My goal for Harfang was to create a serif typeface that would be easy to read at text sizes, while having a strong personality at larger sizes. The initial design had a purely rounded style, but with each development pass I introduced some angularity. The final result is a typeface that is easy to read in long texts, advertising copy, annual reports and the like; but one that also provides a crisp and stylish appeal in more prominent display settings. I choose the name Harfang (Harfang des neiges — Snowy Owl or Great White Owl) because after my first typeface, Migration, I wanted something with a thematic relation. On a more personal level, Harfang is the official bird of Québec, a province with a long winter and a wonderful, white landscape, and the place I call home. —André Simard

Alternates and catchwords: - Capital letters are different than small (look to the preview). - Several small letters have alternates (look to the preview). - For the catchwords type the word (for sample 'with'), select that and turn on 'Discretionary Ligatures' on the 'OpenType' tab. Or paste it from 'Glyphs' tab in any place on your text. This in Illustrator. In Photoshop 'Discretionary Ligatures' you can find in the menu Type - OpenType.

I present Hatran as the last font of 2023. The Hatran script was used in what is now northern Iraq to write Hatran Aramaic, a Middle Aramaic dialect that was spoken in the region of Hatra and Assur in northeastern Mesopotamia from about the 3rd Century BC to the 3rd Century AD. Hatran Aramaic is also known as Aramaic of Hatra or Ashurian (Leššānā Assūrāyā \ ܠܫܢܐ ܐܣܘܪܝܐ), and first appeared in writing in 98 BC. The script is also known as the Hatran Aramaic script or Ashurian script. It appears mainly in texts found in the ruins of Hatra. There are also some texts in Hatran Aramaic from Assur and other places. It was discovered in 1912 by archaeologtists working in Hatra, which is near to the villages of Al-Hadar (الحضر) in the Nineveh Governorate (محافظة نينوى) of Iraq.

This late 19th century design conjures up early 20th century Dutch DeStijl lettering with a mostly strict adherence to right angles and minimal stroke modulation. Geometric began its life as a metal typeface from the Central Type Foundry, circa 1884. Soon after, this design was officially licensed to Morgans & Wilcox and was shown in their 1890 catalog in Regular, Light and Condensed Light variations. After acquiring Morgans & Wilcox, Hamilton Manufacturing offered Geometric Light Face Condensed as their own No 3020 and the Geometric Light Face as No 3021. HWT Geometric has been expanded digitally to include a Regular Condensed version. A heavier wood type specimen was found from an unknown manufacturer and digitized as it was found, resulting in the HWT Geometric Shopworn and Shopworn Inked variations. These digital versions all include a full Western and Central European character set of over 380 glyphs.

Originally released in 2008, Churchward Newstype is a workhorse text family, designed by the late Joseph Churchward back in the early 2000’s. If you’re familiar with Churchward’s typefaces, you might know that he always brought a little something quirky to his designs. Churchward Newstype doesn’t disappoint. The exaggerated concave serifs make a statement that is subtle, yet gives the typeface a unique flavor. The proportions and scale of the letters lend themselves to very good legibility in text applications, and the Bold weights are strong enough for headlines. Churchward Newstype is good for text copy, and headlines, and at giant point sizes, great for adding emphasis to posters! The Churchward Newstype family has four weights, Light to Bold, with 13 degree slanted italics. Each font has a second set of tabular figures.
