HWT Etta is a fun display typeface that has two styles: East and West! Its two variations ensure you have maximum wood type swagger in every display size that you might want. This fresh design takes a cue from the wild design experimentation that was happening in the heyday of mid 19th Century wood type—but filtered through 1960s photo-type sensibilities and served up for today’s design needs. Etta West is a decorative inline style and the Etta East is a whimsical reverse contrast style. They live together harmoniously, with their own specific flavors. Practically speaking, both styles are intended for display use, so use them big and use them proudly! Set your XXL size titles in West and your L to XL size types in East. As different as they might look at first, both fonts share a common DNA—Don’t be shy about using them together. The HWT Etta font is part of the Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum’s Type Legacy Project. In keeping with the project, Etta is named after Etta Shove Hamilton, who was J.E. Hamilton’s wife and the company’s first bookkeeper.

Isabelle is the closest thing to a metal type revival Jim Rimmer ever did. The original metal face was designed and cut in late 1930s Germany, but its propspects were cut short by the arrival of the war. This was one of Jim's favourite faces, most likely because of the refined art deco elements that reminded him of his youthful enthusiasm about everything press-related, and the face's intricately thought balance between calligraphy and typography. Not to mention one of the most beautiful italics ever made. Jim's early 2000s digitization included mathematical corrections to the original metal cut, as well as some functional improvements for digital use. In 2013, during the remastering of the entire Rimmer collection, Isabelle underwent a considerable rethinking/expansion and was rechristened Isabelle Pro. The new revisions include small caps, ligatures, seven types of figures, automatic fractions, extended Latin language support, stylistic alternates that include lowercase serif angle options in the roman and looped ascenders/descenders in the italic, and plenty of extra OpenType features like caps-to-small-caps substitution, case-sensitive positioning, ordinals, and extended class-based kerning. Now each of the Isabelle Pro fonts includes over 680 glyphs. 20% of this font's revenues will be donated to the Canada Type Scholarship Fund, supporting higher typography education in Canada.

Sommet Slab Round is the latest in the Sommet series, designed as a slab serif companion to Sommet Rounded. The typeface features slightly wider counters to accommodate the serifs and this more generous whitespace allows the typeface to display well on-screen and as a webfont. Rounded serifs give the face more warmth than the original Sommet Slab, which is strong, rigid and technical. Sommet Slab Rounded’s serifs are not just blunted, but slightly obliqued, giving the face dynamic forward momentum. This geometric typeface is based on bold and clean rounded rectangles. It’s soft and friendly look lends itself to a number of applications. It would be a fine choice for tech company logotypes, magazine headlines and can be used for body copy. The typeface family also includes some alternate titling forms. These alternates can be accessed by activating OpenType features and style sets. In order to use these OpenType features, you will need a program with advanced typography capabilities such as the Adobe Suite or Quark. These alternates include a group of simplified forms that can be accessed under the swash alternates. Sommet Slab is just the latest in the versatile Sommet superfamily from insigne. A set of signs designed by Andrey Belonogov. It includes representation of gestures used by left- and right-handed people in different countries to enhance the power of speaking. The typeface (under the name Handmade) was awarded a diploma at the ATypI International Type Design Contest “Bukva:raz!”, 2001. Released by ParaType in 2008.

Designed to be the ultimate grunge font, Kryptonite and Kryptonite Bizarro are nearly illegible at small sizes, but can't be touched at large sizes. The Kryptonite family has a limited character set and is named for the element capable of killing Superman (with all due respect). Not for the faint of heart.

In the 1921 work Letters and Lettering by Frank Chouteau Brown, these letterforms were offered as examples of typical medieval English fare. The font is all caps, but there are variant letterforms in all the lowercase positions. Both versions of the font include 1252 Latin, 1250 CE (with localization for Romanian and Moldovan).

Mellin takes us to the simple designs of the Streamline era. It is based on heavy vertical strokes with a slight taper. Mellin is offered in a solid form as well as an open outline face, and is ideally suited for posters that aim at the elegant functionality of the 40s and 50s.

Milwaukee, is a geometric typeface with an embellished-like touch. Designed in 2011, in capital English & Greek characters, including numerals, and basic punctuation marks, as well as CE characters. It was initially inspired by Byzantine and Japanese typography and later from the cityscape of Milwaukee, thus its name. This typeface comes in four weights and is suggested for logos, short titles, social media marketing, book covers, posters, labels and more applications you will choose to go with.

Ana is a chromatic typeface consisting of 26 uppercase Latin characters, inspired by arabesque patterns from the nineteenth century. Programmed to enable users to easily create multicolored drop caps and initials, this decorative display typeface features a different ornament for every letterform, which fits perfectly with its glyph shape. This ornament is usually more luxurious on the left side of the letter, while on the right it is scarce, so that the body text can be placed close to the initial. These initials are valuable for use in large sizes, like posters, magazines, packaging design, fairy tales, and so on. The final forms of the initials consist of 5 parts which can be individually colored. There are 5 font files named Ana Layer A, Ana Layer B, and so on. A font user can manually create a multicolored initial with these font files, if there is no possibility to use the Contextual Alternates option. To do that, it is necessary to make 5 layers in the page layout software. Then, the corresponding character should be placed on each layer, so that Ana Layer A is on the lowest layer and Ana Layer E is on the highest one. Note that the glyph shapes are contained in the lower case positions. In contrast, the font file named Ana is programmed, so it is possible to create a multicolored initial with the Contextual Alternates command. There is no need for additional layers, everything happens on a single layer. First, the Contextual Alternates command (usually under OpenType menu) should be disabled. Then, using lower case key, type the desired character 5 times and apply color to them. Select them all and turn on the Contextual Alternates. Also, the font file Ana comes with a set of ‘black’ initials that can be used just like any other non-color typeface. The ornamental versions are contained in the uppercase positions, while the letters without the ornaments are in the lower case. With the font file Ana Monochrome one can only get the monochrome initials. Ornamental letters are contained in the upper case positions, while the letterforms without the ornaments are in the lower case.

