This time the font's name is meaningless. Maduki doesn't mean 'cool' in Swahili, nor does it mean 'cup cake' in Sranantongo. It is just a nice name. Maduki is a playful font, created with one of my 2 year old son's marker pens (the 'no stain, wash-out' variety), a couple of cups of coffee and a whole bunch of 'speculaas' cookies. Now you're wondering what speculaas is, right? I'll tell you later - in a couple of fonts... Anyway, there's not much meaningful to say about Maduki font. On occasion, one type design's influence can result in a completely different end result. Take the hand lettering found on a 1920s piece of sheet music for the song "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". One above all, the Victorian typography that has been rediscovered and widely re-studied during the 70s. Today, thanks to the technology innovation in digital typography fields, Biscotti is certainly an interesting subject which expresses an appassionate and nostalgic homage to a vintage font, seen from the perspective of a technical inspiration. Biscotti is composed of two styles: the “default” and the alternative one. The first is of course more conservative and formal, while the alternative formally chooses a change of the diagonal lines into curves, so it creates a much more friendlier reading. This forward-looking typeface is well suited for a variety of projects: understated yet spirited, technical yet welcoming. It has a modernist appeal, while reminiscent of XIXth Century woodblock lettering. Designed by Daniel Robichaud, Absentia Slab is available in ten weights with matching italics and two variable fonts.

Facit is a contemporary sans serif text face. It is designed to be a highly legible and flexible font that does not draw the attention to itself. Instead of being original by itself it is the result of a careful examination of ancient as well as modern formal concepts. “It is by definition impossible to design an un-conventional typeface. Type is pure convention, this is why we can read each other’s written words”, says its designer Tim Ahrens. However, rather than generating an average, existing principles were consciously combined into a unique design solution: The word ‘Facit’, in its German version, means ‘conclusion’. The fonts are provided in OpenType format. Each font contains 720 glyphs. Technically, they follow the Adobe Pro fonts and provide the same glyph set and OpenType functionality. OpenType features include ligatures, true small capitals, superiors, inferiors, numerators and denominators. Every font contains old style and lining figures, both in a proportional and a tabular design. For some letters there alternate characters.

Destra is a contemporary, narrow serif family, suitable to save space and legible at small sizes. Its shapes are the result of a mix of styles. "Destra" is the Portuguese word for "right hand". The font has several OT features - fractions, old style-, lining-, tabular numbers, superiors/inferiors, alternative glyphs, dozens of ligatures (standard + discretionary) and an exclusive feature to convert Arabic to Roman numerals up to 1000 (download the “OT Features Guide” pdf). Moreover, Destra has an impeccable technical finish, with a systematic review of nodes, curves, spacing and internal data, eliminating the possibility of errors when using it. The family consists of 8 styles, 4 weights - Regular, Medium, Bold and Black, plus their respective italic versions. The fonts are available in OpenType PS/TT and have extended character set to support CE, Baltic, Turkish as well as Western European languages.
