This is another grunge style hand drawn font I created with a poster marker. Including all Latin language extensions, Cyrillic and Japanese Hiragana and Katakana. It's an all caps font. I drew a couple versions of each letter then picked one of them for lower and one for uppercase so they can be combined for better flow and more even more natural look.

Bold, rounded and super cool. Those are the attributes of my latest font “Vinyle”, french for vinyl. In this epoque where all fields of Design are giving a lot of importance and attention to Typography and Lettering, I felt it was my duty to contribute with something that could really stand alone and ‘say something else’ that just words to be read. I've found that lately in the world, regarding a finished piece of design, the role of Typography (and of letters in general) went from being secondary, (like a minor player or a supporting actor) to the most important one. People are starting to understand the beauty of a well-done letter: they want their storefronts with unique scripts, they want to drink coffee surrounded by lettered blackboards, they want to buy books with astonishing covers with swashes ‘por doquier’. I'm more than happy to be alive in a present where even the most unimaginable friends of mine, (who couldn't spot differences between comic sans and helvetica before) are now conscious of the importance of a letter, or let’s say: Of the ‘voice’ of Typography. With Vinyle I tried to make a font with power. Following the nowadays trend of, let me say, “the vintage sans renaissance”. This time I put my brushes and nibs aside and experimented with something new. It wasn't easy, if you will pardon, for me to see swashes all over the place withouth the classic calligraphic ‘thick and thins’, but with after some weeks of work I started to love them. Like I already showed you in other creations (1) let me finish with the phrase: GEOMETRY IS SEXY! TIPS Vinyle has a lot of attitude, it shouts “here I am!” it really can ‘design an entire piece’ for you with just a word or two: It was designed with a 10 degree slant on purpose so the user may rotate it (like on the posters) that amount of degrees in order to see better results. The 1930s produced many distinctive and stylish autos. One was the Auburn, and this typeface was suggested by a period poster for the make. Another fine car of the time gives the font its name, because “it’s a Duesie!” Both versions of this font contain the Unicode 1252 Latin and Unicode 1250 Central European character sets, with localization for Romanian and Moldovan.

Linotype Rowena is part of the Take Type Library, selected from the contestants of Linotype’s International Digital Type Design Contests of 1994 and 1997. This text font was designed by the Latvian artist Gustavs A. Grinbergs and is available in six weights, from light to black. The font has a light stroke contrast and its basic forms are the circle, rectangle and triangle, making it a constructed face. The impression of the font on the reader is elegant and cool, very like poster fonts of the 1930s. Linotype Rowena is suitable for headlines and shorter texts with point sizes 12 and larger.