Can noise be a beautiful sound? Well, I guess...because the other day when I was playing the good old Bleach album by Nirvana (which I consider lovely grunge music!) my wife yelled "Could you stop that noise?!" - and I answered "What noise?!" - ha-ha-ha! Anyway, I finished this font while listening to that particular lovely noise, and I knew that this crunchy, grungy, handmade and full of contextual alternates and multilingual font had to be named something with the word "noise" in it!

The Stempel foundry in Germany produced this version of Garamond in 1925 as a replica of a typeface of a French punchcutter Claude Garamond (middle of the 16th century). This design has an angular incised appearance which is unlike other Garamond types. It is also slightly heavier in weight, and is highly readable as a text face. Well suited for a wide range of applications and treatments. Original Garamond is the Bitstream version of Stempel Garamond. Cyrillic version was developed for ParaType in 2002 by Gayaneh Bagdasaryan..

In Dutch, a Mandarijn is a Tangerine. I found out that it is called a Mandarin in Australia as well! I really like Mandarins, so I thought I’d give them their well-deserved place in the spotlights by naming a font after them. The whispers part - well, that’s just because it sounded good. In 1864, a new edition of ‘Labèrnia dictionary’ was published. The book is commonly known under this name as a homage to the author. The typeface used in this publication has been taken as the main reference for the design of a new type family. Labernia is a didone design that includes several variations in width, weight, and contrast. Labernia is a stylish typeface, which pushes its design features to the limit. The high-contrast strokes—seen in most modern typefaces—give a delicate softness to the titling cuts of Labernia. Meanwhile, the characters in the condensed version have a very compact body so they create a highly expressive text. In the italic letterforms, the long terminals aim to connect the characters without touching. Blue Sugar is a grunge font which has one letter-shape in white set within a different grunge letter-shape in black. The Regular and Dirty versions have their characters in conventionally upright positions; and there are 3 varieties with the characters in various states of disorder and at slightly varied angles and sizes - called Twirled and Whirled. The Mixed Caps version introduces no new characters, but combines straight capitals and jumbled capitals in the same font, for convenience, in which Upper Case A-Z displays conventional upright Capitals, and lower case a-z displays jumbled Capitals. The package contains both OTF and TTF versions - install either OTF or TTF, not both versions of a font on the same machine.

Latvian designer and educator Gustav Grinbergs created Stencil Moonlight as an attempt to slightly lighten up the stencil type scene. Designed by Hans Samuelson in 2023. With two weights and many variations Klip Klop offers a large set of characters for playful lettering. The flavouring is strong avant garde and the build is strict geometrical with even stroke thickness throughout. One unusual feature is that the bottom and top horizontal strokes are centered on the baseline and capital height. This renders the same optical size between the thin and the medium but different actual heights and baselines. Use it for Headlines or signage in any medium! Klip Klop!

Architype Konstrukt is a collection of avant-garde typefaces deriving mainly from the work of artists/designers of the inter-war years, whose ideals have helped to shape the design philosophies of the modernist movement in Europe. Due to their experimental nature character sets may be limited. Architype Van Doesburg derives from the 1919 experimental geometric alphabet by Theo van Doesburg, whose work was heavily influenced by De Stijl theories, specifically rectangularity. The typeface has been constructed on the same 5 x 5 grid, and is limited by his ‘single alphabet’ theory.

Here's another gem from perennial Speedball penmaster Ross F. George, originally called Split Caps. George's original design has been enhanced with the addition of lowercase characters, borrowed from another of his alphabets, and adapted to the style of the caps. This font derives its name from one of the catchphrases of the estimable Stooge-in-Chief, whose signature hairdo can be found in place of the Section mark. Both versions of the font include complete Latin 1252, Central European 1250 and Turkish 1524 character sets, with localization for Moldovan, Romanian and Turkish.

Giambattista Bodoni of Parma designed and cut his typefaces circa 1790. The Bodoni types were the first of the Modern type designs in which hairlines contrast sharply with bolder stems, and serifs are unbracketed. The Bauer Bodoni font family derives from a cutting for metal type in 1926, retaining many of the original features. As with all versions of this typeface, the contrast between thick and thin strokes of Bauer Bodoni should be taken into consideration as the thin strokes can appear to fade out under certain printing processes.

This is not a stencil font. At least it isn't intended to be. The foundation for the entire font comes from a progression in experimental rules on stroke intersections (pinching, separating) while maintaining proportions and elements from a more conventional typeface. More latitude was given to the unicase "Fat" face but still retains the overall flavor of the original. The end result is a typeface that's hard to categorize as any one personality. Most likely a good candidate for logo, display, or headline work, the applications for Encoder are yet undeciphered.
