The Janson font was based on the matrices made for the typeface in the 17th century. It originated from the Dutch typeface designer Anton Janson and was cut by Nicholas Kis. The strong main strokes and fine hair strokes were influenced by the art of copper engraving. In 1983, Prof. Horst Heiderhoff led the expansion of the Janson into a font family with various stroke contrasts and gave it the name Janson Text.

Tobias Sergel was the greatest Swedish sculptor and draughtsman of the 18th century. At home we have a wood stove. Last year, I bought a whole bunch of tree trunks, which I cut up with a chainsaw and then chopped with my Swedish axe. In Holland we have a saying that firewood keeps you warm three times: when you cut the tree, when you chop the wood and when you burn it in the stove. Our stove is rather small, so it is not exactly a blazing furnace, but I liked the name because it seems to fit this font. Blazing Furnace was made with ink and a brush. It is a bit messy and rough, but it comes with multilingual support and a nice set of alternates for the lower case letters.

Marian Churchland was born in Canada in 1982, and was raised on a strict diet of fine literature and epic fantasy video games. She has a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (English Literature and Visual Arts) from the University of British Columbia, and has been doing professional illustration work, including book covers and magazine articles, since she was 17. For some time, Eric de Berranger had wanted to create a distressed typeface design - one that gave the appearance of antique printing and showed signs of wear, yet was still highly readable. He was busy designing a new face called Maxime, when an idea struck: I realized that I could use these lettershapes as the basis for my antique typeface," he says. The two faces ended up being designed in tandem. While ITC Oldbook clearly captures the flavor of aged, uneven and imperfect printing, it also meets de Berranger's goal of being exceptionally readable in text sizes. Beginning with well-drawn characters was the key, and these were carefully modeled into the distressed forms. "The process was more difficult than I originally thought," says de Berranger. "The antique letters had to be tested and modified several times to work correctly." ITC Oldbook elegantly simulates antique printing in both text and display sizes. And while stroke weights are uneven and curves are irregular, the design has remarkably even color when set in blocks of text copy. Orenji is the Japanese word for Orange: it is a phonetic translation of the English word. I was actually looking for a certain shade of orange (the color), when I stumbled upon this fun word. I already toyed with the idea of creating a font loosely based on my son Sam's handwriting and I figured Orenji would be a good name for it. Orenji is a fun, cute and extravagant font. It has some uniquely shaped glyphs, comes with a giggle and a hug and more diacritics than you can throw a banana at.

Briller is a super-wide display sans that covers 6 weights, from delicate Thin on one side to chunky Ultra on the other end. Briller tabular figures (via the OT feature) and most of figure related glyphs (such as monetary symbols) are the same width throughout the weights, leaving fun possibilities in pairing them up in contrast while retaining that sense of tabular order. Vododeo JNL is directly named for the free-form sheet music title lettering from Jack Yellen and Milton Ager's "Vo-Do-De-O". The term itself was a catchphrase made popular during the era known as the "Roaring 20s". Yellen and Ager were responsible for such hits as "Ain't She Sweet" (1927) and "Happy Days Are Here Again" (1930) along with countless others. Koala was originally designed in 1999 by Eric de Berranger with an individual, independent character. A distinguishing characteristic of this sans serif font is its marked stroke contrast, typical of Modern Face fonts. The open, airy forms are reminiscent of ancient Roman capitals. The lower case letters display traits similar to those often seen on posters and in advertisements of the 1930s and 1940s. The lively Koala is particularly good for shorter texts and headlines in larger point sizes and combines well with fonts with little stroke contrast.

Wood Sans Narrow JNL is based on examples of an extra condensed Hamilton Wood Type. Kampen is a minimal, modular, monospaced font. There are two variants, each available in two styles.