A friend once jokingly told me that what I really do is mine extinct arts for parts to use in modern things, like going to the scrapyard to pick up bumpers, quarter-panels and dashboards off of Datsuns and Ponies to build a shiny new Ferrari. I still kind of grin at that, but I certainly do spend a lot of time looking at old things and imagining ways they would work today. This shiny new Ferrari here is called Bibliophile, and it contains scrap heap parts from various pages by Louis Prang, the Prussian-American printer and publisher who inspired my Prangs fonts. This is my second engagement with the late 19th century man, and it’s quite a bit more intricate than just an italic Didone with a connected lowercase. Bibliophile marries Round Hand calligraphy with Italian capitals, two styles not often relayed in the same alphabet, but work together beautifully when combined well. When you combine them well with a few long-practised tricks of the trade, then mix in a few trusted features from my previous work over the years, you get my usual crazy exuberance, like 17 different shapes for the d, 21 different forms for the y, endings, beginnings, swashes, ornaments, and so on. It’s no secret that I can get carried away when I’m so consumed by an idea. — Bibliophile comes in 2 weights, each of them with over 900 glyphs covering all the latin languages. Bibliophile also comes with a bold weight, something I’m always reluctant to do with something as adventurous and complex as the structure of this historical mashup. But I couldn’t chase away the idea of increasing the contrast while maintaining the hairlines in a lowercase this narrow. Part of it was the curiosity about the outcome, and part was the sheer challenge of it. I think it turned out OK. Words set in either weight will show delicateness and elegance, and the more time you spend inside the font and micro-manage the setting, the more ways you will find to magnify either. Bibliophile can be as muted or luxurious as you want it to be. This is the kind of alphabet that fits well in fashion marketing and high-end packaging, from the very subdued to the super-exquisite. Paralucent is versatile all-purpose modern sans. Available in seven weights, from Thin to Heavy, and in two widths each with corresponding italics, it avoids some of the more eccentric calligraphic quirks of Akzidenz or Helvetica or the cool precision of Univers for an elegant, functional, yet warm design. There are two additions to the core 28-weight family: a three-weight stencil set, and a four weight text family. The text weights have been adjusted for use at small point sizes, and feature more open character shapes, looser inter-letter spacing for improved readability, and lining numerals for use in listings and tables. Several core ideas inform Paralucent’s design. Prime attention has given to the negative space between characters, giving a more even “colour”, especially in text. For example, the J, L and T have shorter arms than comparable sans typefaces, while the M and W are wider. The A has a lower bar, opening up the interior counter. An unusually high lower-case x-height again helps to give a more even colour and improve legibility. Care has been taken to rationalise repeated elements like the tails on lower-case letters, or the Q and the “ear” of the g. Typographic design solutions that are consistent across all these features add more stylistic cohesion. ‘Ink traps’ are exaggerated incisions used to open up a letter's narrower internal angles, which can become clogged with ink, especially in small point sizes. Now largely redundant due to the high quality of modern print, they are still sometimes used as a stylistic quirk or design feature. Now that digital fonts are often reversed or outlined, or enlarged to enormous sizes, these can also lead to unexpected or obtrusive results. Paralucent takes these inevitable digital manipulations into account, and adds optical corrections without resort to ink traps. The family has been picked up by many UK and US publishers, featuring heavily in magazines like Loaded, Heat and TV Quick, as well as high-end coffee-table photography books and gallery websites. HeyPumkin is a letterbat font designed for use in the late autumn, when the leaves are falling and the harvest is underway. October 31 is an especially good time to use it. The upper- and lower-case letters are almost identical. If you want a version of this face without the pumpkins, try Ingone. Buried in the font is another set of letters on pumpkins. They are on unicode characters in the 2400 block, circled digits and letters. These characters can also be accessed using the OpenType stylistic sets feature. This is Floral Decay, your seasonal autumn font with jaded, weathered, and earthy contours of rustic lettering. This font is unique because, in order to create it, I had to answer some tricky questions: What makes autumn… autumn? Capturing the essence of the other seasons into your letters comes easier. For instance, in order to suggest summer, you only need to draw a few flowers. How about autumn? You could garnish your letters with a few grapes, you might think, but it would only result in a grape-themed font. The notion that is more directly associated with autumn is the image of falling and withering leaves, which brought me to the second question. How exactly are you going to create something beautiful out of a somewhat morbid premise, like wilted leaves? Well, I soon realized that by creating a handwritten font and preserving the right imperfections, you can actually portray collateral beauty. In this context, asymmetry is important because it suggests decay. Further on, the design concept required the letters to come very close together, so that every typed word can be regarded as a floral arrangement. How close together, though? As much as possible without confusing one with the other, risking a lack of legibility. Therefore, in contrast with the demo version of this font, this actual version provides the ideal kerning.

Boot Camp JNL has the same roots as Jeff Levine's Condensed Stencil JNL, as they were both modeled from a set of vintage brass interlocking stencils made by the Stafford Manufacturing Company. The previous font was drawn from limited examples of the stencils seen in an online photograph, so a number of the basic characters had to be improvised. Since then, a nearly complete set was obtained and the alphabet and numerals are truer to the original design. Additionally, both Regular and Oblique versions of Boot Camp JNL are available.

Squalo, the genesis The idea of this project called Squalo popped into my mind while I was working with excitement on some sketches. I was chasing after a strong typographical character, something that for me has to be crystallized in form which is always legible and functional. The concept The concept of Squalo arises from the observation of an athlete’s body: you notice that even if most are lean, they are also strong, cut and chiselled. The sport they play molds and modify their bodies.  Just think, for instance, on a professional swimmer: during the competition every single muscle, tendon, tissue, cell is working to swim faster. Every single part is there to give strength and speed like in a “squalo” (shark in italian). Not as an eel, nor as a mermaid, nor as a hake. Just like a shark. If you take a quick look, you will notice that the width of the typeface is slightly more condensed than that of a standard sans serif. We designed Squalo this way specifically to assist and strengthen your concepts through stylized typography. We designed the joins and terminals (tip ends) of the characters A, V, W, Z, v, w, z, to create a feeling of “tension”, reinforcing the concept of shark, danger, caution, as well explicit, intentional movement. Pure strength. We wanted to recall the exact moment of the start of the 100 meters race: when the sprinter initially spreads all of his powerful energy. The italic version, starting with the former two typographical concepts of width and tension, emphasizes them. First of all, we compressed the characters 10 percent more, and slanted it 10 degrees to the right. With this movement I intended to convey the gorgeous feeling of tension in power and rapidity. The typeface has 9 weights, from “hair” to “black”, and two versions, “regular” and “italic”.  All 18 fonts include small caps, unicase, tabular and oldstyle numbers, numerators and denominators, and much more. Squalo is an ideal typeface that I recommend for use in marketing campaigns, design of packaging, magazines, branding for tv programs, films, book texts, editorial, publications, logos, corporate projects, web texts, and graphic design in motion.
