almost like when knife cuts into butter. Picture a butter knife that slices into butter, slowly wedging the cut wider so that when it is pulled back, the remaining shape would resemble the main downstroke of any capital letter. The lowercase characters have an almost roundhand-like character but with a slightly more formal presence. Available in Postscript, Truetype and Opentype for both Mac and Windows, Beurre is ideal for Menu's, Invitations and pretty much anywhere you need a reasonably strong, but friendly legible script. Zebra was originally designed by Karlgeorg Hoefer in 1965 for the Stempel foundry in Germany. This unique font was designed as a two-color script face and is now available digitally for the first time. The P22/IHOF release presents six separate fonts based on the original painted drawings and Stempel proofs.

An ongoing movie review column known as the "Critic's Forum" (such as was found in the May 23, 1936 issue of The Film Daily) had a simple Art Deco monoline hand lettering of the column's name. Grafista is an extrapolation on what fonts are used for: in spite of the possibility to use it for setting text, Grafista strives when used as a texture library, the same way that one would set up tiles. Thus, Grafista was built as two different things compiled in the same font: the letterforms (for setting text) and the texture library. Both of the sets are monospaced (with every glyph having the same width), but the letterforms are half of the texture tiles' width. On the tech side, the letterforms are 500/1000 UPMs, while the tiles are 1000/1000 UPMs.

CA Mechano is quite what the name suggests – A mechanical typeface. Pretty straight forward and all-caps as long as you don’t activate the stylistic set "disorder". You will see what happens then: a lot of fun for the typographic eye. A more consumable distraction is offered by the other stylistic set. You will dis­cover peacefully rounded letters in the neighborhood of strictly mechanically constructed glyphs.

In the December, 1947 issue of Modern Screen magazine, a feature article showcased actress Deborah Kerr with the title “Imported”. The typography used for the headline of the article was a hand lettered, extra-bold, sans serif stencil design. This lettering became the inspiration for Imported Goods JNL, which is now available in both regular and oblique versions.

Geulwoll is a Korean word for letters. HU Geulwoll is a handwritten font that conveys a calm feeling by creating a lyrical and old atmosphere. The public" concept is part of the name. Res Publica is Latin for "public matters". The word republic has the same origin. Res Publica was released in 1992.

This rugged rascal is based on at old ATF “original” design called “Hearst” (although Frederic Goudy claimed it was a pirated version of one of his designs). Its commanding, rough-hewn character makes it suitable for headlines, but its large x-height makes it practical for subheads as well. Available in roman and italic versions. Both versions of this font include the complete Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets.

What exactly is an exit punch? I have no clue! :) I named the font after a wordplay with random words, and somehow I found the name suited the font perfect.
